Stating the bleeding obvious but shouldn't be said publicly. Oh well he's still learning about 'media speak'.

P.S. OS can you please change the above long link so it just says Griffin - I don't know how to do that.

Edit - Borgsta:

To do it you need to do the following minus the *

A materclass in doing that would be good. I have no idea how it's done either.

Bit of a storm in a tea cup.Naive was the best word used for it.Dont think he meant for it to come across the way it may have.

Pugsta, I have sent a PM to go through the steps. Once you have done one you will be right.
Local, I will send it to you as well.

If Richmond need a 2nd Year player to gee them up after being pummelled by 115 points then they have huge problems.

Agree that there didn't appear to be any malice or cockiness in his comments, however one thing professional footballers learn one way or the other is not to give your opposition any ammunition or any extra motivation.
That was the most pleasing thing to me after the game when they interviewed Jonno, just a small smile and recognition that we can't get ahead of ourselves, and that the end result of 4 points was more important than the final scoreline.
I'm sure in the dressing room he would've given the guys pats on the back for handing out a dishing, but he maintained a good poker face for the camera.

The club'll be expecting Richmond to taget Griffin rather than Cooney in round 18.

Wallace is a master at using stuff like that to his fire teams up. Other than Pagan he's the best in the business at it.

Griff was just naive. What he said was true but...

Round 18 should be interesting, altought I thought they were supposed to rough us up in this game anyway?

I suspect that the club will work on that with him and it's no big deal really.
Prefer that he didn't say things like that because we really don't want to give other teams any more motiviation.

Talk before the game was that they where going to target Cooney. Didn't eventuate as such but when he was down forward he didn't get much room from his opponent who's name escapes me right now.

If they target Griff, I'm 100% sure that he could handle himself.

Don't expect this to be the last time you hear something like this from Ryan. I remember after the Cats game last year he stated quite openly in a press conference that Gary Ablett hadn't shown him any respect and that Geelong hadn't shown the team any respect. The look on Rocket's face was priceless.

I don't think Ryan should have said it publicly, because we all know how journos leap on these sort of comments and blow them up into something they were never meant to be.

It would be interesting to hear what Tiger supporters were thinking during the second half.

I can't see how Wallace could possibly use these comments as motivation next time around, because he probably said ten times worse in the rooms after the match.

Would anyone associated with the Richmond Football Club, player, coach, supporter etc, disagree with what he said?

And I doubt Griffen would be too worried about them targeting him in the next game because of his comments. What are they gonna do, bring Wayne "The Enforcer" Campbell out of retirement?

It's nice not to hear the old cliches once in a while, and as someone said, if they need a second year 19 year old to put a rocket under them, then they have bigger issues than just throwing a game away.

Refreshing to get a straight up honest response from Ryan instead of the usual stock standard answers.

Harsh but true.
They lost by 115 points in round 1 after being only 29 down at half time.

Sitting up in the stands, unfortunately it did look like they did give up. When we were able to send endless looping handpasses to players without an opponent within a bull's roar what other conclusion is there?

Either they gave up or their fitness levels were so poor that they were physically unable to chase us.

I realise that it is an insulting thing to say to a vanquished opponent, but I'd back the young man. At times it looked like 18 players v 14 such was the time and space they gave us. Thank God it wasn't my team because it was pretty shameful. If I was a Tigers fan I would be very upset.

Did anyone notice how hard he ran to get into a position to kick that goal?

When the kick was taken from full back he was level with pretty much every player in the back line and by the time he got the handball he was 20 meters clear of them all, it was just an awesome effort and then to slot it through from 55/60 metres after running the length of the ground.......

Awesome.

of topic I know, but he is so good.

I agree about Wallace local, but he has two immediate crises on his hands.First he has to get them to regroup for next week, and he will be urging them to earn a bit of respect. He might even use the quote himself to gee them up. As well he has to placate the Tiger faithful, if that's a fair description, will be baying for blood, they aren't paying Wallet a huge sum just so he can improve his tan. He will have more to worry about than what a 19 YO said.
IMHO it's past gee ups at Tigerland if Friday is anything to go by, and round 18 will take care of itself. He will no doubt also do all he can to have them breathing fire. But as well as improved skills etc I saw a much more disciplined use of aggression by us on Friday. The improved bulk and strength across the team but particularly the mid field group no doubt helped. We hit and stood up but didn't get carried away with it, we refused to get sucked in. In the Wallace era we often did and lost our focus.

Chris Bond was interviewed on ABC 774 today and said that while the club were not in any way annoyed with Grif, his comments were naive and they would be having a quiet chat this week. Understandable, but a pity. Unleash the Grif!

Speaking of outspoken Dogs, did anyone else hear Simon Garlick doing the commentary on Hawks v Freo, also on the ABC? He absolutely tore Freo to shreds! Is he from WA? He sounded more like an enraged fan than an impartial reporter.

Garlo is a Vic.

Good to see him getting some work in footy. He was a great club servant and is a pretty sharp bloke.

Yep, noticed Griffen running hard down the centre corridor when Rohan Smith had the footy. Am pretty sure it was Andrew Krakouer trying to keep up with him too...:)

Although I am a Crows supporter, I love watching the Bulldogs play. So many quality youngsters, they take risks.

As for Ryan Griffen, the kid is going to be a star. I watched a few games he played at South Adelaide in the SANFL and knew right then that whatever team he was drafted by would be very lucky. His skills on both feet are flawless. When possessing the ball, draws opponents and then either handballs to the teammate that has become free or takes them on. There was one incident of this where he ran towards Greg Tivendale then changed direction and made him look silly. Examples like that have class written all over him.

I would take him over Deledio any day....

The Tigers are battlers - they don't have anyone quick enough to catch Griff.

Bad luck Terry - back to the solarium.

An honest mistake - he'll be rapt over the knuckles by the media rep at the club - she's pretty spot on with the players.
