Hmm, I believe our "fairweather friends" at H'berg have been very much behind this particular move.

Barrot is looking at purchasing in grey water to water Warringal and adjacent H'West grounds.

Looking at playing games as previously mentioned at variable times including night fixtures.

Again, HFC motives are more political than helping out their dear DVFL colleagues.

Interesting to see if it gains any traction, although I think I would rather sit a year out than have it all come down to this!

way things are going at the league the season could be a one day royal rumble. League is asking clubs if they would drop the reserve competition and play double headers at a league chosen venue with the clubs to take a 5 way split including the DV on canteen and bar. Can you imagine the day? 12pm game NH v DC then the 2pm game Mont v GB.
Most clubs would have to fold the next year
already there are poachers on our forum asking for players to come to geelong and its going to get worse.

No club in their right mind would want to go down that path....

Its not too hard to imagine which grounds would be the ones allocated to play the "blockbuster games", or any games for that matter.

Either another "what if" rumour or the most ridiculous suggestion to ever be suggested. No 2s footy.... You may as well close the door on 5 or 6 clubs right now.

great recruiting drive by greensborough just post ads on every thread chasing anybody wanting to play. alot easier than targeting specific players that may be required.
Now gone through and deleted after copping a number of sprays. are they doing it hard to find players themselves. check out the quote on rdfl thread last page.
Stick to your DV thread McGoo.

They sound like they are developing a pretty professional set up down there. Can't see anything wrong with how they've gone about things. It's a hard act competing with the top clubs in divi 1, but they seem to be putting things in place off the field to give themselves the best chance possible of improving.

JIMMYS THOUGHTS

Heidelberg will still be too strong in division one and the only side that will rattle them will be Bundoora - Hally will kick his bag of goals most weeks and Power will also sneak in with his 3 and 4s - If Shearer is still playing he will also dominate and trew will still be his tough self - heidelberg give me nightmares:eek: - cos always been a whitewash when i play em -
West Preston will be the wildcard i think as they have a good side and alot of good young kids on the up and will only get better - Fab will guide them in the right direction and Morrison will add alot more to the fwd line along with baker ( if hes staying ? ) - Grainger needs a good year for them to be up there but i dont think they will come close to a bundoora or heidelberg - time will tell - North Hdbg will be a good unit too but will be without puffer - big loss - fkn BIG MAN LOL - Not sure who they have picked up and who has left but id expect them to be in the four along with mont who im also not sure who has come and left - Diamond Creek will be a good unit and i like their run. them and west will be evenly matched i think when it comes to matches won at the end of the season - Epping im not too confident about they seemed to have a not so good year last year and have not so many good young kids coming through - theres a few there dont get me wrong but not as good as the kids at west - diamo - eltham . Epping picked up peckham from hursty i think - theyll be hoping he kicks a bag for em most weeks and i hope he can ( great Bloke ) - Eltham and nct pk will have a good year but dont think will make the finals - Macleod will fight it out with epping for the spoon i think but its early so u cant predict the future so what ive said in here some will be right and some totally wrong

Cheers Everyone - Brad

They started the year with a bang, then injurys caught up with them midway and when those blokes returned they hit their early season form again.

We havent cleared anyone down there yet, but we have 2 or 3 training with them I think. Im not sure who they have picked up in the off season.

DVFL SEASON DELAY IT'S OFFICIAL
The drought delays the DVFL season

The start of the Diamond Valley football league season has been rescheduled to May 5th 2007 after league delegates last Monday voted for the new starting date. If significant rain falls during February and March the grass will need time to recover and it is unlikely that the grounds would be fit to play upon in April, however, the situation will be monitored closely. Water restrictions need to be relaxed and that can only happen if we get sufficient rain in the catchment areas.
The changes to the fixture to make it all work will see the division one senior competition play all 18 matches so that each club plays each other twice, the Queen’s birthday weekend and the second split round will no longer be byes with the preliminary and grand finals scheduled for the same weekend as originally programmed (Sunday 16th and Saturday 22nd September)
The drought draw will see the division one first and second semi finals played on the same weekend.(8th and 9th September). The division two competition will see a May 5th start to the season with the last three rounds of the original draw deleted. The division two finals will be played using the same timetable and dates as originally planned before level three water restrictions came into force. It will mean division two clubs will meet each other once for an even draw. Players, sponsors and patrons can enter into contracts with DVFL clubs knowing the program ahead for season 2007
The new draw will be on the DVFL web page later today
The junior/under age draws will be released after nomination day on February 26th

It's a good call by the league administrators and the clubs. They are being realistic about the current situation and it would have only been two months before the original start date and in the current weather conditions there is no way the season could have started given the insistances of the councils to stop clubs using their grounds.
I think other leagues who have been procrasticanating over making a decison may now follow the lead of the DVFL.

I dont think there is need to be negative about it all. the start is only 2 weeks later than last season, and last season we played through the long weekend anyway. I may not agree with playing on the long weekend but at the end of the day we need to keep the 18 rounds if we can

Credit where it's due. I think they have done the best they can with a sh ! t situation. By re-scheduling those three rounds it looks like we will still get all rounds in and that is the most important thing.... hopefully we get a bit of rain so this is not delayed any further. Well done to club delegates and DV for sorting out the most practical solution.:thumbsu:

Good move by the Valley, its early enough to make alterations to the schedule and in the overall scheme of things, not much difference to the original set up. Playing through Queens birthday will be interesting for those who usually go away for the long weekend.

