View Full Version : Turbo Tenace
I have been a big fan of his for a while and i admit i'm still uindecided on how good he will be but when u see him play like he did last night there is a some hope he may turn out to be ok, just his natural pace and ability to run with the ball is exactly what we need as ling, bartel and co are not blessed with natural pace, i think by years end with Tenace and hopefully Varcoe running riot on both things we may have 2 very good, quick and talented players, time will tell.

Agree Della, I thought he would be OK, just like most he will go up and down before he finds his level. He and Enright showed som good attacking long kicks last night, with some better forwards like H and big Brad to make a bit more of it, their hard work show up even more.
Yeah , Tenace,Varcoe and Wojo and maybe Byrnes in we can stack up as a quick side.
One of the big positives this pre-season.

Hugely. I take three, maybe four positives out of this pre-season so far -
(In order)
Tenace and Egan
Byrnes
Prismall.
Actually, maybe we can add Lonergan to that list too. There may be hope yet for the young man.

I think Egan was excellent last night. I don't know which match Robert Walls was watching saying Pavlich started well - Egan outmarked or outmuscled him at least 3 times in the 1st qtr.
Tenace is starting to make the right decisions now too. Like Spriggs, he used to think he had to run with the ball everytime he got it.

I love Tenace, but his kicking worries me at times.
A message from a friend and fellow BigFooty fan in the second quarter suggested he needed his feet chopping off.
He got plenty of it though, which was great. His disposal just wasn't fabulous IMHO.

What an intelligent, sophisticated and honestly fantastic friend you have viking cat. But IMHO I really thought Tenace was far from brilliant Saturday night. Sure he got the ball a hell of alot, but not once in the game did I see him hit a Cats jumper. What is the point of having the ball when you give it straight back to the opponent? If I were in the team with him, and playing football myself, I would have found it extremly frustrating seeing the ball put in a position where it would rebounded with ease.
This may not be Kanes fault but the coaching panel. Has anyone noticed how the lad kicks it? It is the most unorthodox kicking style I have ever seen from a midfield player, it's as if he is trying to hook it everytime he kicks it.
Still, Tenace has potential, as long as Bomber and boys show him how to kick the bloody thing.

It's been great to see Turbo Tenace getting a run with the SNR's team in the last few games. He has definately shown that he has a lot of potential! His got a bit of a way to go till he reaches what I would call 'proper AFL material'. Although you can tell from the glimpses we have seen that he will probably be great in the near future! His so fast! If he can get some quick decision making skills he will blitz the field!
His disposal just wasn't fabulous IMHO.
Who's is?

This is the thing with expectations; apparently unless/until you deliver on them, everything else is ignored. In Kane's case, I think people are too blinded by expectations to notice the smaller, yet marked improvements he's made to his game. His inconsistent kicking has been a weakness of his for awhile, and some people are too pre-occupied waiting for his disposal to turn around to notice the other adjustments Kane's made since he arrived almost two and a half years ago. I don't think many can claim Tenace's game to be 'brilliant', but I do suggest you look at the game again. Not once hit a Cats jumper? Rubbish.
His kicking is far from perfect, and whilst he did manage to mix in a few scrubs into the 18 times his boot connected with the ball, that is exaggeration at best. His pin pointing in short passes needs work, but his longer deliveries are hitting their targets more often than not.
Wasnt sure how good he'd be for a while. i thought he had talent in terms of his raw pace but i didnt think he'd be very good IMO, but i also knew that he was only 18, 19, 20. This pre season he's been fantastic, hope he keeps it up. Adds something to our midfield
I thought he was in the top two or three against the Dockers and there abouts against the Roos the weekend before.
I think his disposal has been a bit under rated by a few of you. Yes he kicked a couple of scrubbers under pressure but for the best part of the night he was great. Perhaps it was because he kicked it long into our undermanned forward line is the reason why some of you have berrated his kicking but this is one thing that Geelong has stressed will be a feature of our game plan in 2006.
I'm sure that Bomber abd the coaching staff would have been wrapt with his game including his long kicking into the forward line even if we didn't take advantage of it on the night. Once we have the bigger bodied forwards inside 50 he wont need to change his game and we'll all be singing his praises.

His disposal is fine on his right foot. He was forced to use his left foot a lot against Freo and thats where his problems are.

To slightly veer off target - Walls is an absolute moron. He actually said that ruckmen are the most important player, whereas surely they must be the least. It was funny how he was jerking off over Sandilands all night but suddenly silent when we slaughtered them in the middle in the last quarter. Same with Egan, he sang the frontrunning girl Pavlich's praises all night but didn't mention him in the last when Egan won every contest.
Back to Tenace, I thought he was terrific. Slowly but surely he's getting there. Remember that he was a number 7 draft pick who started 2 full years ago, and is only now cementing his place. Anyone who thinks that first year players like Varcoe or Prismall will stroll into senior selection in Round 1 may have a long wait ahead of them.

He does have potential, and that's the thing. He's pacy and talented, and I'm really glad he's at our club. And I definitely believe he's improved during the off-season. The other thing that could offer an incentive to perform even better is the fact that he will have more of a fight on his hands this season to get into the 22 every week - we've got other pacy midfielders to compete against him, and Darwinian theory suggests he will sink or swim.
And my friends are fantastic. Without exception. And they always offer intelligent commentary on my beloved Cats.

Everyone who mentioned his the value of his long kicks once our forwards return is spot on. He looks really good when carrying the ball and kicking long (hmm... remind you of anyone???). He looks poor when under kicking under pressure and this is something that will get better. Firstly, players learn to be under pressure less of the time and secondly, they learn to handle it when they are under pressure better.
