i thought i would be a good idea to put a under 18's thread in to swap info about the 18's so on and so forth. it would be good to see how the other under 18's in the gv are goin at the moment, and how they are going to shape up this year.

ky boys start trainin on their own bout three weeks ago, fair few been trainin with seniors before hand though. probably have a better group of second year player this year then last, not a great deal comin up number wise but the quality is pretty good. were hopin to get a couple from tonny after there move but did go through. Will have quite a few tried in the senior through the year as the don't seem as they will be that good an mayb 1 or 2 in bushies. Matt delid an Josh pell will return after both missin the second half of the year
Got prac matches against golden square and mooroopna lined up, how bout everyone else?
just another question, who is rendena playin for? he was like the town bike last year he had a go on everyone in shepp last year

nomis how is Matt delid goin with his pre-season after his knee reko?? he killed it the first harlf of the season last yr! would like to see how he goes this yr.
nomis#17
1st March 2006, 18:38
the knee is goin well, he has had a few week off with a bit of tendernitis in it of late, should probably be back on the track in the next few weeks. Has found a nice set of cannons for his new outfit for this year. Should go well when he gets back into it and gets his confidence back up

Ummm On that topic of seymour's under 18's training i would like to comment on eamon mannix, although he hasn't been seen at training, i have heard he has been gaining from some gym time. along with the size of the kid, the skills have been known to show, mainly on game day not some much on the training track, but a hot tip for eamon to be up there with the votes this season, also there is a rumour that he might be leading the lions out this season.....

Seymour thirds have picked an old player, under the name of shannon o'connor who is set to carve up the centre bounces and his movement around the ground is outstanding.... he will be very valuable to the seymour lions as they will have to fight for the title

Joel Brooks, dynamic left foot, but yet undecided about whether to play a real league like GV or play at school with assumption, what kind of league plays less than 20 home and away matches, seriously, AGSV is a joke, GV is just great, but yeh anyway joel is a key player ready to pull a usual 40+ posessions a game, outstanding skills and pace.... great player

United will be competitive but won't be contender's.
Their side is a very young one.
Players to watch will be Normo and Matt Rendina when they aren't playing bushies.
Luke Checcin should play all year and will win the B n F.
Also picked up Glenn Senior from Katamatite.
Will play key possy.
The bears will be strong yet again.
Only thing that may stop them is that they have Matt Kelly, Chris Cullinan, Matt Chapman, and maybe a couple of others in bushies.
Young player to watch is Ash Williamson, prolific ball winner and can turn a game around.
Only a light frame but great skills and pace to burn.
With a full side they will be very very hard to beat.

How will Shepp Swans go? Have they recruited? Can Matt Hebbard play?
Can you list coaches of all sides? Is Mick Ryan coaching Ky, as when he does they normally are very good?

Not sure about Ky only know a bit about the shepp sides,
the swans i'm not totally sure about but i don't think they have recruited any huge names.
Heb will most likely play bushies all year, good player.
A bit like last year, they'll win a few games but just don't have any match winners.
But as i said i'm not totally sure.
The one to watch here would be Luke Henery, good season last year and will go close in the league medal if they can win half their games.

Haha.
Rochester are looking OK. They have four players with the Pioneers, but I'm not sure how much they will play there. They have lost quite a few players from the team that made the finals the last two years, but have picked up a few quality players from the under 16's. Could possibly make finals, but I think they will miss.

seymour thirds should have a very tough seeing the loss of some great players. but also they should be ok with the recruit from nagambie, brent le cerf, who did quite well in the KDFL. but yet to see how he goes in the GV. How are kyabram, shepp bears and rochester looking? are they the main contenders for the flag this year? or who's the tip?

