there have been many cases over the years EB that kids that are tipped to be drafted have in fact never been picked up by and AFL club. Also once you have been drafted doesnt necessarily mean that you will play AFL, many players that have been picked up have failed to play at that level.
Right you are

Well he did play some junior footy at Euroa didnt he penis breath. I think you would also fine that once he was 16 he wouldnt have played to much junior footy for wodonga as he would have been playing for the bushrangers.
Get those floaties out again mate, becasue once again your out of your depth you knob jockey.
Thats funny mate because he was playin there in under 15's so i think you need to get your facts right he didnt get drafted from euroa. so go f u c k yourself footyboss euroa are s h i t

coming from you mate, i saw some of the posts that you made in the GVFL thread mate, and you might have to go back to the drawing board, and to stop causing s h i t in this thread at the same time coz there really isnt a need to ruin what was decent thread untill blokes started posting the same old crap about echuca and euroa and s h i t like what you posted, maybe start talking about footy properly fella's?
sorry boys but the last time i looked hilton was playing 1's and was to old for the under 18's and i think i clicked on the right link and this is the under 18's thred, so if we have all finished having a go at each other can we get back to talking under 18's footy, with finals just around the corner i think that we might be able to find something to talk about other than who loves hilton the most. But just in my opinion i rekon that euroa can claim hilton as there own if he played there as a junior they have every right to claim him, and if they have to go back 10 years to claim a well known player then ive got no problems with that. cheers fellas:thumbsu:

Relax knackers....the reason it came up was because someone was talking about Euroa juniors being $hit and someone pointed out the fact they've produced a few players to play AFL.
And last time I checked Euroa and Echuca were in the GV and the thread related to juniors so this is the most appropriate thread.
Give us something else to discuss if you don't like it....

Being a little facetious there Axel but we'll let it go. There's been no real "bitching" going on, Junkie's post pretty much sums it up.
How about some posters get back to writing some stuff on the Under 18's competition then instead of the negative, snide posts.
I see Echuca are currently third versus Rochester sixth. Surely that would be a good battle between the two arch rivals if the ladder ends that way after the home and away rounds. Would Rochy be any chance to get over Echuca?
Heard on the grape vine of late that the confidence over at deakin with the shepp bear is well and truely up and going after some early season stumbles. Been informed that they are already firming themselves as shoe ins for the flag, can anyone confirm or deny this for me? if it is true, to all side that play them in the finals i hope u spank that crap out of them.

Roo#32 ive heard the exact same thing from a player in last years premiership. The bears boys think they have got it in the bag, but it wouldnt be unlike Shep boys to always be confident.

Whats the rule with blokes like Matty Chapman coming back to play finals in the 3rds?

Pretty Sure its just 3 games so they should have every player from bushies and seniors in for finals unfortunately. Chappy should be ready to go anyway after quitting the bushrangers.

what happened with the bushies? Was he annoyed about not getting a regular game? I must say it's a supprise that he wasn't a regular after making a few appearances last year.
How's his year been with Shepp?

Not sure exactly what happened but there has been 5 players to leave, so obviously there is some tension in the camp. Im sure u know all about footballers and their ego's.
He is coming off the back of BOG in the grand final but im not sure how he has gone this season, anyone else seen much of Chapman from bears?

Let it go mate. The last 6 posts have not been about Euroa or Echuca, yet you bring them up again. I'm pretty sure this thread isn't exclusively about one or two teams and people are free to talk about whichever team they like.
If you don't want to talk about a particular team, just ignore it.
Talk all you like about Ky & Shepp, or any other team. No one's stopping you.

i think the shepp boyz are counting their chickens b4 they hatch.... the top two or three sides are very even and ky have only lost one game which they played very poorly in.... with the likes of josh pell, weardo, tom pryde, frank besim, ryan jones, jungle martin and plenty of other quality players i think they will be very hard to beat with no weakness' through out their line up i also think benella are a much betta side than shepp and can play some extremely good footy when their key midfielders get going

I would say the addition of 1 or 2 star players would have a huge impact to a side come finals in thirds? I'm thinking of a guy like Matty Chapman who has had a fair amount of exposure at senior level this year.... coming back and playing finals footy at a much lower standard you'd expect he might dominate some games and win them off his own boot for the bears. Particularly after playing so well in the big games last year.
Are there any other players of note who can potential impact the finals like a Chapman?

