View Full Version : Matt Carr and Changes for next week

Two less than average performances, and an uninspiring pre-season.... will we see him playing for the Gummies next week?

Both he and his brother would have been warned after last week - Josh responded and played well; Matt had a couple of good patches, but generally was well below par.

Others in WAFL / injured...

What chance Walker coming back in?
Will Hase be okay?
Will Gilmore get dropped?
Will Cookie be rewarded for his 29 possies and 10 tackles in a losing team?
Has Polly paid his penance?
Is Thornton close enough?
Did Murphy do anything for Souths?

Thoughts...

Matty Carr must be in the firing line. Josh almost deserves a rest just for his first thoughts to kick to the wing, but his first quarter was very good.

Gilmore must be nervous too.

Walker I think needs another week or two; its not a tap opn the wrist its Sowfs til his form warrants re-inclusion and UNTIL someone is out of form etc and needs to have a taste of WAFL.

This play or you pay is long overdue.

Haseby will come straight back in and perhaps Polly has extracted his digit and getting closer to a recall. Shauny Mac is in the side either way. Cookie probably deserves a go his grunt always helps except with Shaun he slows us down a touch too much perhaps.

Whats the latest with Haddrill ?

Josh's tendency to run sideways frustrates the carp out of me. At one stage we were kicking to the Subi end, Josh receives the ball in the centre square, no-one between him and the 50m line, Pav, McPharlin and the Wiz waiting near the goal square.... and he runs friggin sideways!!! What is he attracted to the lights on the big screen or something???? They p1ss around with it somewhere between the wing and the 50, then turn it over and in a freakin flash it's inside the Blues 50.
However, he did enough and won enough of the ball to get himself picked next week one would think.

Gawn I would think.

Well its Peel actually but I agree. Next week it's Peel v EFreo - two clubs pretty evenly matyched I would think, and both would feel disappointed not to come away with a win. Good opportunity for our Peel/Gummies players to really have a crack and put their hands up.

Agree wholeheartedly.

Still a couple of weeks away from a WAFL return apparently - maybe he needs to stop hanging with ChillFknBill and get into more serious rehab! ;)

That's a pretty big call...

who would be our second ruckman?

Out: Gilmore
In: Haselby

I haven't watched the game, only listened to it.

Yeah it is, but the big fella is struggling, and we lose so much flexability and pace with him in the side. If we are going to have a hard line on performance then that must include everyone, no exceptions.
We need mobility at AAMI, so to win against Port, he gets left out or used more sparingly than last night IMO.

Hypothetically our strongest side would include

Drum, Thornton, Hase, Cook, Polak, Hadrill, Duffield, Walker

for

Gilmore, M.Carr, Parker, Johnson, Schammer, Peake, Dodd

Making a team of

Hayden Hadrill Grover

Bell Thornton Mundy

Headland Haselby McManus

Medhurst Pavlich Drum

Farmer McPharlin Polak

Sandliands Crowley J.Carr

IC. Walker Longmuir Black Cook

Playing a few youngsters ahead of the proven and failed players

Johnson and Schammer unlucky. Schammer should be a midfielder and Johnson could easily play CHB.

yea, they are a incredibly frustrating side to support. Its ingrained into the culture of the club - just look what they do to new players etc Josh for instance - bloody destroy them.

Gilmore, M.Carr, Parker, Johnson, Schammer, Peake, Dodd

Drum, I dont think has earnt his debut yet, so being in the best 22 is a lil premature.

Walker, I feel is under pressure to prove his value to the team, Dodds me buddy so theres no decision to be made ;)

Duffield being a rookie needs a break - literally unfortunately.

We could get Longumir to ruck the game and Johnson can pinch hit in the ruck

Sandilands out,ya got to be JOKING ! I had him as one of our best because games are won from clearances and that is one area he is becoming better and better at with his taps. It was when he went off the ball in the third quarter is when Carlton got on top. I also thought he started to become more confident around the ground taking a few marks and even kicked a goal. I would have him resting in the forward pocket when he is not rucking. For a guy his size he does kick the ball really good and very accurate with his hand passing,he is never going to have the mobility of judd because of his size. His marking will improve with confidence. He would always be the first picked for me in our team.

I am surprised to hear Matty Carr get a bagging. I thought I was the only one. He seemed very ordinary, and then good in patches. He was a steadying influence at spare man in defence later in the game and was trying to keep the ball in the corridor. I don't think he deserves to be dropped.

Josh Carr was infuriating at times later in the game. But is he really one of football's great thinkers?

Gilmore just looked out of his league. He had two kicks for the night, and he genuinely has an aversion for a contest.

Mundy also had a very average night. Very out of sorts.

I thought Peake got some really poor delivery and just never quite got in a position to take off. He is not quite in last season's form but he didn't get much game time.

