View Full Version : More hurt this round than last.
Last round you could acknowledge that you we're beaten but tonight it hurt alot more knowing that we could have and probably should have won that game the way it transpired. Although, impressed we could stay with the Saints for pretty much all the night. Very very impressed with Raines, Bowden was great too. Thursty kept Riewoldt to 1 goal I think until he did his knee, got to hope he is ok.
Losing Schulz and Thursfield pretty much threw a spanner in the works to our fight, but oh well. There is next week.
The kids led the way. Thursfield was great. Hope all is well.

Less hurt, far more to be enthusiastic about. Shame for the injuries, but hopefully this forces more kids to be Blooded!
(Im almost 32 and seen alot of bad losses, but none comes close to last week, NONE!)

Rumour is schulz could be even out for 10-14 weeks, if so that is real bad luck for him, but lets hope he comes up. Suggestions for replacements for those 2? as they r probably our 2 best young KPP atm.

Just think... it gives more youth a chance... We are no shot at the cup this year, so take advantage and give experience to the younguns.........please!
Terrible luck for Will as he definitley provides alot of versatility to our backline. Hope he recovers better than ever and takes a leaf out of Brownie's book.
Feel terrible for Thursfield. He would have done wonders for our backline this year. Now we have forrest gump to look forward to. :(

Devastating for him, really did a good job on reiwolt tonight.
From teh radio call, it didnt sound like any Tiger player in the backline lost against their opponent.
Reiwoldt didnt sound effective, Milne goaless and Gerhig quietish, in comparison to past games.

It feels like no matter what we do, we cant help but fail. I mean, Thursfield absolutely dominating Reiwoldt, but whaddya know, he has to do his knee. Reiwoldt suddenly starts dominating. Last year, tigers 7-2, Browny does his knee, we dont make the eight. Anyone see the pattern? this club is ********ing cursed, and ive just about had enough.

I dont agree it hurt more than last week....to me the saints always looked like they had that bit up the sleeve when we edged close....to cash in against a good side , all chances must be capitalised...we couldnt quite manage that...It was a fighting effort in that the game was a contest right to the siren that rang 27 min into the last qtr...Thats what should be applauded...that fact alone ...nothing more or less....
forward line functioned well with Bowden, pettifer and Jacko presenting well...Just gotta get richo and browny to fire....I think richo has ran into a couple of good FB in harris and Hudghton...should be much easier next few rounds ...
Im not popping champagne corks...but feel like their is some hope...:)

The Club is destined to fail
more shattered this week becuase we lost 2 players and came so close, absolute disaster
Just not enough attack I'm afraid. In the end that is what got St. Kilda over the line.

I'm not hurt by that performance i'm rapt. Excellent by all the boys. It would have been an absolute disaster for St Kilda to go down in the last 10 minutes. For a premiership favourite to go down to a bottom side like a would have just been enough reason to call for thomas' head. A much better effort and a nice percentage booster by the Tiges this week:thumbsu:
Absolute tragedy about Thursfield hopefully he's able to return in a year without long lasting effects. Same with Schulz such a shame another year is ruined by injury. Will we ever get to see whether this guy can play.
Dont get me wrong ppls. It hurt alot more, due to exciting prospects like Thursfield going down and being out for the season and knowing that the game was in our grasp and we couldnt run away with it when we had the chance and should have taken. Am I pleased with the result? Yes and No, the way we fought tonight was more than any supporter could ask for, but we had the chance to win but didnt take it or couldn't, thats what hurts.

Terrible news regarding Thursfield... a good young player. Bad luck Tiges, you played well and I was barracking like mad for you. Hang in there everyone... last week was one out of the box. You weren't far away tonight and I hope you can give those W.A. crack smoking junkies a nice old towelling next week! :thumbsu:

thanks fella.
Shocking injury to Thursfield which probably lost us the match...
It did hurt but I'm not too worried as we played good footy, not our best but stil we showed improvement and willingness to want to win the game...well done Richmond, look forward to the next few rounds where hopefully we can win a few :)

We shot for the lead or to level the scores 5 times tonight. First four were misses and finally Simmonds put us in front. If we converted we would have won the game. I cant help but feel that if it was any other side barring Geelong we would have taken the points. Im proud of the boys, none the less.

Yep we can now elevate. I suspect that Humm will come in. One positive is that Humm gets a chance at the top level, as sad as this is.

Man, what hurt more than losing tonight was losing Thursty and Schulz.
Thats a killer blow !!! :(
Sure I'm disappointed that we lost after getting the lead in the last quarter but its better to go down fighting than not give even a whimper like last week.
St Kilda are lucky, we had them on toast.
Thursty was great off an interrupted pre-season...a real shame...Hope he gets back next year. bad luck to Schuzy too. :(

We can elevate a rookie if we want to, but would be mad too if we didn't want the guy in the seniors. It is a $25k decision so we will leave Humm, Howat and Graham on the rookie list until their form warrants senior selection. Then we can fill in the forms to promote them in round 10 if need be.
Perhaps a slight silver lining in that Howat and Humm now have a path to the seniors open to them and so have the extra motivation to do well at Coburg. Just a shame we couldn't afford the extra two rookies to create more competition.

You might be right but I think the Saints had the game. We were at full-bore and were wilting. Saints had another gear to click in to. Often see games where a team spends all its petrol tickets just to get close, only to not have anything left for the last 10 minutes - I think it was one of those.
Would have liked to have seen Deledio go to Riewoldt instead of Bowden at the death though. Deledio would have had the pace to stick with Riewoldt on the lead, Bowden doesn't.
The worse part of this loss was it makes last week feel even worse. If we had lost by 10 goals you could sort of shrug your shoulders about round 1. This makes round 1 look even more insipid.

Don't be to hard on yourselves the boys really put in last night and were unlucky to loose, very impressed with some of the young guys Deleidio(Absolute Gun) , Raines etc. Your older brigade are letting you down Richo, Gaspar & Tivendale. Good luck for next week.

Pretty sure Newman went to him for the last 5-7 minutes

From a neutral point of view, I think your boys were fantastic, especially after the effort last week. I was really hoping you would get up. A few dodgy decisions went St Kilda's way eg: Gehrig gets a free kick, the same happens to Richo within minutes, but no kick. I think you should all be proud of your team especially considering you were down to two fit men on the bench. Should be a great game next week.

I think we should of won last night, we played better than them and a few things got missed by the umps but we should of won anyway. Had thursfield not done his knee then i fell we would of won.
