View Full Version : Who here are the spoilt ones?
Australia have pretty much dominated world cricket for the best part of 10-15years and maybe longer.
That means there is a generation of fans out there who are 15-20 years old who would have seen stuff all of the struggling years of Australia in the 80s.
It seems Australia's dominance (ie. they no longer beat everyone in 3 or days) has ended and they have to really fight it out over 5 days. Though, because we are 'struggling' a little, form slumps, champions (McGrath, Warne, Waugh, Gilchrist) can't pull us through, etc etc we seem to be getting more critical of our team.
I am curious to who here are the spoilt ones and only lived and/or have followed cricket while Australia has dominated in the last 10-15 years?
Cheers

I saw the last of the great australians before the current side when lillee/marsh and chapelli retired.
I then saw our posteriors handed to us from the likes of well everyone especially the windians.
the shame of scum like kim hughes, trevor hohns, greame yallop etc betray australia for krugerrands to support the racist scum apartheid government.
false hope with every kid thrown to get slaughtered by the great windian side.
I got excited when our team won the WC in 87 I think it was against the odds and the slow rise from then.
I watched as dutchie holland spun us a victory against the windians
Shane Warne, Steve waugh, David Boon, michael Slater (before he turned into a complete tosser I was a fan)
while a fall maybe inevitable I can say I've seen some fine times for Australia over nearly the last two decades.:thumbsu:

michael Slater (before he turned into a complete tosser I was a fan)
Explain?
In my mind he's always been a complete tosser, on and off the field, never turned into one
Im a spoilt one. And i cant get enough of it. Prehaps its my psyche:confused:
First game I can remember was Slater smashing the poms for 176 at the GABBA in 1994/95.
However I have watched various games of the 80s on ESPN and ABC when they have their famous flashback games or series doco's, mostly involving Australia vs the poms, West Indies or New Zealand. Botham's knock at leeds in '81 had me in amazement. Also the Windies belting us and Hadlee always seemed to beat us by himself.
I'm certainly not one of the spoilt ones.
The 70/71 Ashes series is the first I followed, so I have seen all the ups and downs since then.
The bad eras certainly make the successful times more enjoyable, no doubt.

I must be a spoilt one, as I have only been alive for 16 years so therefore have only seen the dominant Aussie side.

seen all the greats in lillee Marsh Thompson Chappell etc ..and then rode on the coat tails of a young left hander from Qld who had the captaincy foisted upon him...Allan Borders dogged determination and guts ...set the scene for the success we have enjoyed since he led his team to victory in the 87 world cup and then on to trounce the poms on their own dung heap in the Ashes .
we all owe AB a debt of gratitude