I think Black may be in trouble because he too was kicking wide.

I thought Sandi was fine. He was up against two reasonably credentialled ruckman. But if you think we won't need him need week against Brogan and Lade you need your head read. We have no one to counter Brogan's size.

My guess:
Out: Gilmore, Black
In: Hasleby, Murphy or Polak.

Murph deserves a crack at Damon White.

My tip this week. Medhurst to kick six.

I am afraid i can't agree with you on black, i thought he used the ball extremely well and kicked it long and most times hit his target. you must have had your blinkers on.

A few marks is right. He had 4! All uncontested. For a guy his size thats ordinary. But you're right, he is a good kick for his size - its a shame he only had two of them.
Don't get me wrong I love the guy but he is struggling for form at the moment and is very slow. Did you see him try to get to the contests when he was up forward last night, he arrived about a minute behind his opponent.
Jlo is more than capable of beating Brogan this week and Johnson would kill Lade with his mobility. Brogan is far too mobile for Sandilands in his current form.

Dropping Sandilands is the stupidest idea I've heard.
Some of you really need to get a grip, you are starting to talk out of your backsides, and all this doom and gloom from you lot is making me think I'm reading The West Australian, or worse, listening to 6pr.
Give it a rest.

Gilmore dropped and Polak included. Play Polak at CHF and give the roaming role to Pav.

We needs Pav's influence around the ground.

I think it's absolutely hilarious how you lot can call for Sandis head. The big man keeps getting better and better and I thought he did okay!

Gilmores probably walking a tight rope, and I'll go out on a limb here and say McManus was INCREDIBLY ordinary, regardless of the posessions he gathered on the weekend. Again his decision making is shocking, he had no confidence in going forward, always looking backwards to handball (I counted at least 4 occasions in the 3rd quarter where he did this). His kicking to the forward 50 more times than not will be kicked to the wing of the 50. While players around him quickly run to him and drill the idea of kicking straight down the guts. He keeps doing it week in week out! It's no good someone playing hard football when the whole team structures have to accomodate them and there's no room for passengers!

I'd like to see Haines come back in, Dodd did well last time against Port and I'd like to see him get a run too. The problem is who do they make way for?

Oh yeah and those calling for the Carr brothers heads should watch the replay. Josh made 1 really ordinary blunder, but other parts of his game were sensational, particularly that overhead handball, that was absolutely sensational!

Sandi - doing ok by me.

M. Carr - playing lazy footy, needs a massive wake up call.

Gilmore - Souths are calling.

Johnson - getting better and more confident week by week.

Black - playing better.

Peake - Like him, but ordinary skills on Saturday.

J. Carr - that was better.

I would think Gilmores name is first in the barrel for a swap with Haze. That might be all that happens but M. Carr needs a stick of dynamite where his finger is located.

Assuming Schammer can't play and Medhurst gets rubbed out-
Out- Schammer, Medhurst, Gilmore
In- Hasleby, Cook, Murphy (we need another tall defender, Parker and Grover are best suited to midsize forwards).

That'll really improve his confidence.

Yes it is amazing what people say sometimes, next bozzo will be calling for Bell to be dropped because he is soft.

It is an obvious case of the writer suffering from some type of substance abuse.

Out: Schammer (inj), Medhurst (ridicolous suspension), Gilmore, Peake
In: Cook, Polak, Walker, Murphy

RUCK: Sandilands, Crowley, Bell
FOR: Farmer, McPharlin
HFOR: Headland, Pavlich
CEN: JCarr, Hasleby, McManus, Dodd
HBCK: Grover, Murphy, Mundy, Polak
BCK: Parker, Johnson, Hayden

BENCH: Walker, Cook, Longmuir, Black

Match Ups: If Tredrea plays...Murphy onto him, with Polak a loose man in defence to 2 team him & Lade
Johnson v Lade
Dodd to tag C Cornes
Crowley to tag K Cornes
Grover v White

Effectively we'll flood this game across the centre lines & half back lines, basically setting up as above with space created for Pav, Luke, Farmer, Headland. Of course, Port will look to do a similar thing, which is where the tagging of C Cornes can come into effect & is so crucial to this game, as he is Ports best option as a loose man in defence. Dodd did a superb job on Matty Lappin last week, so his game this week will go a long way to securing the 4 points

Polak could be an interesting way to beat the flood...I think we probably all agree he is just about the best contested mark we have and it could leave Pav to roam a little. Pav uses the ball so well this could have benefits if he was to play on Cornes, like as a semi-loose man in the forward line instead of having a loose man back

Lucky...Medhurst? I thought he played a pretty good game v Carlton. his aggression across half forward was spot on & some of his contested marking was good to.
