View Full Version : Gaspar needs to go
If last week was not enough, tonight Gaspars indecision, poor skills and heatless attitude cost us three goals. He was the difference. Unfortunately the difference he made helped the Saints to a win. Too harsh?

Bull********!
He didnt cost us the game tonight, teh only thing that cost us tonight were our own skills!
No Scapegoats this week. We lost, but hopefully our players got a bit of self respect back after last week.
While I will never consider a loss a positive, we have lost to the Saints by an average of over 10 goals each game over the last 4.
Im disappointed we lost, but I feel we're back in the game and can beat the Eagles next week!

Ist quarter. panicked, turned over a handball - end result goal
2nd quarter. chip kick from the back pocket - turnover - goal
2nd or 3rd quarter? One on one with Gehrig, ball to ground 15 metres out, Gaspar gave up hands on hips, stationary , Gehrig followed up - goal.
I'm not looking for a scapegoat. Gaspar didn't do his job and should not make the trip west.

Kay, fair enough.... Im going off the radio call as the TV coverage is just beginning where I am.
But it sounded to me that no player was to blame, but instead teh entire team's skill levels are just not good enough.
In the 2nd Qtr, Deledio turned over and had a goal kicked by the Saints where we shoulda been going foward.
p.s. How many times did Cogs turnover?
P.s.s How was Tivendale's game?

I was at the game too dice and believe me gas would struggle to get a game at coburg the way he is travelling.
I thought Tiv didn't look too bad went he went long. (not very often)
Cogs was a lot more effective than last week.
Silly chip passing became very frustrating. Keep all heavy implements out of reach during the first two quarters.
The way the kids go about their business is worth a watch.

Is Richo in danger of being dropped?
1 goal in 2 matches?

yeah prob is too harsh...there was a stupid ******** up when in a brain fade he went to take on gherig...bad move and cost us...apart from that he held a leading forward to 3 goals ...with one or two of them from soft free kicks...all in all not a bad day at the office...part way redemption from R1 when he went AWOL..

he needs improving still, apart from a couple of bad incidents he was ok. the gehrig follow up was the worst though. gas looked like he just didnt even think to chase him, or he didnt try.

I was there, and I thought he got SMASHED by max hudghton. This happens every time we play the saints though, hudghton really knows how to beat richo in the contests. But no, richmond would never drop richardson for form reasons, only for disciplinary reasons.;)
Gaspar was truly attrocious tonight. He played the man, not the ball, and was lucky not to give away quite a few free kicks. Thats what led to the gehrig goal, he was too interested in outmuscling gehrig and didnt even notice when gehrig turned around in the contest and snuck into the goals.
Also was that gaspar in that situation where the two players went for the bump on the saints player in the backline and bumped each other? The one that resulted in robbie harvey kicking a goal. If it was, that should be the last straw.
Gaspar ... has for a long time , been a 1 trick "wrestling" pony ... period .
Gives us nothing in the way of run or rebound . Shocking disposal . Unsure of himself ... knee injury has robbed him of any confidence he may have had .
AFL footy has passed him by .
But .. Gehrig has only kicked two tonight , and with Thursfield and Schulz going down , we wil have to grin and bear him for the rest of the year down there ... simply no other option
Why don't you all get on the back of Richo, he hasn't done much for us either. Gaspar couldn't help some of the goals Gehrig got on him though, the skills of the Saints is excellent!
At least next week WCE have no real KP forward so Gas should do well ;)

Well I gave Richo hell in another thread, this one is for Gaspar :D
And Gaspar's poor game had nothing to do with how well his opponent played. Gaspar not only was beaten by his opponent, but he also gave a few goals to opponents that werent his through poor disposal or lack of effort.

I cant remember if it was the second or third quater, but Gas had another of his "forward run into goal Gas just stand there" moments. I wonder if the press will pick it up again this week? I doubt it, but I noticed it and pointed it out.
In fairness he was better man to man this week. Gehrig started well but Gas drew him from the play. As #1 backman drawing the player to your own forward line shouldnt be your winning tactic, but Gehrig was quiet after quater time.

