Out with the old and in with the young crew for season 2006 at SKOB. Young guns like 'Chubba' Dowd, Flash Charles, Plugga Lynch, Rombo Junior, The Wisseling dixie Dylan and The Sullitwins are sure to take their golden chance to start SKOBs new era in pursuit of the holy grails, B Section and A Section flags. With their new home ground at Elsternwick Park, the young SKOB brigade will show that mateship developed over years at school is a stronger bond than the dirty money, no name clubs with no real history in meaningless comps that are out there ready to chew up and spit out an underperforming ring in.
So I say, this is the best chance in 9 years for the under 22's in the green, gold and blue to come through and show what they can do...

Forget about the Young Guns.......
What about the Strathmore Legend Mick 'Beeza' Duggan (two time premiership player and premiership captain) who is the conditioning coach down there. Rumour has it that he will come out of retirement for the fifth time and pull on the boots once more.
Will definately show what tough hard footy is down there at SKOB's

There are no secrets in footy anymore, certainly not on this site. The injection of the 3 Strathmore duel premiership players into the SKOB midfield will certainly add some 'hardness' to the VAFA in general...should be fun to watch. Strathmores loss is certainly SKOBs gain.

Micky Duggan will never forget his beloved Mores. Brian Speaking, who are the two other players accompanying Duggan. Has close friend Ian 'Beeza' Aitkin been sighted at SKOB's over the pre-season?

Your spies are well informed Bomber. I'm sure you are also aware that one M Gayfer has been tripping the light fantastic at Toorak, should be interesting round one against Uni Blacks, Gayfer vs Groom, Aitken vs Lalich.

Very intersting Brian. Who are the clubs and leagues you are talking about who are no names and offered the "dirty money"?

Brian, the young talent at SKOB last year was probably the worst in A grade and i don't think adding nick names to all of them will make them any better.
By the way, every club in Australia would have more history than SKOB and no club in Australia would have brought in as many underperforming ring ins than SKOB have over the years. So stop contradicting yourself...

All you need to do now Brian Speaking is lure Martin Allison away from his coaching role with the Calder Cannons to complete the former Strathmore coaching panel trio with Duggan and Aitken at SKOB's.

What a retort! Very well done. Yes they have had their fair share of underpefroming ring ins( refer ukavic, mckee, etc), so it is very hypocryptical. Brian seems to be doing more harm than good to his club, if he is from SKOB

SKOB ? History ? Yes, albeit in the lower grades than A and B !
Young guns - very good 1988 movie starring the Kiefer Sutherland I believe . .
SKOB - a winter of discontent will ensue. How can it not when home is not Elsternwick but the famed Righetti Oval ! What a venue to play top grade footy !
'The future is ours' - maybe their slogan should 'Back to the Future ?'
Will SKOB be a yo-yo ? ? A Grade, B Grade, A Grade, B Grade etc etc
Ptobably not - B - for a while. . .

Spencer...yoyo is okay, would be happy to win another B Grade flag. I am sure the 7 Scotch legends who recently left or retired would have given up a couple of years finishing in no mans land to win a B Section flag, thats why we all play footy, even myself!
And for all of you great VAFA people here who enjoy this harmless fun, the VAFA yesterday confirmed Elsternwick Park as the new home ground of SKOB. No more trips out to the magnificent playing surface at Righetti.
Just bring your kites down to 'The Park'.

Brian,
1. I note you'll be sharing HQ with AJAX pretty much all season, meaning most A and B grade sides won't play a home game there at all. I believe this has caused plenty of joy around the traps, though some might like a crack leading up to finals.
2. The loss of Righetti, in my view, robs you of a significant home ground advantage. As annoying as it might have been for the SKOB guys to play there, the opposition detested it more than running around EP.
3. You don't honestly expect us to accept any player would be happier winning B Grade flags than playing A Grade footy - that's simply ridiculous. If winning a B section flag is what you guys play for then perhaps SKOB should simply ask the VAFA not to promote them if they're successful in making the GF in September? Is that what you think the SKOB fraternity would accept?
4. If Plugger Lynch is part of your list of 2006 young guns, then I'm concerned. In particular, I'm concerned about his haircut, girth and the embarassment of his father attempting to fight his battles for him at the A Grade GF after he had his nose accidentally broken in round 13 (i.e. 8 weeks after the fact). Whilst, he can't be reasonably be held responsible for his father's actions, the other two issues can, and should, be addressed immediately.
If most of the above matters are addressed in the near future, then SKOB may be actually able to consolidate in the top grade (if that's what they actually want to do).