What are your thoughts on that rule where they have to play three thirds games, i dont like the rule because they are representing there club and family by playin bushies or seniors so y not let them play. i heard chapman wasnt preformin at bushies and thought he would focus on shepp and thats his choice so good luck mate
yeh i think if they are playing 1's at their club then they should be ale to play finals when or if their 1's dont make it they should be able to come back down even if they havent played a game of 3rds. and the same goes for bushies to i think the boys should be allowed to come back and play for their home clubs with out having to play the required amount of games. cheers
From what i have been told from a very good source is that the Ky boys are already planning their after party, if thats the case i hope Karma comes at them.... Finals is a very different type of game, pressure and desperation comes into play, how a player reacts to pressure as well. You will find alot of players at u/18 level havnt ever played on a big stage match before infront of a big crowd which 9 times out of 10 alters how a player will preform. Also usually if a side thinks they have the flag in the bag they exit early becuase they cruise along.
I would not doubt shepp at all, they include in their finals squad the likes of Matt Kelly, Matt Chapman, Luke Sofi, Chris Cullinan. Four players who can undoubtly win a game off their boot not to say the least of players like Dan McIntyre and Matt Campbell who have also played seniors during the year. Shepp's youngsters haven proven to be a force in the senior ranks as well and have contributed very highly to win games for the Shepp Bears senior side.
Kyabram certainly have class but i dont think they will have enough class for Shepp but what they do have is a great mateship, they play together so well and so far above the rest of the league which will be a big factor if they want to win this year. Rochy at full strength i think will be the under dog and could cause a few upsets.
One thing alot of people forget is where the Grand Final is played off at, Deakin Reserve, SHEPPARTON...home of the Bears, now thats a massive advantage!

Nah man i know some of the Ky boys there not talking anything up. Spec after what happened last year they wouldnt be game to. Your right though bears will certainly be a force with some really good players, all it took was a few gun players and they carved up last year. Rochy could be very good aswell. What about echuca with a full side are they a chance? I think the field is certainly very close this year. No team would want to be getting cocky.

I dont think that shepp have as big of an advantage on deakin reserve as people think. Every side that is planning to play in september (or october as it is this year) works on being able to play the ground. it is similar to the MCG. Every one plays there during the season and by the time finals come around they are used to it.
I think Benalla are big chance to beat Kyabram.
I think you need some floaties mate. As your way out of your depth on this thread..:thumbsu:
Well that stuffs up your theory doesnt it mate..... i think its you who needs some floaties
And yeah tom pryde did take a fairly impressive mark on the weekend. I think some of you underestimate kyabram's depth. Sure shepp have some very accomplished players, and i agree with everything said about them, but so do ky. We have josh pell and bernard wearden to come back, one of whom made bushies and one of whom would have except for injury. and we have 2 players who made it to the very last cut of bushies this season, Tom Pryde and Sam Lovison, not to mention about 5 players who have consistently played senior footy all year. And as for the whole after party thing, ky are very focused on finals, and all understand that the last thing that anyone wants is a repeat of last year.
Its hard to guage the strength of any side unless your on the inside, and good players are only part of a team, a team that has played together all year may perform better than one just come together for finals

