View Full Version : Membership Question (well, kind of...)

I was just sitting here wondering if it was feasable/reasonable for us to have some kind of "non-supporter" membership package?
I mean, obviously the media have jumped on board, saying how we are playing such a great style of football and that we are a joy to watch etc...and I know that alot of non-Bulldog fans are saying the same things (I'm sure everyone else hears it all too)...
...so why not offer a cheap "membership" that gives 'free' entry for say 2-3 games in a bid to attract a) other supporters; b) non-football people to a couple of our games a season for pure entertainment?
(I don't think I'm coming across real well here, but I hope you can see what I'm getting at!)
Obviously sorry if there is a similar thing in place already...just a thought! :)

Not such a bad idea. I have some Collingwood mates who LOVE watching the Dogs play (especially Robert Murphy).
A 2-3 game Mates Pack would be fantabulous. Say $20?

nice idea but don't know how feasible it is. a lot of people who buy dogs memberships attend only half the games they are allowed due so they may subsitute this 'mate' membership for a real one. it might become a cheap membership for a lot of people.
perhaps a better idea is to work in alliance with the other melbourne clubs. a team like collingwood could offer a bulldogs extension package where the member pays $25 extra to attend 3 dogs home games. likwise in return the dogs could offer the same for its own members to attend collingwood games.
another idea is perhaps they could offer this 'mates' package in addition to the bulldogs membership. when you get your dogs membership you tick a box and they charge you the $25 for an additional 3 games that you can they give to a friend and bring to a dogs game. by ensuring you have to be a member first to buy it, this makes it less likely that people who don't attend matches will go cheapo with it.

Amnesiac, I think you are spot on. The other problem with offering a cheaper membership option is that if it impacted normal memberships it would hurt the clubs revenue. I think an alliance with the Storm or Victory might also be worth considering.

OK, let's say you're a Pies fan and member who likes watching the Dogs. Say the Dogs play the Pies twice, and we have 9 home games in Melbourne.
Could the club offer a "country" membership to the Pies fan upon proof of his Collingwood membership? ie 5 home games for about $75?
The Pies don't care - he is a financial member. The Pies fan can see the second Dogs v Pies game and choose 4 others in Melbourne. The Footscray Football Club gets another member, boosts attendances and avoids leakage of prospective Dogs fans taking up the offer and not buying a full membership. Done long term, we could create a sub-group of fans and members who genuinely have the Dogs as their second team who enjoy attending games.
Win-Win all round, I say.

Like both ideas.
With the second, this could be good long term - a kind of "try before you buy" to get new members in future seasons.
I've often thought about wandering down to the Dome to watch a neutral game from time to time, especially when the wife and kid have gone off somewhere and I'm supposed to be doing the gardening:) . If I could get a cheap ticket I would do it.

i believe the dogs are offering a 3 game introduction type membership through vic uni this year. Good idea to get some of those uni students in, i imagine there would be a few that are new to the game, and don't already follow a team.
Perhaps a similar thing might be expanded in the future?
