View Full Version : Jesse Smith, Colin Sylvia or Brent Stanton
Who do you think has the brightest future and consequently who would you want in your team.
Jesse Smith would have been a top 5 draft pick had he not been snapped up by the roos under the f/s rule and looks to be an amzinf talent.
Sylvia whilst being the highest of the draft picks has not come on as the demons fans would have liked, but has shown glimpses. Will he convert these glimpses into something more special?
Stanton has proved to be the bargain pick and has the most runs on the board to date, he certainly knows how to find the footy.
Note:Biased kangaroos, demons or bomber supporters dont vote, but all welcome to comment.

Sylvia probably has the most talent, probably has more of that "freak" factor. Stanton is the most likely to extract the most out of himself, he isn't blessed with a massive degree of natural talent, but he works and works and works. While Smith, I haven't seen a lot of, is still very much an unknown quantity at AFL level.
Stanton is a good fit for Essendon because he's a consistent performing midfielder at AFL level. Something we lack and the other two couldn't provide right now.
But I'd be more than happy to have any of the three on my list.

I don't know why you saw the need to start a thread on it,I think thats taking it a bit far.And what was the purpose of bringing Stanton into the debate? He wouldn't (talent wise) be in the same league as Smith or Sylvia.

And i would take Smith, hasnt performed at AFL level yet but definetly has the talent to do so. He is a good size 191cms and 85kgs but IMO needs 5-7 more kgs.

He won't be encouraged to put on that sort of weight and will be playing mostly half back midfield. Is a running player not a KPP,that is the beauty of his size.

I've seen Stanton the most and would probably take him because of that.
Sylvia has big raps and may overtake him, but a safety bet I'd take Stanton
I've only seen J. Smith in the NAB cup match and a couple of games previously, but looks to goods, too early for me to say, but I'd be happy if I were the Roos with him.

Can Jesse Smith kick better than the other two players?
Cooney aside, the top ten from 2003 really need to improve their footskills with Walker's, Stanton's, Sylvia's and Bradley's disposal not as polished as other top ten picks.

Sylvia's is actually very good, he blazed away a bit the other night.
I also think Stanton is an underrated kick. Has a funny action but gets the job done.

I know he isnt a KPP. Still think a midfielder/flanker of his height should be about 90kg. In comparison, Brett Deledio is 188cms according to the richmond website, and he weighs 89kgs.

All will be very good players. I'd be happy to take any of them. But for mine Stanton has proved the most at senior level, is consistent (as longy413 said), and he seems to be very durable. Although I'd say Colin has the most talent, but will probably have injury troubles throughout his career.
So Stanton, Sylvia, Smith for mine. But all are so close, I would swap any other under 20 on our list (except Kepler) for any of them.

I'm an Essendon supporter but I voted Sylvia. I just think he is slightly ahead of Stanton.

Stanton definitely has the runs on the board atm, finishing third in essendons B&F, i only really saw him against us, when he racked up 30+ possies, he will be a very good player, a lot of raps on smith, haven't seen him as yet, and sylvia hopefully can continue his good nab cup form into the real thing, he looks like he has it all, athletically he is great, quick, good jump, and obviously can play footy. Any of these players would be a very good pickup

Stanton's not brilliant but manages to impress me every time I watch the Dees play. Reminds me a little of Ben Cousins in the way he consistently manages to find the ball and uses it well.

Sylvia, by a whisker from Smith. Stanton was a good value pick but I don't think will be in the same class as the other two when they all finish their careers.

I was lucky enough to be a joint coach at Merbein when we made the decision to give Colin Sylvia his opportunity to play senior football as a 14 yr old. He has always been well ahead in his development compared to players his own age and I think Daniher has introduced him to AFL football in the best possible way. He would have improved a hell of lot quicker if he hadn't dislocated his shoulder and I think he will have a massive impact for Melbourne and will go on to be one of the stars over the next 5 yrs. I am an Essendon Supporter, but knowing Colin I think he will be the one to go further than Stanton and Smith.

I went with Stanton just ahead of Sylvia.
When Hird and the Johnsons retire, Stanton will need to deliver more, I'm looking forward to see him grow.

Yeah, well, nice endorsement for the hometown boy but I think you're jumping the gun a little early.Sylvia will be a top player, but to say that he will be better than the other two is a bit much at this stage. One of the others is a sublime talent, was ranked the best talent in the country during his U/18 carnival and was set to take all before him starting this week but for a broken ankle, and the other, despite his age has been playing solid consistent senior football in a midfield that is by no means the best, but not the worst either.
Would have thought this was all a silly comparison at this stage anyway. At present,Sylvia would be a millimetre ahead of Stanton.Smith is only coming into his second year on an AFL list and will have to wait 4-6 anyway.
max powers.

I'm sick & tired of Sylvia being the Buzz player every pre-season and produce absolutly nothing, i know he has had his fair share of injuries but what has he done to warrant these wraps???? Stanton finished 3rd in his Club B&F!! Scores on the board IMO. Only seen smith in the U'18's so can't comment on him.

So you're blind and a d*ckhead.
