View Full Version : Kane's Leadership
After the match Johnson rallied the troops and had a few words to them :thumbsu: Thats why he is captain...No more needs to be said

Seen that on the TV. He was putting some real character and emotion into what he was saying. Well done KJ, after a pretty steady game, perhaps starting to come of age.
Hopefully he was saying - "you've shown what your true level is, that can't be a one off, that has to be our level every week - not just special occasions. If you can do it once, you can do it every time"
If ever there was a case for a player being involved on selection committee...I think Richmond is that club and Johnson is that captain. Sugar knows what it takes to be successful, and understands that the charateristics required to succeed can sometimes be more important than the raw talent level. Richmond seems to have more than it's fair share of players who are physically capable of being damaging footballers, but just don't have what it takes between the ears or beneath the rib-cage. Quite often it takes a player to recognise those weaknesses up close, and I reckon if he had an influence on selection there might be a few players who wouldn't make the grade. Kane is a fantastic player and captain and will put his heart and soul into being successful for you blokes....but he can't do it by himself.
After saying that...last night was a definite improvement...:thumbsu:

I'm not impressed with him or his leadership. His disposal by foot is questionable, and he doesn't inspire on the field.
I can't remember how good he was at AFC, but lets remember he had a lot of good players around him.

well said once again, we cant have this as a one offbecause we were embaressed, we need to show that heart every week and not need such circumstances as motivation
Johnson will always give his all, but his decision making and disposal are pretty sub standard as far as captains go.

Id like to think that KJ is playing well below his standard right now, Ive been a little dissapointed in his performance and was surprised to see him listed amongst the best...I'll give him benefit of doubt for a little while longer , I know he has better footy in him

what he said was. " (sic) Don't forget that we lost. It's noy good enough to be happy with that performance. You will get clapped off but don't let that affect the fact that we did not win'

Absolutely terrific. He was very emotional from what I saw and thats why he's captain, its rare you find a player that will do things like that, instead of leaving it to the coach. It shows that they're a tight group. Leadership is what makes a captain, which is why I dislike it when people question Johnson in that regard.

I don't think he leads from the front. He's not one of the better players or captains in the league.

he cant get a ball from a to b, so if he is a captain it is not because of his disposal skills....we hope he can inspire but boys he should have got into them and said that was there for a win, not an honourable loss

You will get clapped off but don't let that affect the fact that we did not win'I hope that's what he said pj. A loss shouldn't be acceptable just because we were pathetic the week before. We had a chance to pinch the game but didn't take our chances in the last quarter. Injuries played a role too. But while the Bulldogs game should have shamed the players, the Saints loss should sting them.

I'm glad 'Sugar' rallied the troops AFTER the game, cause he says nothing to the troops DURING the game. He has as much presence on the field as the boundary umpire. We get more leadership out of that drunk guy in the 3rd row on the wing !! oops............that's me
:D
No, to be realistic, currently the Richmond Football Club is led by a field mouse.........so quiet, you don't notice he's there...:thumbsd:

pretty sub standard as far as a player that came with all the bells and whistles as he did. He gives his all, yes, but its getting to the stage where I kind of cringe when he has it. ;)

Me too, and I think he himself is with us. Looked a few times on Friday night to give a handball off when he could have got it moving faster, almost like he didn't back himself.
