One of the pleasures of getting down to training over the summer months is meeting true Bulldog supporters keen for their summer footy fix.
On the day when when Darcy reinjured his knee I met Dlanor the Dog who happened to also be speaking to a very interesting and knowledgable lady named Cath.
Cath mentioned to me that she was a member of the Bulldogs Taskforce which was a small coterie group with only 50 members which is linked to the club. To find out more about the Bulldog Taskforce plase click the following link: Bulldogs Taskforce: (http://westernbulldogs.com.au/default.asp?pg=coteries&spg=taskforce)
I think if any of our BigFooty people are interested they would love to sign up some new members.
Cath mentioned that she had a number of stories that she writes for the Bulldogs Taskforce newsletter and gave me permission to copy them onto here.
Thursday training: The whole scene is one of activity..gee even the water-boys look like young colts. I reckon they might be twins..'Trish' I call..'I reckon those young water-boys are twins?'
I mean I can pick twins..they have to be.
One has a towel on his back of his right side pocket and the other has a towel stuck in his left side pocket. 'Yeah they are twins for sure' I said answering myself. 'Hey Ben!' I yell...'They are twins aren't they those water-boys?' 'No' says the unruffled, Ben..'One is Steve Wallis's boy and the other is Tony Liberatore's boy'. 'Oh..thanks Ben' I say in the most appreciative way possible. Holy smokes, I said under my breath..I'm thinking what a wonderful, wonderful Bulldog day...by gosh they are full of beans..I can't help myself I've got to get close.
I stand at the entrance of the race and I move over to the ground in front of the dugout. These water-boys are very active and and they seem to ebbing and flowing like the tide and there is no way I'm getting any closer to them as they are very conscientious. One of them eventually comes over because he has run out of water. Wow..here he is..so here goes. As quick as a flash I ask 'Who are you?'...'I'm Thomas Libertore' he replies 'Oh well welcome to the Whitten Oval Thomas'.....'How old are you?' 'Thirteen' he answered in an extremely polite voice.
My instincts tell me he is about to charge off..some secret movement from the field and he is almost away but I managed to throw another question to him. He is going but I mouth the words 'Thomas', my throat is dry and I am feeling the anguish of the whole situation, 'Are you going to play footy with us?'. He calls back across his shoulder..'I am going to try!'
I couldn't help myself grinning! What a wonderful Bulldog Day! I love to watch training at the Whitten Oval.
Over the next few weeks I will post other stories from Cath which hopefully you will all enjoy. There is one or two of them that are really funny.
The Bulldog Taskforce could really do with additional members so if you can spare $15 I strongly recommend joining them. If the BigFooty Bulldogs board can assist in getting some new members then that would be terrific for them.