Yeah Seymour might struggle not much talent at the club this yr, but names like jake anderson, ben tampion, sonny judge, dom russo and lachy watts have all moved up, they all contributed well, especially jake when he didnt play bushies, he will be a regular for the 1's this yr, and a rumour that dom russo and ben tampion will get a run there too.

yeh mate i see that this thred is turning crap. i see that u no benny, jake and dom seem to be best mates with them. do you play footy your self mate? jake will play this yr with seymour then might move on with stevy d when he moves on next yr prob to a vfl side. benny tampion played assumption footy last yr he played in the ones and played in the premiership team. Russo will be playing ones this yr with benny and jake. Steve is real big on the 3rds boys from last yr having a run in the senior side, there might be a few 1's aperiences by some 3rd's boys this yr but will just have to wait and see. The seymour 3rd's are training with the seniors for the rest of the yr steve wants to involve the boys more, so the seniors will train with the 3rds on tuesday nights and then we will train under stevie thursday nights this will be what happens for the rest of the season. Love to read your next post Den

i dont know who this guy is that is writting off seymour this early but they have had good showings against assumption in the mitchell cup pre-season comp and then a good win against northcote park who have won three consecutive flags. they will be a little bit young and inexperienced but i think they will be compettitve with some good work on the track. on the jake ando front and dom russo, jake will be a very solid senior footballer for seymour in the senior side this year but i expect dom russo to play a fair bit of seconds. although seymour seconds will be a force again this year with big preseasons from several of the players, including big nick pap. ben tampion is struggling with hamstring problems but is looking fit. scott mckenzie looks like a guy that could push for senior selection with some could performances in the past two games. also a few good pick ups in the thirds. should be a fair year for the lion cubs.

anyone got any results or comments on teams form practise match or just how they are goin?
ky has played 2 now and won both, first against gold square winning by 2-3 goals after it being close for most the game. Good hitout for the first game against a big bodied side. The other was a waste of time and still dunno why it was played against gigarre from the KDFL. Won by about 170 point and finished with 11-12 on the field.
Playin mooroopna next sat, so should give a good idea of how we will go as they should be pretty strong this year with how the have gone in u/16 over the last couple of years

seymour are traveling pritty well so far with some good performances so far, the boys are looking young but have good sprit and want to play for the jumper. there will be some inexperienced players in the team but they will but in 100% this season. training on the track as been good with the boys training with the seniours on tueday nights to get there skills and to get some sence of seniour football into there game. The boys will have there toughest game this w/e the game will really test the boys and it will be good to see how they come of agianst a good opponent... will get back to you with the results.

The Seymour Boys have had three practice runs this year, comin out with one win, and two losses. With some of the younger boys standing up and taking on some centre roles. The Boys had quite a good win over northcote park, and while the went down to assumption by 1 point, which was quite a fight. they had a complete blow out, being smashed by 20+ goals against east burwood, on the weekend. round 1 should be a good game to see how good the lions really are! captains of the side should be announced late this week or early next week....

ky played mooroopna in prac match on the yesterday with ky winning by about 5-6 in the end. stand out players were sam nelson at full back, did not lose a contest all day. By far the best game i have ever seen him play. Benny gents and azza kelly both kicked 3 each. Tys warnett, who i must say is a huge unit, picked up posessions at will all over the ground. He didn't much support from teammate and as most mooroopna side tend to do they lacked disciplend even if the umpiring was a little doggy at time, ya just can't afforded to go on with things and give away 50's. Ky should be right up there again this year and mooroopna should be a quality side all so.
i am ganna take a stab at a ladder for this year, i know it is hard to say for the thirds but i will have a go anyways:
1 - Shepp bears
2 - ky
3 - benella
4 - mooroopna
5 - mansfeild
6 - seymore
7 - echuca
8 - rochy
9 - united
10 - swans
11 - tat
12 - euroa

Met him at schoolies, im a congupna boy, billy grace, not much of a player meself but have a dip, lol, love the kid, top bloke, herd that off ray carrol he's close friends with my olds... did u see the game against ack? and was just wondering if he does have a big kick as ray said he can kick the pill a long way... where u seen him play TheDen? u play yaself?
Yeh i've seen jake play, played with him at st.marys and then when he played at seymour a bit last year i was there. i watched the seymour v. ACK game, good fight. yeh i play a bit of the game myself, do u play in the GV?

