Northern's side looks the goods. Only a couple of players missing through injury, but besides that, they should take home the 4 points.

Knights destroyed the Jets today by 10 goals out at Williamstown. Final scores were Northern - 16.13.109 to the Western - 7.8.50. There were promising signs and they are looking forward to playing Gippsland this week, stand outs were probably Anderson and Varsamakis, Perry shut down Bachar Houli n killed him and Abela did a good job on Nathan Lyons. The Knights look set for a good year!

This looks like another very very long year for the Jets as usual. I hope they prove me wrong but i seriously doubt it..........

wow? that sounds very harsh no matter how cocky a player....can anyone else shed some light on what was said?? its pretty tough to bounce back from a spray like that!
I have some very very interesting information.
Not 100% but heard of a few people, including players from the jets that Mark Neeld the coach of the western jets, said to star Nathan Lyons "**** YOU, YOUR HOPELESS, IVE BEEN HOLDING MY FEELINGS ABOUT YOU THIS WHOLE PRESEASON IN I'VE TRYED TO BE NICE BUT YOUR JUST A COCKY LITTLE ****, YOU LET THE TEAM DOWN AND EVERYONE IS SICK OF YOU".
So i don't know what happening down the jets.
is this the same coach as last year??? coz i no of an incident from last year before a game that a lot of people denied happened to protect the coach and the jets $30 000 investment in him

Hey guys, was indeed at the game on a very windy day at williamstown. Not too sure if you were completely right about neeld. I did hear some comments about him telling lyons to grow up. It was a team defeat that day and it was rather harsh to just point lyons out, jenkins was a fantastic contributor. Will be interesting to see what happens on sunday against the rebals who had a win over the falcons yesterday

Have heard rumours, what is this incident?
Have heard rumours, what is this incident?
B4 a game last yr, he try'd to get a few of the top age boys pumped up, got a bit physical it seemed that most of the boys wanted there shot at him.. it was harmless but very exciting..

fists were thrown and two players had their seasons finished at that point coz of the incident. he should have gone too but i dont think it would have looked good that the coach left
There was also a time where Neeld said some pretty harsh things to Sutcliffe and Tyquin, than said sorry to them after the game. Hope he gets the sack he is there for him self and not the kids. Stick it up him Lyons.

Hello all, I'm new to these boards, I'll usually be on the Draft and Trading forum so once again Hello :thumbsu:
As the preseason for the TAC cup began, I went down and had a look at both sides, the knights were good all round and will be a good contender in the TAC cup this year, whilst the jets didn't really look like they had it all together.
On gameday,
The Northern Knights looked liked they were a much closer team there body language was far better then the jets, and they played more like a team, whilst the jets were playing more for themselves.
As i watched on i heard one of the new players ask what one of his teammates name was, which should not happen at any football level rather TAC cup.(Jets)
The Knights played well with everyone contributing to doing something good, Meredith, Varsamakis and Spiteri were good whilst for the jets
a few younger players were good names such as, Prismall, Black and Latella, Jenkins was also a star contributor for the jets.
Outlook:
Northern knights
The team looked strong and should continue to be a strong contestant in 2006, once there injured players are back in the side they should be top4
Western Jets
Another long year could be approaching the jets if they don't pull themselves together, the team should be stronger then last year but probably won't make finals.
Alot of players who didn't get choosen for preseason training or who got cut from preseason training could of and should of been part of the list of 35+ the jets have choosen.
With Bashar Houli still a bit nervous from his injuries in 2005, i think he should start to settle down in the next few weeks and really get the team lifted. Lockwood, Lyons and Black should be a strong midfield with big Will Sullivan in the ruck but time and training will only tell.
just want to know who u think should be called back to the squad that is not in the 39 players that have been picked that could improve the list.
There was also a time where Neeld said some pretty harsh things to Sutcliffe and Tyquin, than said sorry to them after the game. Hope he gets the sack he is there for him self and not the kids. Stick it up him Lyons.
A few kids might actually benefit if they listened to their coach instead of thinking they know best. A coach with a bit of aggro might be just what the Jets needed, hardly the most successful footy program in the country is it?

[quote=footystar_]I believe Mather(Werribee), Larkin(Hoppers), Taylor(Werribee), Callea(Werribee), Knight(Spotswood), Kennady(Altona), Caufield(Hoppers), Roberts(Williamstown), Franklin(Port Colts), Magnabosco(Werribee) and Thomas(Werribee).
These players are not the best players but, surely would be equivilant with other players playing there positions at the jets.
The jets have observed some of these players over the pre-season and have choosen who they thought was benificial.
The way I see it is, give every body a chance. get all the players playing football in the area to come down, and choose the four best back pockets in the leauges, the two best full backs, four best half back flanks, two best center half back, four best wings, two best centers, two best rovers, and two ruck rovers, two-three ruckman, four half forward flanks, two center half forwards, two full forwards and four forward pockets.
that way every kid can have a chance to show what they have to offer, and a team of 44-45 could be picked that way the kids can feel like they had there chance, because a lot of kids do'nt get opportunity with there dreams.
So the players I mentioned are not the only players who should of been on the list if they had of done all the hard training over summer.[/quote
i think it about time heads rolled stop blaming players i think they should look at the likes of sexton, the batt man, hammond, and now coach time for a change is needed these guys need to get another life away from the jets who said 1 person or 3 or 4 people are not bigger then the club.

