I see in the TAC Cup results today Paul Couch's son Tom was third best for the falcons.

did anyone see the game?

does he have the class to step it up another level if geelong takes a punt on him?

Surely not... maybe as a pick 60 or 70 but don't waste a pick 40 on him... I thought Jack Hawkins son would be picked up by the cats this year in the father/son. Would have more potential then Tom. However, in saying that, Geelong do get some fair father sons (exclude David Clarke) ;)

The question is ; Is he draft worthy? Its always difficult to rate players but would he be in the best 50/100 kids in the county in talent.
If he is around the mark then the Cats may have to weigh him up against what is likely to be available at that stage of the draft. Lets say he could be worth a R3 pick and if the Cats finish as high as they hope and depending on Priority picks, that could eqaute to 45-50 for them in the draft.
I have no doubt that Geelong will take Tom Hawkins, it will be interesting to monitor his progress this year but at this stage he appears to be worth an R1/R2 pick. If Geelong wanted and TC is up to it,they could claim Hawkins R2 and Couch R3 or they may look at him and ask him to hold off a year. Remember Nathan Ablett went later than he could have been picked.

Scratcher Neal's son was also named in the best in his debut for the Falcons. Will be a fair bit of discussion about what to do with the father/son picks this year, especially given the impression of this years being a strong draft.

Geelong will DEFINANTLEY take Tom Hawkins father son. He was not eligible last year.

As for Couch too early to call.

When we have picks 16, 32* and 48* I don't think the quality of the draft is a massive deal to us ;)

Clubs have wised up and they won't be as stupid as in '99 and '01 when we made out like bandits trading players away for picks. It won't happen again.

Couch and Neal are just run-of-the-mill rovers. Dozens of their type around every year and even the good ones (Fletcher, Johnson etc) tend to go on rookie lists.

Hawkins will go father-son for a 3rd round pick. If the Cats want Couch that would mean spending a 2nd round pick and that would be highly improbable.

Jacob played a few games last season for the Falcons as a bottom-ager.

Weaver's pretty much spot on, unfortunately. Neither at this stage are shaping up as worthy 2nd or 3rd rounders in the open draft, whichever way you choose to look at it. Early days though.

That being said, Hawkins is the only lock-in at this stage. The other eligible trio may miss out altogether.

Its alright, if the Falcons want Neal and Couch to be drafted, they will promote them in the best on grounds and give them as much exposure as possible... Michael Turner is a great PR officer!

It's a shame then that Stephen Wells is no sucker.

I see Couch played another good game. 4 goals and in the best! Solid second week performance.

The thing the Cats may do ask him not to nominate and put him on their Supp list , just like they intended to do with Nathan Ablett be before he agreed to go Father Son. If TomC and JacobN for that matter, play in the VFL , the Cats could better judge them against a better level of player, see them in house before making any big descion on them. As most Cats drafttee's spend their first year in the VFL it wouldn't impeed the progress at all and it would ensure that picks used are not just wasted

You would be a poor recruiter is you fell for that old trick. Naming them in the best each week doesn't mean much. The majority of best players listed each week in the TAC are the under 180cm brigade, but not many end up getting drafted or rookied.

As Weavers said.....they are a dime a dozen with few tricks.

Couch, even though he didn't get into the best, made in the goal kickers with three....

Eastern ended the game with 16 men. Couch got his goals at the end. Basically Geelong realised if they went wide and switched play they would always have a wingman spare. Couch got all his goals as result of that. Still played a good game, but the goals were meaningless.
