"Worsfold ran 70 metres to confront the media at training, yelling "you're all f---ing spastic" to the group."

Nice one John. Leyton Hewitt got into a bit of trouble for using that word, as I remember. Insulting cerebral palsy sufferers is very professional.

Is Worsfold the Lord of Subiaco? Does he own the pitch?

The media aren't responsible for West Coasts problems. He would do better to give his players a spray. Although calling them f---ing spastic might not be the way to go, unless he's talking to Gardiner:)

He could have asked them to move a bit more politely!

Considering he had to run 70 metres to get there, it doesn't sound like it. Anyway, I doubt if the journos would walk into a part of the oval where a training session was going on.

"The media were preparing for a boundary-side conference with Fremantle assistant coach Michael Broadbridge"

Would help if you read the link properly.

I'd suggest he was still there because we trained at Subi today.

Heaven forbid any Toasters were there while we trained.

I wasnt at training but I am aware of the media and their encroaching onto the ground.

The thing is, that the main gate where the players come in and out of, and the gate (more like hole in the fence) where the media sit is almost in the exact same spot. Our drills stick almost exclusively to that side of the ground and if the media was in the way of the session then Woosh has every right to tell them to get stuff. The reference to spastics might be due to the fact the club actually made a sign which sits in front of the media saying "behind this line we train"...if the media crossed that line then they can ******** off. Its not the football clubs job to control the media.

Broadbridge's snippet on the news had an almost identical background to Judd's. Almost identical to each and every bit of news snippets you get from Subi during a season. Understand. That's how it's done

What a horrible thing to say...how about you act like a human, no need to call him a knob. And anyway, I think the explanation is pretty sound. The article says there was a press conference that afternoon with the Freo assistant coach. So if that was the case (and there's no reason to believe it was not) then quite clearly both the Freo assistant and the media had a reason to be there.

From the footage on the news it seems like the conference was going to be near where the Dockers run out, not where the Eagles run out, ie in the shaded North West pocket, not the sunny south east pocket. If he was about to do a full ground drill, then sure get someone to tell them to do the interview in the stands, not on the ground. To run over and do it himself, with that sort of insult chucked in, is just strange.

Woosha is starting to show some cracks. A big loss tomorrow night and more questions will be asked. A good win and the media will go back into their yellow and blue boxes.

Its not wise to take on the media. You can't win. They will always win. Even when they lose, they still win.

Worsfold's comments have upset the Cerebral Palsy Association of WA.
Chief executive John Knowles last night demanded a public apology.
"This stuff is out of the Dark Ages and, on behalf of people with cerebral palsy, we demand a public apology. The term shouldn't be used and it is regrettable that it is used," he said. "The association would be happy to talk to John about more positive ways to profile people with disabilities."

What about other people with disabilities? Nice shout out for donations there.

The Eagles officials have to accept that they are not going to have it all thier way with the media. They are losing the plot because they are not used ton the criticism they are getting atm, as they have had nothing much but praise for a long time.

The club has had to suspend a play indefinitely over a number of off field demeanours, a player in trouble after threatening his girldfriend with a kinife and a player in trouble with the law from running away from a booze bus. Add yesterdays episode where Sampi was yet again involved with another dispute with his girlfriend and pulled over by cops in his car. Also the pre season from the eagles has been ordinary. So it's not suprising that the media are jumping on their back. The club is not used to it, but they have to be because it happens to all clubs in the same situation.

Sadly he saw fit to use such derogatory insults, especially seeing there were four female reporters in the group, seems like old times for the smiling assassin only going in when they had their back turned or he knew he would win.

Strange though that reaction seeing they were there to interview a Dockers assistant so really it had nothing to do with the eagles rules. Funny though he went off at such a seemingly innocent little thing pity they weren't all doing drugs or escaping from the law, then he'd probably back them to the hilt.

Perhaps he should save that scathing mouth for his wayward, undisciplined captain or the rest of the non compus mentus doofus tools on his list

The dockers & the media should have some respect & do their interviews somewhere else and not encroach an Eagle's training session.

