Was just sitting here pondering our first 10 years and our achievements.

As we enter our tenth season I think we should be rather satisfied with how far we have come, yet we should all be aware the club sahould bestriving for more.

A few highlights for me:

On field:
(9 years)
* 1 premiership.
* 3 minor premierships.
* 2 pre-season premierships.
* Only missed the finals on 3 occasions (including our first 2 years).
* Winning percentage of 59% over this time.
* I think its fair to say that on a whole the club is now respected by opponents.

Off Field:
* Development of exceptional player facilities and upgrade to Alberton oval in general ... (unlike many [Victorian] clubs this has been entirely self funded and not relied on AFL/Government handouts).
* Licence fee expected to be completely extinguished at years end ($4 million contribution).
* Brand growth & rcognition is on the improve.
* Efforts of club in Schools and community programs.

While the club is not in the same league as the "state sides" AFC & WCE, I'm happy to see that it has shown the ability to stand on its own two feet without assistance, and looks to have a profitable, but more importantly stable future ahead of it.

I think in our first 9 seasons we have no doubt made a huge impact on the comp. We will never forget the failed campaigns of '02 and '03 that promised more, but we won our flag and i honestly don't believe we are far off another.

Despite the fact that we prolly shoulda had 3 premierships now (2002 and 2003 we blew it), this club has lived up to the great tradition put in place the Port Adelaide Magpies before we joined the AFL. This club is already considered one of the greatest clubs in VFL/AFL history, and we've only been in the league for 9 full seasons. Truly an amazing accomplisment. In terms of games won, we've been the best team over the last 5 years, but we only have 1 premiership to show, but 1 premiership is better than nothing.

This club is truly unbelievable. Easily the best club in footy history, and we're only warming up.

I see atleast 2 more premierships before 2010.

How does that work exactly?

How does that work exactly?

With a sprinkling of stardust?

With a sprinkling of stardust?

Whatever the substance being sprinkled, it is quite obviously a potent mix.

"This club is already considered one of the greatest clubs in VFL/AFL history".

If I could be arsed getting a sig, this would be it.

Maybe one day that can be said about the Gold Coast Kangaroos... :)

I think you're a bit overenthusiastic there Troy. Port is certainly up there as one of the great clubs but that is based on achievements over 136 years. We've done OK in the AFL but would have hoped to do a little better.

This thread is in danger of veering off on a tangent.

The success we have had in the last 9 years would be the envy of most of the clubs in the AFL.

I know every team has changes to their lists every year but I dont know of any other club who have lost 2 quality players to the Go Home factor 2 years in a row and have had 2 genuine quality players retire early because of injury. I can not help but imagine how much more success this club would be having in the short term if Stevens and Carr never left and Primus and James did not retire early.

These facts mixed with what we have achieved already just show what a great club Port Adelaide is and proves that a winning culture breeds success.