At under 18's level i doubt many teams "work" on being able to play the ground. Also its a bit diff to AFl playing at MCG as the MCG has more than 2 teams as its home ground and teams play on there a fair bit where as deakin the most 1 team could play on there is twice. where as Shepp play there every second week and train there
.....What about echuca with a full side are they a chance? I think the field is certainly very close this year. No team would want to be getting cocky.
Good to hear ky boys arnt getting cocky then... Echuca at full side could be a threat, nance, connors, dixon, florencee all comnig back (not sure if they are already playing there or not) and with the likes of Jackson, Hurst, Ferrier, Kilpatrick and King could defentialy do damage.
Its good i think how its a close feild and i still dont think there should be a favourite to win the flag!
Badger_33
9 Aug 2006, 19:46
im with u numba 4, there doesnt appear to be an outright favourite. ky shep echuca and benella will all be very competetive with getting players back from seniors and representative sides. Rochy at full strength could pose a threat come september too and i think they will go into finals as the underdogs. i think its a fairly even playing ground and each of the top six are in with a chance.
Who does eveyone think will get the second chance and finish 1 and 2 and the end of the season???

Heres abit of a "Finals Preview" from my view anyway....
KYABRAM BOMBERS
Current Position (Rd 14) = 1st
Record = 13 Wins, 1 Loss, 244.26%, 52 Points
Key Players = Bernard Weardon, Josh Pell, Tom Pryde, Fatmir Besim
Season So Far = Have only droped one game to Shepparton at Shepparton, prove to be a real force and do not have many weaknesses across the ground, to strengthen their line up with Bushrangers' representive Bernard Weardon and Senior player Josh Pell, they are a highly rated chance to win come September.
Whats Ahead = Seymour (Home), Shepparton (Home), Mooroopna (Away), Rochester (Home)
Likely Finish = Minor Premiers, 2nd
SHEPPARTON BEARS
Current Position (Rd 14) = 2nd
Record = 11 Wins, 3 Losses, 125.39%, 44 Points
Key Players = Chris Cullinan, Matt Chapman, Luke Sofi, Daniel McIntyre
Season So Far = Was short of form and short of their quality players at the start of the season but in recent games shown what they can produce, line up with strengthen greatly come September and without the service of Braden Pullen (Previously Injured, now playing) and other big name players are the only team as yet to beat ladder leader Kyabram.
Whats Ahead = Benalla (Home), Kyabram (Away), Seymour (Home), Euroa (Home)
Likely Finish = 2nd, Premiers
ECHUCA "MURRAY" BOMBERS
Current Position (Rd 14) = 3rd
Record = 10 Wins, 4 Losses, 147.30%, 40 Points
Key Players = Daniel Connors, Tom Sheldon, Nick Jackson, Royden Hurst
Season So Far = Started off on fire winning their first 6 games to be placed at top spot on the ladder. Have since in their next block of 6 games droped 4, 3 in which they should have won. Have no doubt got enough talent to push for the premiership but the question is will be able to do so without choking?
Whats Ahead = Swans (Home), Mansfeild (Away), Benalla (Home), Mooroopna (Away)
Likely Finish = 4th
MANSFIELD EAGLES
Current Position (Rd 14) = 4th
Record = 9 Wins, 5 Losses, 169.05%, 36 Points
Key Players = Jaime Sheenan, Brett Mahoney, Andrew Browne
Season So Far = Could be labeled as the quiet achieves of the competition. 3 under agers that are not to be hard pressed by. Play their home ground better than anyone else plays there ground but the question is when finals come around, will the cope playing on bigger grounds?
Whats Ahead = Mooroopna (Away), Echuca (Home), Euroa (Away), United (Home)
Likely Finish = 3rd
BENALLA SAINTS
Current Position (Rd 14) = 5th
Record = 9 Wins, 5 Losses, 133.62%, 36 Points
Key Players = Tom Rockcliff, Sam Harris, Will Martinello, Phill Auman
Season So Far = Rockcliff, Harris, Martinello, Auman, Green, Priest... Certainly have the talent to go far. When they get there full strength squad in could quite easily shock everybody and win the flag, but this is against odds. Showed during the season that they are a force to be reconized and if taken lightly would make you pay.
Whats Ahead = Shepparton (Away), Mooroopna (Home), Echuca (Away), Tatura (Home)
Likely Finish = 5th
ROCHESTER TIGERS
Current Position (Rd 14) = 6th
Record = 7 Wins, 7 Losses, 101.68%, 28 Points
Key Players = Matt Hyden, Brodie Montague, Rob Touhey, Scott O'Connor
Season So Far = Just have to hold onto 6th spot and with their seniors not gonig to make finals along with Bendigo Pioneers should put together a good list. Have proven throughout the year that they can produce quality footy, even without big names and have beaten both Echuca (Home) and Benalla (Away).
Whats Ahead = Tatura (Home), United (Away), Swans (Home), Kyabram (Away)
Likely Finish = 6th

