We expect young players to mess up a bit.

We expect senior players to be able to fill the gaps.

Why can we not expect senior players to fill the gaps?

And how many years must we meditate before we grasp the meaning of this koan, Master?

Apart from both our ruckmen, just about every single one of our senior players was schyte with a capital Y.

You obviously know - what is your point.

It's clear that it will be a long frustrating year - and your observations are correct - it is the senior players that have to stand up and a couple are struggling - I usually do not like to name them but Dew and Wanga really struggled and need to lift quickly.

The youngsters were satisfactory overall but came in and out of the game and will continue to do - much to the annoyance of us.

It is not the game plan that is wrong - any game plan works if the players are capable of executing it - but the overall skill level of the senior players at the moment is not up to it.

What a difference 25 games makes!

This is a very fair thread, and more should be made of it.

Last year it was very much senior players that let us down.

Tonight, Stuey Dew, Wangas, Chad Cornes, Brogan, Cassisi played absolute shockers.

I know Broges won some taps, but he continually tapped it to their favour and failed to hold enough marks from the opportunities he got.

Dom visibly lifted after halftime but put in one of the worst first half efforts he would have produced for a longtime.

Chad was woeful. He looked very confused by his positioning out on the field, made horrible decisions and couldn't hold a mark if it fell in his lap.

Dew should make way for Symes or Lonie on the basis of his matches so far this year.

These guys needed to give something. The fact they and so many teammtes refused to run for extended periods between the first and last quarters, made us look very flat-footed.
If you don't run you won't create space, and you also won't be able to chase opponents effectively.

When will our players realise that just because they don't have the ball, doesn't mean you don't keep moving.

Bith harsh on Kane Cornes I reckon. It thought he was just about your best player last night.

Kane and Lade played well. Some of your younger brigade did OK. White was pretty good apart from that dropped mark , Pearce was quiet but he had a purple patch there where he showed his unbelieavable pace and Thomson showed a bit. Other than that, pretty average effort.

The problem and it has been coming for a while is your midfield or now a lack of it. Your management of players over the past 2 years has been deplorable and you can not expect to lose Stevens, Carr, Schofield, James then throw in your hard nuts, Hardwick and Pickett and expect to be successful now. In 2005 when you had the chance to give the youngins a fair go, MW was more interested in making the top 8 to save his own skin. This was always on the cards (I said early last year you would not defend your title and this year you won't make the 8).

PS : What is it with your mob of throwing in the towel and losing big? It was trait last year and it may very well be the same again this year.

Oh man, that move's gonna get wins on the board. Pfft.

Symes in for Walsh thanks

I thought Walshy gave us run in that first half and attacked some 50-50s well.

Dew was hardly sighted for the whole game and just refuses to move out there. He stands still and only runs a few metres just before a teammate is ready to handball the footy to him.

I am not an advocate for Lonie coming in, but Symes I think is worth a shot at the expense of a senior player - on the basis of last night Dew and Wangas would be the first two to make way.

Kane and JBurger are at similar stages of their career.
Shaun has hurt factor but can improve in his 4 quarter consistency.
Kane has four quarter consistency but can improve his hurt factor. He can do a top job negating other teams top players, but when not doing that he needs to hurt opposition more wrt to us scoring goals etc.

Before anyone starts I am a big fan of both of these players and wouldn't swap them for anyone else atm, but when there appears to be room for improvement then usually there is room for improvement.

ATM Walsh is the only defender running the ball out. He must play full games

Walsh was great last night, could not possibly point the finger at him. At least he gives some run and is prepared to kick the ball, doesnt fiddle around with it as much as the others.

Someone like Dew was a joke last night. You just spend a bit of time watching him at the game and you see how lazy he really is, he was so unwilling to make any effort last night. When he was standing in the forward-line hands on hips I think he was contemplating what KFC to pick up on the way home rather than get involved in the game.
