Can anyone tell me when it was that Essendon adopted the name "The Bombers"?

The heirachy at essendon were big fans of IRA members Michael Collins, Tom Barry and the whole irish independance movement...hence the name bombers.;)

There was also a period in the 50's when they were called The Gliders, but they went back to the Bombers as the word Gliding had connotations of taking things easy.
