We win a game with Charlie at CHF..... Doesnt say much for the Dockers back line. This idiot should not play a regular season game this year.
He came out in the off season saying that this year he is all geared up to play his make or break year..................3 weeks shy of season proper and its Broken beyond repair.
WHAT A HACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack can bag Henry but he rest of us have Charlie, Dropped marks, easy goals converted into points, no forwards so it should be his night to shine yet he wallows in the also ran class.

Disagree on one point only, and that's that he is asked to play the wrong role down at Geelong because of our list.
How many key fowards weigh 89 kilos? Not a single one.
Charlie would probably fit in better at a club like North where he could go around as a flanker feeding off Thompson and Rocca.

Fair point is it too late to ask for a trade for 2006?

Well, who would we take of similar value? I'd like to say Hale, but the Roos wouldn't play ball with him with their dearth of ruck stocks.

The thing about Charlie Gardiner is he seems to always almost do sumthing. He'll look like taking a mark and ruin it at the last second. The reason Geelong won with him at CHF is because they ended up kicking inside the 50 to other players, or used there midfeilders to kick the 9 pointers.
The way i see it, your midfeild almost makes up for a CHF, with the hard running, and there always seems to be a free midfeilder about 60-70 metres out from goal for you which i think is one of ther keys to ur success so far.
Great win btw
and also a question
The abletts havent had a great pre-season, have they been told to just relax out there pre-season because Gary just seems to be out of the range of play on numerous occasions lately.

We won the game in the 4th quarter with Milburn at CHF.
Chapman was the only other bloke that looked like marking the thing up forward. Mooney had a crack and just couldn't hold them because he had half a dozen opponents.
Nathan has looked average for the most of the pre season but does a couple of things - the one two with Enright and the big contested grab - to keep the faith in him.
Charlie and Lonergan both struggle to mark it because they can't take a contested grab, are slow on the lead (opponent is right on their arse), and try to mark it on their chest (easy pickings for rump raiding defender). I just wish we had some big bastard with ******** to straighten us up.

Despite his poor decision making, Charlie does get the ball heaps. If any of our other fowards got the ball that much we'd be awesome. I know we hang crap on Charlie, but he does seem to have a knack of getting the ball around the forward line. He made some poor choices last night, but was a little unlucky at other times (ie. holding the ball on the boundry line)
If he was good kick for goal and totally ignored every short pass attempt, he'd be at least a 25 goal forward and in our best 22.
WAKE UP CHARLIE!!!! LEARN TO SHOOT AT GOAL!!!!

Agree, agree, agree... in general we kick alot more behinds than goals these days.. who the hell are we.. North??

Bag Kent all you like but he still manages to take contested marks and consistently kick 50 (or close enough) goals each season and he is one of our better contested marking players. Gardnier is a hack that while her may be able to get to the ball, he ********s him self when he is there has poor decision making skills, bad disposals, is Ok on an uncontested mark, but is a dud when he has a player at his Date trying to spoil.
I think I would like to see McCarthy in at CHF ahead of Charlie and that isnt saying a lot. McCarthy should go the speckie, then handball off the Gazza or Chappie for the 50 mtr shot a goal.

A forward with no confidence to have a shot at goal inside 50 metres is no forward at all. To take the quote from Snatch: "He's a f__king liability."

Dude, my comment was in jest, tounge in cheek, haha funny, so to speak.. hence the little green smiling face next to it!!
Why did Charlie and all the other forwards constantly look to pass it off last night, 40 meters out, slight angle? He and Gary JR looks SO uncomfortable shooting for goal from more than 20 meters out..

I was extremely suprised to see Jnr pass it to Moons as he was streaming into goal 40 out.. he usually always puts those away.
I wasn't suprised in regard to Charlie tho!

since the delisting of spriggs and the retirement of rahilly, Charlie "carwash" gardiner has assumed the position of worst player in the hoops... for a man his size he goes to ground way too easy and his decision making is abhorrent... if this bloke is on the list in 2007 I'll eat my hat... if McCarthy can get a good run with injuries I'd have him in the side before Gardiner any day as he can at least hold his marks...

F: S.Johnson B.Ottens N.Ablett
HF: K.Kingsley H.Playfair G.Ablett
Now that's awesome.
Fair dinkum, barring injury Charlie won't get a look into the senior side.
I'd put Mackie and Lonergan in ahead of him.

No room for Chapman ???

Nathan off the bench (if at all) Other back ups McCarthy Mackie Lonergan Gardiner. Milburn also looms as a quality pinch hitter as he's shown pre season and over the last few years.

Don't worry, I can't stand Charlie either. To me Henry and Charlie are neck and neck. Kingsley just slightly in front of both of them. The only difference between Kent and the other 2 is that every now and then he pulls out a cracker of a game. (but never when it counts)

Please!
As easy as it is for us to sit back and keep critisicing Charlie week after week, the fact of the matter is, the guy tries his guts out for the club and although he makes countless errors, their is still some good to Charlie.
Watching him play on satdee night, when he failed to take a contested mark, he kept the ball out in front, making sure that the crumbers got their hands on it...Charlie tried his guts out all night and it is so easy for everyone to sit back and bag him, but as supporters, and most of us, members of the Geelong FC, we should be supporting a guy like Charlie.

Well said 'DavidInellaFanClub'. I admit I am very harsh on Charlie but it's just so hard not to be annoyed at him. LOL The poor guy, i feel sorry for him. You have to admit that he stuffs up a fair bit!

Charlie is playing CHF because of injuries to H and McCarthy and he provides a greater contest in the air than Lonergan, while Nath doesn't have the tank to play there just yet.
Slot H or Macca in at CHF and Charlie could play on a flank, in a simular role to Tarrant or like how Pavlich played on the weekend. While H stays at home for the contested grabs, Charlie could slot in on a flank and provide a quicker wider lead up the ground. Something he did against Lance in the first NAB Cup game to pretty good effect. He is more of a link man than a key position player and better suited to a flank but just for the time being he's our CHF.
Even if H comes back this week, he'll share the CHF duties with Charlie.

DIFC, while I can see where you're coming from, it's not like Charlie just had an off night. He does these things all the time and that's why people bag him out. Unfortunately, "keeping the ball in front" is not enough at this level. He needs to present as a target, take marks (5-6 a game) and use the ball well. That is "his" role. Until he does that, he's fair game.

You're spot on there catempire. No doubt CG busts a gut, you can see it on his face. But he's gotta pull in some contested grabs, then turn around and slot them.
And to put H on a par with Charlie. Sorry. H did some amazing things late last year. He took some powerful grabs, burst packs and laid big tackles. Not at the Jonathan Brown level obvioulsy, but he's starting to make the impact that a bloke his size should.
Of course there's always room for Chappy up forward. By today's team naming conventions he rarely lines up there, but drifts down through the middle and thank bejeezus that he does. The angry ant is priceless.

Yep, agree totally. To compare H with Charlie is to compare apples with marzipan oranges. Contested grabs. Keeping your feet. Providing a strong contest.