Luke Spargo didn't get into the best for Seymour. He got one kick in four quarters of football and it was a turn-over. who-ever wrote the best must not of watched the game.

Echuca is not as strong as i first thought. I played for rochy and they struggled with 5 players playing on permits (myself included) and brodie montague and rob tuohey playin 1s (both pio's) and marty mckenzie playin 1s. and the had pez oliver and Bj latter both not playin. Echuca had daniel conners out (pios) and tommy sheldon (pios) playin 1s and casey nance in the 2s. they had jordan flourence (pios ruckman) in the ruck against a 14 year old (scott oakley) and still only won by just over 20 points roydan hurst kicked 5 but 4 of these were after half time and they were kicked on small bodied boys who have never played back. i belive that they dont like the hard ball and majority lurked out the back, there best player by far was kilroy and matty nunan goes alright

if any of the under 18s boys from echuca want to play seniors, they must play a game of reserves the week prior to playing seniors. its a rule bought in by the echuca footy club because they are short on numbers in reserves. so casey will most likely play ones this week or the following week.

how did scotty o'connor go and hyden?
O'Connor was best on by far up untill 3 quarter time. He was on 1 of his usual start from the wing 5 bouce goals and after he goaled it he did his hamstring, not sure how bad it is but he did miss out on school footy. Honda Hyden also had another good game named as rochy's best but in school footy on wensday he strained a groin nothing serious but he didnt play the rest of the day because he is in the 1s this week. Rochy have just scrapped up the numbers this week gettin a few guys from school but these fallas havnt played since under 14s. They will have a few elmore boys (Mitch "snake" hayes kane stone and chizzy, all in rochys best last week) because elmore have the bye in the heathcote dfl

Yeh Jake is quite good seen him play a fair bit of footy.... who'd ya hear bout this "thumping kick" from? news spreads fast bout this kid... and i think there is too much talk bout jake on here actually.... do you play in the GV? or do you play at ACK? or even around this area?
watched this jake anderson on saturday not a bad player still got a bit to learn, not saying i dont either but he will be a very good country footballer dont get me wrong. there is a kid playing thirds footy for benalla actually two kids faren preist and tom rockliff those two will be two to watch this year farin is a 14 or just turned 15 year old kid and kicked 5 against seymour saturday and tom played u16 carnival on the weekend and from all reporst had a pretty good carnival. tom actually kicked 7 in round one so i think the saints thirds will be right up there again this year with a very young side but from what i have seen so far there are some exciting times for the saints 3rds

brent was easily in the best 5, and jac was good with 3 goals up forward, didnt have a run on the ball though (from what i saw anyway i missed most of the 3rd and 4th quarter done my ankle). dundon played for assumption the day after and ray carrol doesnt allow any games to be played before an assumption game.. even the calder boys.

i think u will find it will be grant hately, jack smith-williams, scott mckenzie, andrew green and ryan kliemt
actually, you will find that smith-williams played well... up foward sheep-doggin it, lets just say smitty did his job, best on's include kliemt, le-cerf, hateley and scotty mac too tough in defense. Shannon played well in the ruck but needs to be fitter... its hard with 3 boys injured and the rest played/playing assumption... with benny c, mick d and cael mc back it will fill alot of empty spots in the side, and brooksy doing his ankle doesnt help either. a full strength and full fit side with be granny contenders this year... when mullet, scotty chal and patty o back that will toughen the backline up even more helping out benny ure, scotty mac and captain manixxx. centre line of kliemt, le-cerf, clifton and mccarthy will kill it and greeny, hateley, dundon, sidebottom and o'conner and smith-williams will provide height and good scrummage on ground level... go lions

Mr. Carroll happens to be a close family friend & there haven't been too many lads turn their backs on a First XVIII gig at ACK . . . . only those that found the going tough. Maybe pupstar couldnt cut it hence the reason to head home and call one of life's true gentlemen a p***k.
