Symes and Lonie should be rewarded for their SANFL form, but anything's possible....probably neither will get a gig.
I imagine round 2 is Return Of The Gold Card.

Was bigfooty being a prick for anyone else last night?
Was bigfooty being a prick for anyone else last night?
The message last night was that there was problems with the data base so they took BF off line to fix it. But did anybody manage to watch the Footy Show last night?? Interesting story came up about a website and a popular forum getting in trouble for leaking info. Wonder if the problems and the story were connected in anyway.

My mate was just telling me about that, very interesting. Thanks :)

maybe it's just me, but that looks like a pretty good line up on paper. Of course, I thought that last week too. I guess some of those selected go better on paper than grass ... and some vice versa ... ;)

Lonie and Thurstans are listed as 'outs' to the Power by their SANFL clubs. But Shattock has been quietly withdrawn from the WWT line up, without such explanation. Maybe a travelling emergency.
There's a bit of media talk that Brogan is in doubt. Deluca has been named on an extended bench in the Sturt team.

Gold card.

Go through the two printed sides in the paper, and we look very average!
In all parts of the ground they have a distinct advantage (except rucks if Broges is fit and in better marking form than last week).
Forwards:
Hall, O'Loughlin, Goodes, Davis, O'Keefe >>> White, Lade, Thurstans, Pearce, Motlop
Midfield:
Kirk, J. Bolton (named on bench!), Buchanan, Ablett, Matthews, Williams (plus McVeigh, Moore and Crouch) >>>> Peter Burgoyne, Kane, Dom, Dew  , Thomson, Salopek (and even if he plays there Shaun).
Backs:
Barry > Wakelin
Roberts-Thomson > Bishop
C. Bolton < Chad overall but not defensively.
Schneider and Crouch = Wilson and Walsh
I don't normally match up player for player when rating our chances, but we look very undermanned compared to them. Unless every one of our players, oldies and youngsters, play out of their skins.
Prediction:
Competitive on score-board for 1-2 quarters,
5 goal margin through most of second half
Final losing margin 25-36.
O'Loughlin to have 3 goals on the board by half-time playing on Bishop.
Please let me be wrong.

Gold card.
After recent circumstances a selection this early of the season clearly shows evidence of having a gold card.

I think you're mostly right. Except I don't think we'll be competitive at all. I can't remember the last time I picked us to be flogged (as opposed to lose), but I'm tipping it this week. Then we'll see a youngster or two dropped, despite our worst offenders coming from the likes of Bishop, Thurstans, Dew and Lonie. And so after round 2 we can write off a year and mostly likely by selection time round 3 push back being a force again by at least another year.
I hope I'm wrong, but last year and last round don't give me great hope. :(
Why is that Portho's???????
Well, I'd need to get out of work to do it, and I've picked up the beginning of a cold, meaning sitting around the SCG for hours is not a smart move.
Given our selections (and non-selections), I just can't justify blowing off paid work to go and see the game. Seeing Thurstans come in after being smashed for Sturt last week, while Willits was 2nd BOG and isn't even in the 25....meh. And with Dew still in....meh.
I'm sure a Swans bandwagoner will be pleased to fill my seat.

Wish you would all stop mentioning the gold card. It is so hard to refrain from making jokes about its many uses, in this case.
You know, personally I think that we've had enough sly drug references now. Leave that to other club's fans, we don't need to add to them.

Oh, OK. I'll go back to forthright ones. This whole thing is inutterably childish (yes, including but not limited to the sly drug references).

I think you will be right about bishop. That guy is so useless. Im going to keep a record of how many goals he concedes this season because I think he could set a new record. How many goals did he concede last week?
I hope at some stage this season they drop bishop and bring symes in.
I guess we'll have to wait and see. Would have been nice to see Symes or Willits get a go. Im actually looking forward to seeing Lonie play.

This is your once a year chance Porthos.
Nah, I'm going down to Adelaide later in the season.

Do yourself a favour when you come down and go and watch the Port Magpies play.
I just came back from seeing them dismantle Centrals by 40+ points - should've been closer to 60-70 but for inaccurate kicking for goal - and they were very impressive. Old style Maggies play too, hard, tough contests for the ball, slick hands, keep moving the ball forward and get it into the 50. The reserves coached by Greg Phillips are on the same page - they won fairly comfortably too, with the same style. Great to watch.
And as I'm sure Macca would attest, the standard of the games is pretty high, certainly well above what it was even a couple of seasons ago.
There's other teams?

My prediction Sydney don't have a chance. Why? Power are hungry Sydney are still asleep.

Stop taunting me. You mean that sort of footy exists and that Choco, Cornflakes and Connolly have not ruined the game entirely. Phew.

It's true, it's out there ... you just have to go and look for it! I was surprised by the high standard of the footy and pleased Timmy G has carried on - and built on - the Cahill Port Adelaide style of game.

I recommend that as many as possible should go down to the Magpies against the Roosters in Rnd 7 on Saturday May 13 at Prospect. With North's attacking game going up against Port it should be great to watch. As South showed yesterday North will give teams who go on the attack a real shot at winning as we won't go defensive at any point, as the 20-21 to 19-9 scoreline showed (after South were 6-2 to 0-2 up in the first 20 minutes).

Port v North should be a cracker game. It's one I'm looking forward to seeing.
Just back on the AFL, rumour running around Alberton yesterday was Cassisi was in doubt and Ezard would take his place. Shattock wound up playing for the Eags.
Welcome back capt ebert. Long time, no see.
