The soccer player threw paralowiepower and I as well, we were both thinking Rooney.

For the racehorse I think I remember them giving a clue that it started with S.

Point of debate with the quizmaster. If you mean the green clay animation figure, that was Gumby. His (orange) horse was Pokey. But as far as I can recall, the show was only ever known in the singular.

Gumbies (pl) are the Monty Python (John Cleese gets the credit I think) creation.

It should of been Gumby. Never know with the guy that runs the trivia evening. He says one thing during the asking of the question but the answer is not what some people think.

As BD said earlier, you should come along one week and join in with us. Would be good to have someone else to dispute the questions asked.

He says one thing during the asking of the question but the answer is not what some people think......To be fair the questions are prepared by the company he works for. While he is pretty knowledgeable there are some where he will personally know nothing about the subject.
Personally while I know of the Monty Python Gumbies, and also Poky and Gumby (a.k.a. Gumbie), I know of no other Gumbies.

It's all in the spelling.
There are gumbies and then there is Gumby, perhaps the quizmaster got the spelling wrong.
