View Full Version : James Sellar 4 goals SANFL Seniors
According to results from the weekend in the paper. If anyone can confirm this and have a report on how he played it would be much appreciated. Certainly putting his hand up for the #1 selection. Has he grown above 195cm at this stage?

Did not see the game mate, but have seen him play fair few times before. With uni only part-time now I'll try my best to get to more underage games/games with young prospects.
Sellar has grown, would be pushing 198cm now, he is just so damn mobile, no reason why he cant play seniors for whole year.
He reminds me of a cross between Cox/Pavlich for mobility and ability/potential. Moves so well, can play anywhere really, even the wing.
If Gibbs doesn't go to crows, he will def go #1, absolute freak that kid, but if he does go to crows #1 will be v interesting comp between Sellar/Hansen/Selwood and co.

I was at the game on Friday night and Sellar was awesome in the first half. He kicked 4 goals in the first half and marked everything that came his way. He played between centre half-forward and full forward. I thought at one stage he was going to kick 8 or 9 for the match. The second half he wasnt really sighted and drifted out of the game. He has a great kick on him and knows how to kick straight.
This kid is enourmous and for a 17 year old very talented. He will definately go early in the draft and i would predict he will turn out to be a very good player in the afl in the future.

I was there too. He presents so well. Will only improve over the season and is a certain number 1 IMO.
197cms now.
Seen the tape of his senior debut last night. Kicked 4 played up forward. He went quiet in the second half with a little bit more attention paid to him.
Good hands and some very impressive mobility. Does not seem to have lost any of his athleticism since last year and is taller and a bit more solid now. Workrate was good and timed his leads well.
At least top 3 now.
Gibbs was not so good. Pretty wasteful with his possessions and have to say I was dissapointed with his game. I hope he has not reached a plateau (like Hurn/Clark did) and hope he can continue to improve.
Early days for both of them but I would prefer Sellar to Gibbs at this stage now.

Great we're likely to get another gun this year without having to bottom out. :thumbsu:

Depends what teams are looking for. If a side really needs a big man boost over midfielder they would go for Sellar and vice versa for Gibbs (unless crows get him).
Gibbs is VERY RARE to waste possies. I did not see the game so cannot comment there, I'll believe your wise judgement mojo. But given he is playing SANFL seniors when many vic kids are playing TAC might sort him out quicker and make him even more ready made playing against men. Cooney did, it look at him now. Flying.
That said it is prolly even harder for a bigman to break into league SANFL at such a young age which shows how good Sellar is. Tho Glenelg isn't exactly blessed with KPP he is competing with likes of Mitchell, McConnell, Duldig, Willits for a spot.
Named at CHF for this week.

Gibbs 13 kicks 8 handballs 6marks 6 tackles and 1 goal.
Sellar 2 kicks 1 handball 2 marks 11 hitouts 1 goal.
Dont think Sellar got as much gametime this week certainly more time in ruck.
Looks like Gibbs was pretty good. Anyone see the game to comment?
