Could Rainsey be that small defender we we're looking for?

I think Rainsey will serve an apprentiship there for sure. He and Thursfield soundeed good. Will wait for the Video to make sure.
Also Daniel Jackson did well down foward. Provided a good target while kicking 2 and couldve had 4. Same can be said fro Pat Bowden who has had a great start to his Tiger career, being in our top 3 2 weeks in a row.
Im disappointed we lost a game we could've won, but glad the team came to play tonight.
I loved his attack on the ball. Creative from deep back with very few errors. Harshly penalised when Milne jumped on him. Very good game.

I also think our injuries tonight could be a blessing in disguise. While it was our youngsters who got injured, this should surely force TW's hand into introducing more of our kids...
And on the wide open spaces of Subiaco against a team whose foward line start each quarter within the centre square, then bring in some young, fresh and speedy legs.... Eagles aren't gonna hurt us physically!

All we need now is that small forward, that tall forward, and that other small forward.
Going along nicely .... will only get better with experience
Lets not get to carried away just yet

The two big positives out of this game where Rainesy with his attack and perseverence and Jacko looking a very likely type with a great attack on the footy and sure overhead marking....hope theres a few more where these two came from:thumbsu:

Get serious mate. Thursfield looked great. To lose a year of development and potential speed is a great loss to us.

Yes I realise, obviously. But it gives us 2 places to fill, hopefully with young-uns. It also means due to Will's terrible injury that we can elevate a rookie.
We lost tonight, but even with the loss and injuries there were positives.
Last week there were NONE!

Of course its a big loss, but it provides an opportunity for someone else.
As it is there are alot of Tiger supporters who believe not enough youngsters are getting games, this kind of forces our hand.
This year aint a Cup year, so let us introduce and play as many n00bs as we can!

If we went through the game injury free. Id say drop Krakouer for one of the youngsters anyway. The injuries hurt. That said, dont write us off next week :)
we may have found a new resolve from tonight.

Last week there were NONE!Nothing positive about Thursfield ... just when it was really looking like we had un-earthed one
I know where you are coming from TDM .... Schultz looked like a fish out of water and i think we will cover him ... but Thurfield .... sickening

I havent seen it yet. Another 90 minutes till it will screen here.
Im not happy we lost, but Im happy our players put their bodies on the line and I do believe as we move foward (beyond this season) that there were many positives.
This game was very important as far as our future goes.... I just hope the players dont think they 'did enough'.
If Will is what we all think he may be, then dont worry as he will be back next year even better.. I mean he has Browny to inspire him back!!!!!!
Raines was very good again this week and seems to be improving week by week...
It was a good effort from the boys, still disappointing but at least we showed heart and played for 4 quarters and gave the Saints a real shake :)
Raines was superb. Threw himself at marking contests, spoils and tackles - and a couple of them even stuck! If he keeps that attitude and continues to bulk up he will be handy.
Brave, attacking, dashing running out of the backline. When he is stronger (and therefore less worried about being crunched) and fitter (so not having expolding lungs when settling to kick) his skills and decision making will get even better. The merest hint of a replacement for Leon Cameron - a defender who can turn the team around and create a goal from the backfoot.
Just have to work on his tendancy to dive on the lose ball and give away free kicks for holding. Needs to attempt fewer marks and more spoils, and keep his feet.
Superb effort though. 20 more weeks of that and we might have found another piece of the puzzle.

I'm on his bandwagon. ;)
Said it before and I'll say it again, the kid will become a superstar.
Just have to work on his tendancy to dive on the lose ball and give away free kicks for holding. Thats just Brattish over-enthusiasm :thumbsu:
For mine ... i love it . I don`t care if he gives away a couple of free kicks a game . He will get smarter about it as he gains experience .
Cannot tell you how refreshing his attack on the ball is . After the plethera of cream sponges we have had running around in our guersey at times he is fantastic ... and as you said , has a bit of skill about him
Warms the cockels O` me weary heart . (tears welling up) Rainesy ...O Rainsey .
Wheres his old man i want to give him a hug ?

Gee he takes me back. Often said if he was half the player the old man was we would have a gem, well he's on the way.Quickly becomong a favourite.
Loved his game last night. Dash out of defence was great and also plenty of courage.
Has also shown he can do a job on different types with a reasonable job on Murphy and then keeping Milne goaless last night.
Shattered about Thirsty's injury, hopefully his rehab goes all according to plan. Would've been great to get a year into him playing on guys like Riewoldt each week.
Thought there'd be a thread on this kid here. Seriously, is this the smokey for the NAB rising star? His attack and willingness to back his own run, even playing on Milne and even after he was caught, seems to show he will be an absolute gun.

Raines looked impressive in the limited exposure he had last year and after he serves his apprentiship in the backline should find himslf as part of the midfield rotation and looks a very exciting prospect indeed. Very unlucky with one of the holding the ball decisions last night but he shows more skill and desperation than most of his teammates and should be used as an example for the other kids coming through on the list as to what is expected. Some of his more experienced teammates could take a leave from his book as well. I was surprised that he wasn't listed in the best players in the paper this morning to be honest.
Well done young Rainesy. Now if young Roachy could develop into the player he looked capable of when he first broke into the team that would be great for the team.

was pretty stiff on that one, only fella making a play for the ball, was then swamped with little option to get rid of it...tough decision indeed:mad:
Could Rainsey be that small defender we we're looking for?Probably for a couple of years but I can see him eventually moving into the centre like his old man. Has a nice bit of pace and is prepared to use it to back himself in.

I think it will do the opposite TDM. Thursfield has looked good every time he has played for us. He is the type of player that actually steps up a notch when he plays at the highest level instead of the usual types we have had in recent years - bullies at VFL level but not good enough for AFL. That performance would have encouraged the coach to keep him in and develop him into a key defender. With him out it just opens the door for Hall to come back in. Stafford or Knobel will replace Schultze.

Jackson showed alot against the Saints.

Yes, you also thought the same about Graham Smith.

Thought the same thing IDman. This kid looked like he belonged out there. Hassled away at Cryboy all night, and kept him relatively quiet. Thought he was pretty hard done by when penalised just before half time for, well, punching the ball away from Tear-Up (haven't seen the tv footage yet, but appeared he was stiff when at the ground). Just pray he recovers.
Back on topic, Rainsey is coming along nicely. His decision making and delivery is superior to some in our team with eons more experience than him. He'll be right.

Nah Harv, he wasnt stiff got him nicely...didnt loose any marks in my exam for that either!
I love how, when he is cornered, Raines seems to back himself a bit and then actually executes and delivers. Shows class.
