I’ve enjoyed watching some of the frenzied anti-Carlton sentiment directed toward our young side, after their disappointing result in a practice game on the weekend. Funny because a match of such little relevance seemed to trigger a monster avalanche of pent up anti-Carlton resentment. Quite impressive. In terms of the game itself, while losing is always disappointing, it was nonetheless a good experience for our young side to watch how a more experienced team, fiercely determined to avenge the monster loss last week against the Crows in the pres-season comp, go about it. While the Blues have amassed an impressive array of talent, last Saturdays match showed just how important confidence, experience, and a determined attitude are. The good news for Blues fans is that there is a huge amount of untapped potential on their list- a feature that distinguishes them from sides like the Tiges, Pies, Dons, that, to their coaches credit, have had them running at their maximum capability for the past 12 months or so- i.e. not much upside. Denis’s big challenge this year is whether he can realise that enormous potential. I think we’ll find that this practice match experience, will prove to be a valuable part of the Blues training program in the lead up to the season proper. Interesting times ahead. :)

Probably meant nothing much if anything to Port in the end ... other than a chance for a hit out. For Carlton it probably means just a little bit more ... enough in fact for your coach to come out and apologize after the game.

For the record we were playing our youngsters. You do realise our more experienced players barely played half a game against carlton?

Who's said the match has any importance or prediction value ? Go to the Port board and you'll see we were happy that it was more kids getting a run (a less experienced side then the Blues, not more), not that we've suddenly turned the corner from one meaningless game to another. Anyone reading anything into any pre-season match (other then seeing if players returning from injuries are fit) is crazy.

Or are your fellow blues supporters nuts ? :p

It's Parrot's riposte to those demanding to know where he was after Saturday. A pretty good effort really. I like the fact that he has a bit of style. You don't always see that in posts of this kind.

Should finish between 11th and 7th. Although always hard to cap expectations of a young side with huge upside. If the Tiges have a good run with form and injuries, they should be able to finish 12th. :)

Pagan aint no plumber

The only thing this game did is

1: show the gulf between a struggling going nowhere club( yes Carlton fans I mean your club) and a finals contender

and

2: give Port and its supporters some heart and confidence after a demoralising loss to cross town rivals

Gotta give Parrot credit, at least he doesn't disappear when the times get tough unlike many other fans of other clubs esp Collingwood who go missing for weeks when their team has been flogged.

You're "enormous potential" would be even better if you hadn't stuffed up by picking up Murphy before Thomas.

I think Thomas will be a good player – but he still fits the 7th-15th draft ranking most non-Collingwood clubs gave him in the draft. A Shaw/Cole type. :)

Brent Staker takes more marks then Carltons entire forward line

Quinten Lynch equals Carltons goal tally single handidly.

Matt Rosa gets more possessions then Marc Murphy and Jordan Russell combined.

How the tables have turned.........

Anyway didnt parrot just admit that his club has a losing culture, read the post, he says his team has a losing culture, nice to see him admit it.

You have to admire parrot. Every club needs supporters whose faith is so unshakeable, whose glasses are so rose-coloured, and whose loyalty is so fierce.

If I knew one personally I'd encourage them to get therapy, of course, and wouldn't leave my child alone with them, but I have to admit to awe when I read posts like parrot has supplied in this thread.

And a cheer from me too for always showing up to take the jeers from the opposition, even if it's shaken off like water off a duck's back.

Blues let club down: Teague
12:33:58 PM Thu 9 March, 2006
Matt Burgan
Exclusive to afl.com.au

Carlton defender David Teague has said the club's playing group was devastated after the Blues went down to Port Adelaide by 99 points in their NAB Challenge clash at Princes Park last Saturday.

Teague said the loss had a huge impact on the players.

"The playing group was pretty shattered on the weekend. They let themselves down and the club down," Teague told afl.com.au.

"A group of 40 blokes are the only ones that can really represent the club, and when you're part of that and you let them down, it's really disappointing for us, especially with the history and it's such a proud club.

"I think all the players were disappointed and even a little bit embarrassed with the outcome and we've got plenty of time to work on it. Last year we started great and then faded away, but this year we'll do the opposite and build as the year goes on."

Teague simply believes the lack of pressure applied on Port Adelaide was the reason for the shellacking.

"They handballed a lot, and teams that can handball a lot, obviously we're not chasing and tackling the way we should be, so the basic things we've got to get right - winning the ball, being a bit harder and putting on a lot of pressure," Teague said.

Although it was a practice match, Teague said the players still had to learn from their mistakes.

"More than put it behind us, we've got to learn from it and it's something that's happened now," Teague said.

"We can't change it and in terms of putting it behind us, whatever we do now is not going to change that result, so you've got to put it behind you, but you've also got to learn from it.

"It's probably a good learning thing to get out of the way now, rather than half-way through the season, when it could shatter the confidence of the team"

This Friday night, Carlton takes on West Coast at Alice Springs and Teague believes this will be a great opportunity for the players to show their wares before the start of the premiership season.

"A lot of young blokes are going up there for the first time and it's a good chance to get the group together, going away for the night and it helps get the players closer and spending time together, so it's a good opportunity for a lot players to put their hands up for the start of the season," Teague said.

"It's only two weeks now, so it's one of the last chances to cement a spot in the side."

Unlike some fans, i don't stress to much at the spoon. I stress at anything other than a finals appearance.

But a low finish does give you guys like Murphy and Gibbs, or the opportunity of a balls up like Tambling or Livingston.