Noticed that Michael Heyne was named in the best for Western Jets.
From Orbost and played at Gippsland Power last year. Played in the practice games for Power before being taken at the Jets.
Is living and working in Melbourne and the travel for training etc was an issue.
Good to see that he hasn't been lost to the system and that the Jets have given him a go.
There was also a time where Neeld said some pretty harsh things to Sutcliffe and Tyquin, than said sorry to them after the game. Hope he gets the sack he is there for him self and not the kids. Stick it up him Lyons.
His harsh attitude also lead to a few of the jets top aged guns to walk out of the club mid season. Tyquin, De Sousa, Morelli and a few more. These boys were strong characters at the jets.... but i guess just didnt get along with Neeld.

Let's not get too hung up on the Jets after one game, yeah they lost by 10 goals but it was to a quality side. And players who had a bad day have at least 17 more chances to play well in a Jets jumper this year.
It's a shame very few people have touched on the positives out of the game - little Jenkins exciting footy in the backline and taking a couple of his good gutsy marks, big Will Sullivan in the ruck, Prismall kicking three goals, Latella working hard etc.
And jimmyjess, good point you make, you see a few blokes from time to time change clubs, doesn't happen a lot but this result is preferable than the bloke giving up playing TAC Cup because he can't commit to the travel.

all i can say is Hoppers look foward to the game against Werribee in round 2.

im not sure whether any of use were at the game watching like me on saturday afternoon but if you watched closely after Neeld "allegedly" sprayed lyons, he put him straight into the midfield in the second half giving him a chance to redeem himself by having the chance to shut down a player who had 19 dispoasals in the first half, he gave lyons a chance to prove he was all about the team. dont no if that will change your veiwn on things bt thats sumthing to think about...i havent heard about last yrs incident?

There are a few problems at the jets and things dont seem to be getting any better. The coach is a geelong boy who actually put in for the falcons job but there is no way football victoria was going to give it to him. How many local games have any of u seen Neeld at? And if he was so committed to the jets why would he put in for the job? It wasnt like the falcons wanted him like what happened to Hocking and Tudor where they were asked to other clubs? Why would a coach fly up to Mildura and fly home not spend any of the 6 hours on the bus trip up there? Team bonding? ask why there is so much friction at the Jets? It is Neelds way or the highway and i dont think he has adapted his style to the kids.

If they are having trouble with Neeld what chance would they be with Pagan, Malthouse or Worsfold? Not to mention half the VFL and club coaches around.

But they have played finals footy in 2003-2004 so obvousily them (Hocking Tudor) coaches knew how to manage lists. Maybe it comes down to keeping things simple because there lists have never been any good and they were knocked out in 1st week of finals anyway. But at least the kids had a chance of playing finals but know ????????????/ surely questions have to be asked by football victoria

I think everyone is jumping the gun here a bit, and by the sounds of it all the info u have on neeld is a lie, he may give a spray from time to time but that is wat the kids need, im sure all the other tac cup coaches do it also u just dont hear of them cause they win games. Give the club a few more games before u all start jumping down there throats again like every year.
its not just neeld its the whole panel of coaches down there and Sexton, they are being told what to do by someone, maybe from the AFL, they are a pack of stooges, cant think for themselves and really are ordinary very very ordinary,

It is the first round of the season, I have no doubt the boys will prove themselves in time.
yeah that would be right. they have no idea at the jets. they would have to be the worst run club in the tac by a mile, the coaching panel are there for them self. Neeld is the biggest c ock sucker thinks he is unreal treats the kids very badly, the jets should have had more kids drafted or rookied last year. U would think thats what the jets would have wanted, but no When Neeld spoke to several afl clubs told them to just forget about 2 kids all together what a c unt of a thing 2 do. Thats what sort of bloke he is. The scouts they have r also no good some of the kids they get 2 try out are just a joke. I say get rid of the staff after this year and get new people in than people will start seeing changes. I have also heard things about there fitness guy he is a tosser.
Yeah I agree with most of that, I would be very suprised if the Western Jets aren't at the bottom of the ladder at the end of the TAC Cup season.

Believe it or not, teams of people dont try to loose. Im sure all at the jets are trying their upmost hardest to win games of footy, as would gippsland and sandringham etc. Lets not forget the fact that the jets had 3 out of their best 5 missing in Houli, Prismall and Black, not to mention facing Ballarat who are no lean outfit- they are very good (all sides will struggle to play this mob).
I think all this forum community should try and lay off the jets and not make too rash comments about them. they are a good club with decent people trying to do what all TAC clubs do- make junior footballers not only better players, but better people. Its only round 2, the jets will be better and stronger by rounds 3 and beyond.

That's a fair conspiracy theory, does it have anything to do with the Kennedy assassination?
I actually heard (from a reliable source) that Mark Neeld lures talented footballers into his gingerbread cottage and then eats them. Not true actually but a demonstration of the absolute rubbish anyone can spout on these forums.

i believe neeld has a good footy brain but struggles to communicate well with under 18 players. Not that its all entirely his fault as some of the attitudes of the western boys is disgraceful. Players such as tyquin, morelli and desousa had easily as much talent as jake edwards but their attidude has let them down. jake on the other hand had a great attitude towards footy which has certainly paid off. i think their is deffinately a clash of egos between neeld and some of the jets players but they are both too proud to step down a level so they can move forwards as a team.