Shepp Bears would have to have the best side going on ability coming into finals if they get all there senior/murray bushrangers players back. In previous years they have qualified and played all senior/bushie players and have been a top force obviously winning last years flag. Have no doubt they will be there come grand final day

Heres abit of a "Finals Preview" from my view anyway....
KYABRAM BOMBERS
Current Position (Rd 14) = 1st
Record = 13 Wins, 1 Loss, 244.26%, 52 Points
Record = 11 Wins, 3 Losses, 125.39%, 44 Points
Record = 10 Wins, 4 Losses, 147.30%, 40 Points
Record = 9 Wins, 5 Losses, 169.05%, 36 Points
Record = 9 Wins, 5 Losses, 133.62%, 36 Points
Record = 7 Wins, 7 Losses, 101.68%, 28 Points
Good Post.
However Rochy will have to fight for their finals position. After their loss on the weekend it looks like Tatura have moved into the top 6. It will be interesting to see who out of Tat, Rochy and Seymour finish 6th.

Shepp bears would have to be diffinate favourites for the flag, with all there players back in and performing. any1 else think different???
i tend to think that there isnt a single favourite for the flag this year.. reason being kyabram still have not played a game all season at full strength,..just becuase shepp have kelly, mcintyre,sofi n cullinan coming back(if thats all that comes back) doesnt mean they are automatic favourites at all..dont get me wrong theyre good players but its team balance that will contribute heavily come finals time..
does anyone know who comes back for echuca??or the kyabram players out..?

tru dat kp, tru dat.
kyabram are missing players like the weardons, the pells, the nelsons, the martins n the odd players in an out of the line up, the way things are shaping up at kyabram is looking like a good outfit come finals time,
call shepp favourites if u like, however as soon as a team gets branded favourites it has that baggage come finals time.

still dont see W.Martinello anywhere here, the only player from the 3rds tht has been in the best of a seniors side that will be figuring heavily in finals week in week out, i personal rate him heavily(he was an ex teammate..but) could easily play any none key possy on that team, after seeing resent games would put him in the above side before cullinan, butler, nelson and nance!!

You would have to be from Ky right? R. Jones rucking over King and Auman? Where r the likes of Sheanen, Warnett, Martinello, Normington?
i've liked how you've mixed mine up but there are a few boys who yes are good in thirds but if it was a full strength then you would definently include them 4.
Sheanen & Martinello Vic Country reps, both consistently playing seniors and getting in the best.
Warnett consistently gaining around the 20 touches mark in TAC Cup and won interleauge B&F (correct if wrong)
Normington consistently getting 20-25 touches in TAC Cup and a 06 AIS-AFL Scholarship holder?

Its going to be a big weekend in GVFL thirds this week. Seymour and Tat battling it out for a spot in the finals, Tat most likely to get up. Echuca(3rd) v Mansfield (4th), Mansfield with the home game will be to good for the Echuca boys whome it will be a very early Saturday morning for. Possibly the biggest blockbuster of the weekend, Kyabram(1st) v Bears(2nd) i would have to say an almost full strength Bears outfit would have to be favourite, what do you all think???

Dont worry about players who have played Seniors and Rep footy being qualified for finals, Clubs always find a way of making sure they qualify despite games played in U/18s.

