Loved RATM. Loved Soundgarden.

There is no way in hell that Chris Cornell, brilliant as he is, could match the intensity of RATM. They should have just ended it.

Will wait with interest to see how the new sound is though. I fear the worst personally. :(

That's cause you're trying to think of Cornell singing Testify or Vietnow!!!

They will be a different band. Still with Cornell's voice and still with Morello's always wild riffs, I can't see how it will go wrong!

Although Tripple J had a J-Files on "Super-Groups" last night and not all of them were successful!

The pattern will just have to suit Cornell's voice a little more, which could be a good thing, as a big problem with Rage was that they were always a little inflexible due to Zack's rapping!

I am tipping something awesome!

I can see it working. Forget the rap - this will be Soundgarden with more energy. I'm tipping something awesome as well.

I almost certainly would have called the band a different name though. But on the other hand, i suppose we'll have to wait and see what we get. ;) I'm not sure that i can see RATM being what they were without Zak's political slant.

Who knows though - Cornell's just as likely to start rapping!

Suppose...

I heard that J-Files too, and the only thing that impressed me was the ol' Temple Of The Dogs, which were some PJ and some Soundgarden. I wanna try and dig up that album, would be good to add to my PJ collection.

I wanna hear the 'new RATM' before I judge I suppose, but Zack gone makes it hard I believe...

Yeah, I don't know what Cornell's focus will be. Wierd mix, but they wouldn't have got together if they didn't have lots in common (other than the obvious ie. not having singer/band :D ).

I believe that the new line-up will be under a different name.

Have you heard the entire album? It was my favourite album for years until about a couple of months ago. (i got a game soundtrack i was after for ages and it turned out better than i'd even expected so Temple Of The Dog got relegated to 2nd after about 9 years!)

It's an amazing album though. If you like the whole PJ-Soundgarden-seattle thing, you'll love it.

cheers

This is a HUGE mistake. RATM are NOT a heavier Soundgarden and Cornell must not attempt to rap. I agree that this band should have a new name and I'm still interested to see how it goes, but I agree whole heartedly that RATM were all about 'political leanings' and Zak's rapping was a signature of the band.
This really saddens me because I liked 'early' Soundgarden, but I thought they lost their way later and I'm hoping that the Soundgarden influence is not too strong................unless they call the band something different.