He was directly responsible for two of Gehrigs goals. One was a free kick and the other one he gave up the chase. He created a couple of others with is poor skill level and another by taking out his own team mate who was attempting to spoil. Don't keep making excuses for him, he is a liability.
The kids on show last night had a real dip, elevate some more and lets see what happens.

I thought it was one of Richo's better games. The sort of game he should have played a lot more of over the years. He stayed in the corridor much much more. We kicked to the hot-spot and not to the boundary much, much more than normal - because we had a key forward playing as a key forward.
He combined well with Jackson/Brown by taking men away from them and creating space. He didn't come charging back to contest third man up against Simmonds when Simmonds drifted forward. He chased, tackled, dived on the ball and showed plenty of commitment.
He didn't drop the dummy when Hudghton got on top of him. Instead realised that by using-up Hudghton he was letting the other forwards P. Bowden, Jackson, Pettifer, Brown get chances they might not otherwise.
It was about the team kicking a winning score, not Richo trying to do it all himself at the expense of the team. One of Richo's best efforts.

Gaspar was adequate. I doubt he is the first defender who has found Gehrig's bulk and strength tough to counter, simple truth is that he kept Gehrig in control. Didn't beat him but Gehrig wasn't going to beat us either.
With the ball in his hands he was rubbish, but we know that. Personally I am happy that he is pushing himself out of his comfort zone and trying to be a running, rebounding defender. Sure he will make a pigs breakfast of it, but it is important for a team-leader to be commited to the game plan. If he just sat at home at FB and avoided getting the ball it would look better to us, but it would be a terrible example to set to the kids.

.
I know the incident your referring to in the goal square, there was no prospect of anyone catching Gherig as the two tigers lost their feet in the contest...Having said that they could have made it look a whole lot better by at least looking to recover themselves and go after him in a belated effort!...I noted that Thursfield copied his veteran team meate with hands on hips in that same incident:mad:

Totally agree Weaver ....
When Jackson floated across him as he was wrestling with Hudgton ... i couldn`t help thinking "This is how our forward line SHOULD function"
Richo`s fitness has always worried me when he plays up the ground for the simple fact he is such a big unit and he runs himself into the ground but i truelly believe we look a far better side with a better structure when up plays further out

Gas did ok but it looks like it may be his last year. He looks badly down on confidence.
Richo is very disappointing atm, he still makes the same mistakes he's been making for 12 years. I was also not very happy how he was so friendly with some of the Saints guys like Max (after the game) and Maguire especially since we lost & they were trying to tear us apart. I hate seeing that kind of stuff.

Unfortunately at the moment every time both Gaspar and Kellaway get the footy in their hands it spells trouble for us.The day of the spoiling, unskilled defender are long gone.On Richo I agree with weaver too.It was a team game, great to see him not screaming and demanding the footy in dumb situations.Jackson could become very important in the immediate future.
Also,is there a Hudghton rule? Rubbish what he is able to get away with. Another positive would be that I doubt I have seen Tivendale play a finer game for the club, dips my lids.

Thats not the right assesment on K2...he actually makes pretty good decisions in tight contests and is one of the most courageous fellas to pull on a tiger jumper in recent years...I think its simple minded "guilt by association" with kellaway and poor kicking
Gaspar did OK.
I notice fraser did not kick the 9 or 10 a lot of you were predicying.

Kelleway was good I thought. Got the ball a fair bit, used the ball well when he got it and was as courages as ever. He lifted back to his best last night.

hello
I know the incident your referring to in the goal square, there was no prospect of anyone catching Gherig as the two tigers lost their feet in the contest...Having said that they could have made it look a whole lot better by at least looking to recover themselves and go after him in a belated effort!...I noted that Thursfield copied his veteran team meate with hands on hips in that same incident:mad:I thought Gaspar played generally ok, with a couple of brain fades. He kept running Gehrig up the ground and wearing him out, which is the best way to play Gehrig. But on the incident in the goalsquare, I think that was equally unacceptable to last weeks effort. The 'leaders' in the team have to show a never-say-die attitude, even when it looks hopeless. Giving up on a chase (or not chasing at all) should not be tolerated. Our best chance to match teams is to apply the blowtorch and pressure them as much as possible. Having Gaspar being a spectator while the opposition runs into goal is a very poor example.