Scribe, how are things out there at Trinity? Are the Champless boys going to turn into Chumps?
As far as flags go, ask Rambo what he treasures most, and I am sure the answer will be B flags. As far as consolidating in A goes, 7 of the last 8 years including an A Section Grand Final is a great effort from a small APS school that doesnt deal out scholarships.
SKOB will re-build, the question for me is will Trinity ever make an A Grade Grand Final whilst your legendary ruckman is running around? He deserves it and is not getting any younger.
As far as Plugga goes, unless you are a father(and I assume you are not) then you cannot really understand how protective you are of your own children, so I would never bag a parent for looking out for his/her child...at any age.
Plugga Lockett never had a problem with his size, he was one of the greatest AFL players ever, and I firmly believe that if Lynch can set himself to play Full Foward only, without the distractions of McKee and Garvey etc, then he will become the best Full-forward at SKOB since Steve Kerr, a former SKOB captain and part of Carlton royalty.
Kerr dominated Ammo footy with his size, hopefully Plugga realises the greatness within him and this year turns promise into reality by kicking a goal a quarter and bagging around 70 for the year....look out for Lynch.

Brian,
Thanks for asking. Things are healthy out at Bulleen, our list is stronger and deeper and we're hoping to a vast improvement on last years Great Escape. It all starts tomorrow with the first PM against De La.
If I asked Andrew what he treasured most, I doubt B Grade flags would be his answer. More like captaining the club during the majority of its 7 year long stint in the top flight. However, that's an opinion only and we're entitled to differ in that respect. As for A grade flags, yes granted none of us are getting any younger, but I thing Andrew could prove a handful out of the OT goalsquare in years' to come. Let's face it if OH's legendary 'Disco' Seccull can keep running around at 38 or 39, there's a good 7 or 8 seasons left for our Class of '91!!!!
We all know people (should) play for premierships, as team success is what it should be about. However, again in my view, having the chance to win an A grade one should be a greater motivating factor than dropping back a cog to win a B grade one, if you get my drift.
Finally, I mean no disrespect to Plugger, and his father's concern is understandable. However, the context of the approach to Ramsden (i.e. on the hill at HQ watching the A grade GF) was inappropriate and I'm sure if he had his time over again, he'd probably do things differently. As for his progeny, if Anthony is able to transform his body composition to add more muscle without adding more weight, then he may well deliver on the potential you have identified.
Cheers
Fraser ;)

Scribe,
is 'Disco' only 39??? Just on all things A Section, I believe that Old Hailebury have recruited the following for 06: 2 ex SANFL rep players, 3 Ex AFL listed players, one with 80 games plus senior exp, SOS's cousin who can play as well as 4 Springvale VFL seniors players from last year. I also believe that, contradictory to C Section posts, S Loewe is going to pull on the boots as part of his job agreement at Hailebury College. Throw in all of their APS scholarship ring ins and they must be the favorites.
The pay role must be huge at The Bloods, and I say that not tongue in cheek. I know personally one VFL listed player who has them as his second club because of some financial gain.

Not sure the Scotchies would agree with you. They seem to play for continuing their record as the team to spend the most consecutive years in A Grade. Premierships don't seem to be a high priority for them.

Good morning Rocket,
Collo is certainly a loss, he has given us great service. He has decided that he is not getting younger and all of the boys like the Heppells, Parton, Angus etc want to try and get Carey up the grades before their footy is finished.
Look out for the Carey boys to win it this year.

Guys is it OK to bring the genuine VAFA talk into the VAFA thread or the A section thread. I'm sure a lot of people would like to know how OH have recruited or how OT are travelling or how many OS have lost. Don't leave this talk in the absolutely ridiculous 'SKOB young guns 2006' thread. Young Flash Charles is a Nick Fraser/Paul Greenham clone, he had some terrific A grade games last year, towelled up Rice and Beetham, will be a good solid youngster this year.

The majority of posters on this site are just too lazy to go the extra yard required. That's also their excuse for playing in the Ammos. "Oh yeah, the Hawks were after me, but I had to work on Tuesday nights at the TAB." Thankfully, not everyone who plays in the VAFA is like that.

1. This has bugger all to do with "SKOB young guns" - should be on the D Grade thread.
2. Buffolo -Mitcham play in 1st Division of the Eastern Football League and (according to the EFL website www.efl.org.au) Martin Heppell was appointed senior coach of Mitcham in October 2005
I agree, it would be highly unlikely Mal would play at Old Carey given his brother is coaching at Mitcham.

I confirm the status of the Heppell boys. MAl may be a chance not to play there though. When he captained Mitcham he was constantly targeted by fat, useless pricks from clubs like Bayswater that couldn't get a kick.
All they can do is try and break a good players' jaw, and I know he was sick of that sort of crap. So maybe he will play ammos to get away from pointless thuggery.
