Andrew Ireland has resigned from the club.

I just like to say how shocked I am at this, and would like to thank him from the bottom of my heart for everything he has done for the bears/lions since he joined the club 12 years or so.

Congratulations Andrew and all the best for the future.

The full story is listed both on the Lions and AFL websites

Goodonya Andrew. It's a shock, but I can't say I blame him. He's been working towards a flag for Brisbane for so long, now it's here and where can he go? Back to the same old grind.

It'd be a shame for him to be lost to footy, let's hope he returns in some role in the future.

I reckon this might have been on the cards for a while - ie: Ireland resigns after the Lions win the premiership. I heard as early as '99, a rumour stating pretty much that at least (although, you can never really tell if rumours have much substance to them).

I wouldn't be suprised if Collingwood tried to secure his services in the future.

That is a shock!!

Andrew did great things for the club he seemed to do everythink. I as a supporter am very grateful for what he brought to the club. All the best Mr Ireland.

I'd say he'd be a good chance of going to the Pies, Rip. They tried to tempt him down south a couple of years ago. I'd be sorry to lose him interstate, but I'm sure he's thinking "My work here is done." Well, fairly sure. If he's used to thinking in cliches.

Andrew Irelands resignation comes in the midst of a growing division at the club regarding Ben Robbins's controversial delisting.

It was suggested to me that Ireland was keen for the Lions to re-draft Ben in the National Draft, but the coaching staff after re-drafting Nathan Clarke at #45 were adamant Robbins was not to be picked. They then passed on their #51 pick and Ben was snapped up at #54 by the Kangaroos.

It was all too much for Ireland who couldn't stay at the club who not only ignored his clear instructions, but were blatantly throwing their fine Red Rover tradition out the window.
