Geelong rookie Will Slade has been charged by the AFL Match Review Panel with a level two striking offence against Adelaide's Brett Burton during last Saturday night's NAB Cup grand final.

The incident occurred during the third quarter of Geelong's NAB Cup victory and Slade can now accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.

Geelong and Slade have until 11am on Tuesday to accept or contest the case.

Slade also made high contact with Adelaide's Matthew Bode but the panel deemed that he fended off Bode with a pushing action rather than a strike and no further action was taken.

Another incident involving Adelaide's Kris Massie, who made high contact as he tackled Geelong's Gary Ablett in the first quarter of the NAB Cup grand final, was deemed accidental and no further action was required.

The panel elected not to lay any charges arising from a scuffle involving Fremantle and Port Adelaide players in last Friday's NAB Challenge match at Fremantle Oval.

Funny enough, I thought the one on Bode was worse.
When he hit Burton it seemed a bit clumsy but just part of the game and a bit unlucky. When he went to fend off Bode it looked like he had his arm fully extended. It was also clumsy but I would've thought fell in the category of reckless or something. Either way a reprimand is all he deserved out of that game and nothing more.
Will it matter though? What's the deal with Slade? Is he gonna get a game this year? He didn't look too bad a few years ago but he's gone off the planet and now I hear he's on the rookie list.

Ditto
I thought both Slade [on Burton] & Massie [on Ablett] would be cited for the elbows.

I'm REALLY hoping that Sladey will get a game in the snr's this year BUT someone posted before that coz his a rookie he can't play for them or something. I have no idea what this means... I didn't know there was this rule. Can someone explain?

Slade looks good to me but then again my opinion could be a bit bias coz he is my fav player. :) Love you Sladey!

Slade was on our senior list up until last season when we cut him. We then picked him up in the rookie draft and his official status is "rookie". A bit weird for him & Sam Hunt (also a "rookie") when both of them have been around AFL for 4-5 years. The only rookie who is allowed to play seniors at the moment is Batchelor because he is our "nominated rookie", however if one of our senior players get placed on the long term injury list we are allowed to promote a rookie to the senior list while that player is out. If that happens, we may very well promote Will.

Thanks Sammy, I THINK I get it now. So can they change the nominated rookie from Batchelor to Slade if Geelong wanted to during the season? :)

No.Batchelor is the Rookie that can play any round.Slade can only play seniors if a player has a long term [8 weeks ?] injury and he gets promoted to the senior list.

Isn't Batchelor out for about 6 weeks?

I agree with Jess, Will is my favourite player. He was very ace on Sat night and I think he was one of our best players. I have sent a leTter to the club to tell him how ace he played. I think it stinks he's not able to play he would be one of our best every week.

C,MON THE MIGHTY CATS GET IT ON!