As an unbiased person and just a lover of the high standard of GVFL, I find it hard to understand how you can only say that Normington "managed to get in the best" against Benalla, he had 28 touches and kicked 3 goals. From all reports he was nearly there best player. He is a 16y/o kid and to play that well against a great team i think is a great achievement. And for those who have picked their best under 18 side and not had him in it, i also find very strange. Go thru the Bushrangers website, and almost every game he has played he has gathered between 20-25 possessions, although not getting in the best on some occassiosn. But those who know football well, know that getting in the best is only one person or a small group of persons view, and that coaches/selectors do have favourites.

what do you mean he looked to have had the ball on a string. none of the seymour opponents could get near him reckon he must have had close to 25 - 30 touches. Seems to look like he could handle himself in a fight as well no one went near him this weekend.

martiniello is a very good in and under player who loves the hard ball not goin to go forward and take your big mark but when the tough stuff needs to be done he is your man for the job. prob 175 cm if that and has very good hands and an amazing side step following his fathers foot steps at benalla, just returned from vic country duties where he did everything right and wounldnt be afr off ais selection.

yeah Echuca is getting those 3 blokes back along with tommy sheldon (leading kick/mark getter or one of in the TAC cup) and Timmy Dickson. Dickson has played every senior game for Echuca since leaving Pioneers and this kid is a freak. Been in the best many times. Played on Rory Hilton, Saad Sadd, and some other big names. He is very under-rated but not many would know him as he came from Cohuna. Will be a huge inclusion for the Echuca thirds in the next few weeks as seniors cant make finals.

Martiniello would b the better junior, he can go forward and kick goals aswell, he has also made vic country and harris hasnt. they hav both played around 5 games in seniors and will has been in the best if not the best player for benalla atleast 3 or 4 times while harris has only been once and martiniello is a year younger than harris.

Agree with an earlier post that Tim Dickson is a gun and would be a difficult match up. rockliff would probly be the best from benalla in the last 5 years, he is a gun forward and can play anywhere on the ground, but martiniello has had a stunner of a season and has been unlucky to miss out on AIS selection.

Exactly. why doesnt every1 stop havin a sook at havin a go at everyone and talk about footy, its a forum for football not havin a dip at every and feelin tough cos u had a go at someone through a keyboard eh? what can we talk about??
Possible GVFL 3rds premiership could be between Bears and Ky, Bears thrashed them on the weekend but from all report ky didnt exactly have there strongest line up out there on the day for a deliberate reason?

You would doubt an under 18s side wouldn't play their strongest side fo a "deliberate reason", you cant afford to get ahead of yourself playing finals footy. Thats what brings sides undone!

Well said ECHUCABOY and if it is true that ky did that i am sure the word will get around an give all sides the incentive to beat them
i can assure you that ky didn't deiberatley have a weak side out there on the weekend, it was the strongeset they could have on the day

Well their seniors can't make finals so why play them in seniors? Couldnt they let them try and gel together as an entire thirds team?
same reason chapman and cullinan played seniors probably im not sure. Because players like playing at the best level they can and get experience uder their belt

But before Bears lost they still could have made finals, where as kyabram couldnt have. Does ky think they are sneaky or something?

mate, they just wanted ta give their 3rds players as much experience in the ones as possible b4 the end of the season... pretty logical thing to do really plan 4 the future and get them ready 4 next year!!!!!! with the ones un able to make finals its a perfect time to play ya young players as there is no where near as much pressure put on em to perform straight away and they get much more game time as well
well said thomo!! that would be the precise reason.. i think all of the gvl clubs would be heading in the same direction.
if u have certain number of top players playing seniors they may not be needed in the team.. as far as duties go, (not just directly at kyabram, but to anyone) even the inclusion of one or two great players may not differ a side at all.. footy teams are all about balance. not just putting the best players on the field whereever they fit..i think we would all agree on that.
kys team was also pretty strong on the weekend...just had a day off thats al i think..considering last time there was only a goal or two in it.. so looks like itll be a close affair come finals time..
allthough the bears were a good outfit on the weekend, it will be good too see all the teams in the finals race playing finals footy, its a tpotally different ball game.. heard echuca are shaping up alright an im still hearing word about this martinello bloke.. he should shine come finals time aswell.

Well mate that reason could be that Ky for some reason didnt want to play shepp at full strength so they didnt give "anything" away to shepp. I dunno why im just saying from what i have been told.
