Saw this last night, anyone else see it?

My God, what a disappointing piece of rubbish.

I saw the preview and thought it looked ok.

I've heard its incredibly violent....if so, what type of violence is it?

When it gets violent it gets really violent, but you wouldn't call it a violent movie.

There's some really hammy moments in it (William Hurt as a gangster is just odd and the early lovey-dovey small town stuff) and some great scenes (the wife in Cheerleader mode is "nice":thumbsu: ) but there's probably more to the "not all is as it seems" premise than what I saw.

Good but not outstanding...how's that?

My son is seeing it tomorrow night, so I will let you know what an expert thinks of it.

It's an arthouse film pretending to be an action flick. People who go to watch it expecting an action shoot em up are going to be very disappointed by the end of the film. It's a decent film with a message that it spend most of its time trying to sell.

What's an example of a violent scene from the movie? If you don't want to post here can you PM me?

I guess the detail in which the shootings (initial shooting of the baddies, shooting the bro, shooting Ed Harris) and bashings (his son hurting the jock big time) are portrayed are more graphic than out-and-out violent, but that's what the director is apparently known for...so my choice of words may not have been too flash.

We had a few people walk out during a couple of scenes, which is a bit sad when you're watching a non-violent movie called "A History of Violence" - wouldn't you expect the unexpected when going to see an "arthouse" flick?

Crap but not shyte house.. how's that? ;)

It started off really well, but became farcical.

Did anyone think of that scene from Dumb and Dumber, when in AHOV Willam Hurt was shooting at that lead character..

"Harry.. you're alive! And you're a terrible shot!" :D

I saw the movie last week - i think it is one that you either really like or your really loathe (but that is always a given when watching any of Cronenberg movies).

I found it a slightly surreal experience moving in and out of the violence as well as the confronting scenes put in front of you (such as the staircase scene - which was quite chilling and the son beating up the bully).

On the whole - i really enjoyed it (i did think William Hurt was probably miscast in this movie - but can overlook this).
