Young trio honored
15/03/2006

By Ken Piesse

Three young Victorians, Adam Crosthwaite, Peter Siddle and Aaron Finch have been honored with selection in the 2006 intake to Australian cricket's finishing school, the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.

Victorian coach Greg Shipperd said it was a great honor for the three.

"Adam and Aaron ( pictured left ) have played at Australian under-age level and Peter has made giant strides this summer in particular, having his first taste of representative cricket," said Shipperd.

This year's scholars will arrive at the Commonwealth Bank Centre of Excellence in mid-April to participate in an 18-week training program. This will be followed by a three-week international tour in late August/September.

The 18-week program is broken down into two eight-week training blocks with a two-week emerging players' tournament scheduled for the middle of the program (10-23 July).

International academies from South Africa, New Zealand and India will travel to the Commonwealth Bank Centre of Excellence to join the AIS scholars for the July tournament.

Nominated by the States and handpicked by the National Selection Panel (NSP), the 15 players are: Doug Bollinger (NSW) Daniel Doran (Qld), Cullen Bailey (SA), Callum Ferguson (SA), George Bailey (Tas), Ben Hilfenhaus, (Tas), Tim Paine (Tas), Adam Crosthwaite (Vic), Aaron Finch (Vic), Peter Siddle (Vic), Beau Casson (WA) , Brett Dorey (WA), Ben Edmondson (WA), Shaun Marsh (WA), Adam Voges (WA)

Isn't Dorey a bit to old for this?

Good to see that WA have a good represention

The four selected batsmen Ferguson, Bailey, Marsh and Voges look like future Australian players.

Crosthwaite could do with some help with his batting.

A lot of bowlers selected. Hopefully they will teach Edmondson to move the ball as he has got decent pace.

Three wrist spinners , very interesting, gunning hard to see which one of them can replace Warne.

The most likely prospect at this stage is Cullen Bailey, out of the three that is

Aaron Finch must be highly rated as he is the only Australian under 19s player in that lot.

Other players like Cullen and Cosgrove were invited but have county contracts. There were 2 or 3 others like that as well that I don't recall.

Kind of takes the shine of for the players you would think when they see Doug Bollinger has also been selected.

Surely they could of found a better token NSW selection?

Can you think of one? The rest of the NSW attack has already played test cricket :p

good point but I would of thought Moises Henriques would of been a better option.

Lets face it Bollinger is never going to amount to anything.

No Henriques?!?!

Golly.
Its like a finishing school sort of thing, players who are going well but just need the extra help, Henriques is still a development player, out of the whole group only 1 has not played F/C cricket

Ahh right.

In that case I believe this thing would be perfect for Ferg. He has the talent, just needs to harness it.

Wasting talent is a sportperson's greatest crime.

Apart from his age, why wouldn't Dorey be a selection? Bowled pretty well from my view in Pura Cup this year.

You seriously have to be the biggest, biased, most self delusional fool bar eddiesmith on here. 60 pura cup wickets @ 23 in a season and a bit of first class cricket. Yep, he's a dud alright:rolleyes:.

Tassie once again playing above it's weight division (population) in it's supply of top end talent to Australian cricket. Ben Hilfenhaus arrives with a bullet... a baggy green awaits.
