IMO they'll be pretty spread this week as there were quite a few good performances, without being outstanding.

POTY

5. Reilly A real lot to like about his game tonight. Huge work-rate, 8 tackles, good disposal. The conversion from outside receiver to inside mid-fielder is almost complete.

4. Hentschel The pick of the forwards, although Perrie worked damn hard. Not as dominant as last week, but did some magical things

3. Knights The ball magnet marches on. Playing him on a wing has released the birdman (and bird-brain at times) up forward as a damaging HF flanker

2. Bode Worked hard and would have had him higher but for those easy misses for goal plus a couple of hospital ball passes.

1. Mattner Playing as a HB flanker he was one of the stalwarts in defence - just never gave up.

Could have just as easily had McLeod, Thompson, Edwards and Van Berlo in there as well. it was very very even.

Best Team Man

3. Reilly See above

2. Mattner See above

1. McLeod Some pretty classy passages of play from Macca tonight, especially when they were needed.

Rookie

Some good efforts from those eligible tonight. Knights, Van Berlo, Vince and Maric all had useful to very good games. In the end it just had to be

dont know about reilly for BOG. His hands were good in close but still a long way off. What was surprising was how much poorer rutten appears to be apart from against tredrea of course, without the A class flankers beside him. He was moved off roughead after he cut him up and earlier the first gamer does him in a one on one. Doesnt appear to be able to hold his ground as well as he used to. Maybe it was just an off night.

Was a good match, and as a Hawk fan, i feel that although we didnt get the win, we certainly can take away some positives from this game.

Well Done :thumbsu:

p.s: I think Bode was great for you guys last night

I am disappointed in you lot. Not one of you had Biglands in your best players but the big fella played a very good game.

BOG

5. Matthew Bode - Once again people under-rate his game and pick on his faults. The good definetly outweighted the bad. BOG by a fair margin for me.

4. Rhett Biglands - Spanked everyone that came his way. Pretty much dominated the rucks. Finished up with 11 touches and 7 tackles  . One particular play was Huddo like. Rhett just kept fighting for it and won it in the end.

3. Brent Reilly - As I said somewhere else, a very good game by radar doing all the tough stuff at the bottom of the packs. LOVED his tackling and aggression. Keep that up and you are in for a big year. Was a bit too handball happy and I would like to see him kick it more as he is a beautiful kick.

2. Andrew McLeod - JUst showed enough to keep us in anticipation for the season proper. Had some classy moves that only McLeod can do. Loves playing onball.

1. Chris Knights - A little bit quieter than last week but still a pretty good effort from the lad. 16 touches and 2 goals is a pretty good return from your wingman.

2. Bernie Vince - Did a pretty good job for a player playing his 1st AFL game. Has a bit of class and toughness about him that I like. He adds a bit of an X factor to our forward line. If he can work on from his debut, he will be a quality pick up.

Nathan Van Berlo - Courage and toughness by bucketloads. Needs to tidy up his disposal by bit but overall played well and had in impact. Can't complain about the lad too much :)

Thought Reiley was important, Mitchell was doing well at the clearances which normally gets us on top, but Reiley worked hard and got the ball moving back your way in the last quarter towards the low scoring end. Was impressed with his game.

Biglands hurt our inexperienced pair. Cambell should never be played in the ruck, Taylor got his hands on the ball more but Biglands was hurting us a lot, especially early in the game when you guys dominated the first minutes. Shows that we need to fast track Bailey for when Everitt retires, our midfield isn't as potent without him.

Don't see a lot of Adelaide on T.V and was impressed with Bode, can honestly say I knew basically nothing of him and now has my respect after the game. Good tough player, and adds more depth to your already strong list.

Great debut by Vince - he will play AFL for sure this year.

Good front and Centre positioning from Bode -Welcome back. Nailing that first goal wouldve put paid to last weeks demons.

Mattner at halfback seemed out of his depth initially but played a serviceable game.

Well done to Roughnut and Franklin - they are two good focal points we will hear a lot more of.

BOG

5. Daddy Mac - EVERY time we needed some senior stability and class he just seemed to be there. Appears to just be nursing himself in a cruise mode into the season proper.. will be an exceptional burst player for us I think. I really can't wait to see how craigy manages the side this year. The way Mcleod was used and played and in this game has me thinking we could be in from a special year. Just imagine he and roo cameo'ing in the middle when needed but added that touch of stability, class and inspiration around the goals or in defense as required.

4. Bodes well - When he was on the ground just always seemed at the fall of the ball or in the contest. Still our best pure rover in terms of find the ball off crumbs I think. You only notice his bad disposals because he wins the ball so convincingly in damaging positions that it dissappoints if he isnt as damaing as the space and time he creates justifies. I'd rather that chance than the ball simply being rebounded out of our forward line.

3. Life of... - Great game by reilly. Another player cruising a bit in terms of he seemed very focus on winning the ball, giving with hands and then protecting the runner with his body. Thats when we had the ball. When we didn't he was awesome with his attack and aggression as others have commented on. Like Mcleod seemed to add a touch of stability every time he touched the footy which is saying alot for the hopes for him this season. Loved his game.

2. Sir Chris - Maybe deserved better given his goals but wasnt always amongst it like he had seemed in last weeks game. Just wait til Roo is about winning the footy and giving the young fella an example to learn from and plenty of the footy too. Hope he gets a wing all season and burton plays up forward.

1. Ben Rutten - probably a strange choice in some ways but I was only 3/4 focussed on the game and he just seemed to win alot of the footy as well as being the defensive spoiler in some big packs. Got beaten a little in the last quarter but I didnt see those contests as particuarly bad play on his part and to be honest he looked a little exhausted.. possibly from the numerous times he had won the footy across half back when he was playing out of full back :)

BTM
3. Life of... - Just a great display of someone given a task I believe by Craigy to focus on a few key 'team' areas in the pre-season. Those worrying about his handball happy game fret not.. I read it as he was told to focus on the give and then get his body in a position to protect the receiver.. he did it well and always gave stability to the side doing it. Add to that a great defensive game and he easily gets this one from me.

2. Swayze - a number of time numerous efforts at the footy and his usual bullocking game on the ball.

1. Matthew Bode - just never stops trying around the footy and always seems to be around it too!

Rookie

3. Chris Knights - boys going places as many have said.

2. Ivan Maric - not seen many give him votes yet but I don't think we lost alot when he was on the ball. YOu can see his rawness and timing needs alot of work at times but that comes with game time at the top level. Always in good position, always putting his body on the line. Wouldnt suprise me to see him come along this year if one of clarke or biglands goes down. HOWEVER, I havent said this yet but we have to play clarke this year if he is fit. The guy is hands down the best tap ruckman in the league. We WILL turn games with him in the game at times and we have so many young midfielders to benefit by playing at his feet that I would argue its better for the future to play Maric ahead of him. Maric will develop just fine.. give the other youngsters who will play on the ball in the future the chance to learn from one of the best ruckmen... as well as giving us a better shot at that flag which we are chance for.

1. Nathan Van Berlo - Seems to belong, head always over the ball and should play this year I think.

That part I agree with completely. Rigga played very well especially around the ground which is not his best part of his game.