Not the Media's & Freo's fault that Woosha is that disorganised.

The West Australian reports that they were given a directive by the club to not enter the playing arena after some issues occured several months ago. That directive has been enforced since that time. Yesterday, the Eagles told reporters to get off said arena 3 times before the "incident" with Woosha. In addition there is a sign which tells them not to go beyond "this line".

They ignored the long standing directive, the 3 "requests" and the sign (which is written in English).

That has nothing to do with it. The Media were interviewing a Freo coach after a Freo session that Freo pay rent for.

Worsfold would have known about the Freo session and should have worked around it.

WCE have the place to themselves the rest of the week.

Freo pay equal rent for the use of Subi, yet have only 1, occasionally 2, training sessions there per week, plus they have their headquarters and admin at another ground (Freo Oval). I don't think it was a matter of Freo disrespecting the Eagles...

At a really off-the-planet guess at the scenario as to why Freo were still there doing an interview, I would think:

1. Freo had finished their session.
2. Players leave the ground.
3. Michael Broadbridge then moves to position to do interview (he wasn't going to do it during training was he???).
4. Eagles come onto the ground to begin their session.

Please note: there is no "Eagle-bashing" from me at all in this post - just an explanation for Freo's presence at Subi at that particular time.

Fair enough. However due to work committments, I was actually at the ground yesterday (not observing training but had a clear view of the ground). The media had been asked to get off the ground already and they came on the ground again.

I had no issue with the Dockers being at the ground or doing interviews during Eagles training.

In my view the West (read Mark Duffield) have been taking an increasingly "********-stirring" role over the last couple of years aimed at both local teams. Of late that has aimed at the Eagles (we have made their job easy). I have no issue with them reporting stories but at present Duffield is actually trying to create the news rather than merely reporting it. The comments re Sampi in this mornings article (entirely unsubstantiated speculation) are further evidence.

While I am happy to concede that the Eagles should be called to account for their misdemeanours, I reckon that a similar calling to account of Duffield would be useful.

Cheers.

As my cousin suffers from Cerebal Palsy, I find Worsfolds comments personally offensive. I suppose it's pretty indicative that most of the Weavil fans on here find it ok that their coach can slight a highly numerous and disadvantaged section of the wider community.

'92 lost it's relevance in '93. '94 lost it's relevance in '95. The 92/94 defence is old and tired so don't use it.

If you do use it (which no doubt you do), stop denying that it was a state team built through compensation picks. Everyone knows it was

The treatment of Murray Wrensted typifies the Weav's 'culture'. There was a clue earlier with the treatment of Alexander.1992 and '94 are irrelevant, but we're still responsible for a player's treatment in 1988?

I'm sorry for your cousin. No doubt, there'll be an apology.

Unfortunately, we all live in a culture - and I use that term in a broad sense - where what some would consider to be basic politeness is labelled 'political correctness', a term that is usually accompanied by the words 'gone mad'. Such comments are part and parcel of that line of thinking.

The local paper has been beating the 'political correctness' drum for a long time now, and to see them in today's issue turn around and start wringing their hands over Worsfold's comment - on the front page, no less - makes me sick to my stomach.

While Woosha’s terminology could have been better, I think it is very much a side issue.

The real focus should remain on his running 70 metres to abuse a group of football reporters. I think we can all agree that his actions were:
- Self defeating (get the hostile media further offside)
- A reflection of how his pre-season is going
- Bloody funny

If WC lose tonight the post match interview should be worth watching.

The media and public reaction to this is a disgrace, when he ran over he should have put in an extra 10m and ran through them, they weren't allowed onto the ground and arrogantly took no notice, their are some turds in the media, I have no problem with his actions or his terminology, political correctness has been taken too far and is now forced down our throats by the weak and by social workers looking to justify their positions.

I'd like to apologise if this view offends anyone.;)
