I am getting sick of Jonny come latelys sticking the knife in to the Geelong Football Club, woodenspoon winners in 2002 yeah that will happen. I just love people who jump on the banwagon and sharpen the knives and make stupid illinformed comments about this great football club formed in 1859.

Brian Cook (CEO) is one of the Best in Australia, not just in football im talking big business, in my opinion Mr. Cook would be one of the first people that is Australia that is headhunted for major administrative roles in the Australian Business Sector.

Please tell me that a club that had a debt of $8 million dollars, one of the largest debts of ANY Australian Sporting club has been able to survive and reduce its debt by 75% in five years.

In that time the club lost its highest ever goal kicker (no5),
Its coach Gary Ayres and Captain Leigh Colbert. All of a sudden we are going to collapse in to a joke of a team, because Bizzell and Murphy leave quite funny. A team with the Longest sporting sponsorship in the WORLD (1925- FORD) is going to finish 16th, im sure that will happen.

When certain teams gain some credibility and respect maybe there supporters can come and challenge my comments, but when you come from some franchise teams with no history (AFL) and get stuck in to other teams your points seem to be without reason, justification and credibility.

My Name is Andrew Nolan I am proud to be a Geelong Supporter, and I hope if you are a Geelong supporter you are proud of the Geelong Football Club, and are also looking to the future of the Geelong Football Club.

The only way to get respect is to win a premiership.
We haven't done that in nearly 40 years.
North have hardly got 2 sticks to rub together, have won 2 flags in the last 6 years. Ask an unbiased fan who they respect more.
While we are on the right track both off field and on, it's going to be a couple of lean years yet - but wooden spoon? In a word, NO.

Nolsey, I'm not sure if those comments were a go at me, but if they were they were fairly misguided. I've never supported a franchise team. Not ever. Never once!

I'm not a Geelong supporter, however, I'm hardly a bagger either. I thought my comments were fairly reasonable assessments of where Geelong is at, in terms of its on-field position. I'm not intending to stick the boot in, nor for people to think I am. If you don't agree, fair enough - but it's hardly a reason to get your back up, considering the comments weren't intended to be hostile (rather, a decent discussion).

In fact, I'm considering purchasing a Geelong membership next year (partly because one of my Geelong mates bought a Fitzroy membership this season, and also partly because I reckon Geelong are a great club). I sincerely hope Geelong can once again become a successful club/team in their own right. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that they won't have to go through a few tough years in the meantime.

Nolsey,

Don't stress mate. We've heard it all before, it means nothing.

In my 22 years on this planet i've learned to take crtiticism of Geelong with a grain of salt.

Cheers

Now let me ask, NakedDeadGuy, what did u mean when u said the Roos "have hardly got 2 sticks to rub together"?

It would help the Cats cause if they didnt have such players as David Mensch- who may I say is the biggest idiot of all AFL players currently on lists. (Referring to the game against Carlton) I am not Carlton fan- but hey- Mensch acted ridicuously that day- and stupidly- and he obvisouly doesnt have alot of respect for his teammates, talking of Hocking and Murphy in particular for different reasons which I am sure u could work out yourselves.

And-well it is obvious you are going to be wooden spooners when 3 of your players cant even work together and beat Spider Burton- who beat 3 geelong players at once in rd 19- which is bloody good considering he is 210 cm tall. To think he can dodge another player is tremendous. I dont think the geelong players are tremendous though.

Now tell me- how do you figure you will not be wooden spooners?

Go Roos 2002- we may be in a bad financial state- and we may be old- but you watch as Pagan turns our youngsters into stars- Pagan is an AFL genius- I will always have faith in him. Duck is the greatest AFL player in history(or one of), Mick Martyn is a champion- and will forever be missed when he leaves, all the roos are great. We are rebuilding our team- in 5 years we will be on our way to another premiership cup (or we may have one) ALL ROOS ARE CHAMPIONS- AND ALL CHAMPIONS ARE ROOS!

KANGAROOS- BEWARE NEXT 100YEARS

I detect a contradiction here. You say your old, but then you say watch our youngsters. But you said you were old and in my book that means that the majority of your list is old players with only a few youngsters.

As a supporter of a club who is struggling as much as (or more than) any other at the moment, I have plenty of empathy with the Cats. They are a great and proud sporting club, and I would love to see them successful on and off the field. I'm sure most Victorian AFL fans would wish the best for all of the traditional clubs.

What I don't understand is why two Geelong fans would have signatures that belittle my team, the roos. Why is there animosity there? We're hardly traditional rivals.

It seems to be somewhat hypocritical to post a thread entitled "a bit of respect please" with such obviously disrespectful and inflammatory comments.

If the kangas have got more respect among neutral fans at the moment, surely that's based on our on-field achievements over the past decade? We're not a rich club by any means, but we're proud and we're determined to stay alive and succeed.

There are sections of the media that seem determined to make a headline over every piece of negative financial news from Arden Street. It surprises and disappoints me that there are fans of Victorian clubs who seem to be jumping on the same bandwagon.
