Early reports
Willits second best for Bays in their loss last night.
Thomas best for Norwood 2s.
Willits named at CHB and at 197 cm/100kg would be a FB/CHB option once wakelin retires or is injured

Can play either end of the ground. And he can ruck too.
PS when Tim Evans came to Port he was a CHB.

Can't see him getting a gig at CHB the way Chappy is shaping up.

If he's a gorilla then FB would be a better position for him anyway.

Lonie was absolutely sensational today for North, among our best players.

Thats good news.
I wondered down to a bit of the Maggies game, how Jeremy Clayton is not playing AFL football I do not know.

Ezard was really really really good for the Bloods. If he can play at AFL pace he may just be what we are looking for. Lots of second and third efforts, plenty of good clearances.
Out of the two games I watched live, with both of my teams losing, I enjoyed watching Westies a hell of a lot more. Reasonable umpiring, reasoanable skill, both teams going in hard. Good stuff.

I think you will find Toby played FB on Schell who kicked 5.
Symes really should come in.
Lonie - well I guess we need to see what he can offer at AFL level in our side but I have my doubts that he will be any more effective than he was for Hawthorn. Worth a go at some stage soon.
They can't really afford to drop any of the young guys other than Pettigrew who is going to suffer at AFL level if he is not given a regular position to develop in. We have to keep exposing Thomson, Ebert, Salopek and Pearce to the midfield cauldron.
Symes is the obvious choice to free up Shaun a bit.
Shattock was also playing FB on Hargraves for the majority of the game and he did a good job, but I thought it advantaged North more than the Eagles having him play there.
Lonie was given 3rd best from memory at presso's after the game and was very good coming off the wing. Most of his 22 kicks were penetrating deep into the forward lines. The main question mark I had on him from watching some of his Hawthorn games were based on whether he was prepared to put his body on the line and do the tough stuff and butter up for second and third contests, but he did that well on Saturday when he had to.

That's encouraging to know.

5K 1M 5H.
If Logan wants to get off that rookie list onto the senior list he has to do better than that.
Guess its only round one :)
Anyone go to any of the games wanting to do a review? :D

Right now I would take a soft bastard as long as they kicked long.

Best game Willits has played for the Bays. I had him best for us probably based on how shyte he has been in the past. Needs to use his bulk to better effect as he is one big unit. Will be happy to see the PAP ignore him for the season.
Logan just couldn't get into the game. Will be better for the run.

Heard James Sellar kicked 4 goals in his debut. Hopefully we can pick him up in the draft this year.

A Sturt supporter at their game on the weekend was singing the praises of DeLuca today - said that he was dominant while on the field which was for about a half.
Unfortunately he could not say the same for Eckers whom he raised concerns over re AFL potential.
portentous

I'm still pondering why we didn't draft Jeremy Clayton, esp given our lack of "tough nut" midfielders......:(

Because he told clubs he would not switch to an AFL club this year after the injury he sustained.........he did get a few enquiries.
Heard from a Sturt supporter who goes each week - very impressed with Greg Bentley.
Not a lot of possessions but what he did was very classy. He seemed to have a lot of time and was a few steps ahead of most out there.
It's gotta brighten up the weekend a bit.

There were some positive signs that came out of SANFL form. Here's to some of these guys getting opportunities sooner rather than later and translating that form to the next level.

Eckermann was injured in the first quarter and had to come off at half time , so his stats were OK considering this .