Wasn't just the DV call- was voted on by the clubs & apparently there is a contingency to the motion that the start of the season is 5th May onlny providing that the 14th April is unplayable.

Given we can't even train on our grounds at the moment, I think this is a sensible way to go.

15 games for 16 teams means you play each other once, ( you cant play yourself) and last year at the 15 round mark there were 3 teams level on 8 wins for the 6th position. So 9 wins may guarantee a finals spot in divvy 2

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Mes think that Think Big is being very small minded here. At least the DV admin and the clubs have bitten the bullet and are being more realistic than some other leagues about when the season is likely to start and are not leaving their clubs and supporters hanging by an invisible thread that the season might start some time between now and Many. At least teh DV clubs can plan accordingly not like clubs at other leagues who don't have a definite starting date.

in my humble opinion,
surely 15 games is better than none at all.
if you can look at your draw you might see that you get away with only playing the top 2/3 sides once only.
if people are that worried that the season starts 3 weeks late just think how fit you will all be,some might even last the season out.

The only thing is that Trevor Barrot has something to prove now and is spending up. They'll be un beatable which is not good for the competition. I know down at panther place we are a few years away but were becoming very financial and think that we could rub shoulders with them in a few years if there still around. I dont think its over though another case will be put to football victoria at the end of the year for a transfer to the EFL.

gytm spoke to thomastown coach dean sinclair on the weekend. He was sounding cocky after a few frothy ones at the ping telling every one how they have the div2 flag in the bag and theres not a team in div2 that will get near them, with all there div1 recruits the names he was dropping would be very handy in div2 . Not the same bloke since going to thomo, hes turned into a man motivated by the money, not for the love of the game. He was also sprukin about how he still has a bit of pull with the dv umpiers seening he used to be one.

Just interested has there been any ramifications since Heidelberg have been forced back to play in the DVFL for the 07 season?

Not much so far but it's still early days..
just a bit of hate mail - Barrott has applied for permits to convert the visits rooms into the club's PO Box to deal with the influx. Also, now all DV officials have to wear blue hats.

considering what they have said about the league....

What is it that H'berg have said about the league that hasn't been said by nearly everyone on this forum?

You can safely say that because of what the club did, the admin @ the DVFL are getting a swift kick to the nuts and we'll all benefit from it this year.

i will keep my ear close to the ground for more info & relay them when they come to hand.
fair to say its probably fv directive.

:D You are a superstar you are.... I heard you were in the votes on saturday, they were very impressed with your performance. Whats with having to put your hand up to ask a question??? Bit rough I reckon...

Yeah had a sip with Deano yesterday and he is as keen as anyone to get this season underway. He was the last decent umpire we had in the Valley... maybe he could give them a bit of coaching too ;)

Can you confirm who these players are who they have picked up???

GYTM, has this effected his relationship with Lalor seems that he is taking a lot of your players???

yeh everyteam buys talent... but none as much as ur club!
but anyway good luck to use this season rat.

As far as I am aware Bundoora nor any other team (all of which give great support to their U/19's) have had to pay anyone to play under 19 football. Maybe if The bergs put a fraction of the effort that they put into buying ex AFL players into developing an U/19 squad, then maybe they wouldnt be having as much trouble getting local Diamond Valley kids to play for them.

#2 water update
Please see below some Banyule updates for you regarding grounds and Stage 3 water restrictions:

* Current water storage levels for Melbourne are 37.5%

* There have been a couple of reports of Clubs training at sporting grounds (not their home grounds but other grounds within Banyule) during the week. All clubs needs to ensure that they do not train at any Banyule Sporting Ground, including facilities down at Chelsworth Park. Your assistance in making sure that all club coaches and players are well aware of this situation is vital. As previously advised, clubs not adhering to this will jeopardise their seasonal allocation.

* Due to the continued lack of rain this week and with no rain predicted next week, the ban on pre-season training will apply for the entire month of February. Grounds will be re-assessed for club use at the end of February. Of course should conditions change during February we will assess the grounds prior to the end of the month.

I wouldnt have a clue who Thomastown have picked up mate, and even though we have had a few blokes train down there no offical clearances have been put in or passed through.

Deanos is a legend at our club and his relationship with the Lalor boys is as good as its ever been.

The old man was interviewed my the DV news last night coz apparently Latrobe Uni had to empty a dam they had there for some reason or another and the council has grabbed all that water and it will be distributed on to cricket grounds in the council (that will be used for finals) Apparently 28000 litres a night for a few weeks. The cricket grounds will be in great condition!

However, i'm not sure what grounds will be recieving it. I know Plenty will, so that's good for eltham. But that is all i know! Hopefully Mont get a couple of finals and they put some more water on that ground. Diamo i suggest would coz they will have B and C grade in finals. Read more in the DV news either this week or next.

Plenty have also done a deal possibly with Eastlink and are recovering left over water from the dust suppression trucks on the road construction site. They are then dumped on the oval which is already on the comeback.

Benny will be good, great bloke to have a piss up with if the Portsea training camp was anything to go by, gets along with the boys well and obviously is a good player. And Ace has been at watsy for 8 years and has probably been our best player while I have been there. Looking forward to a good season.

G'day Bossy. Gibbo's been training the house down. But so has everyone else at this time of year.;) He should have a thumping year in the forward line though. There must be areas where all clubs who have met with him so far, that he feels needs addressing. His final report is not due until the end of March apparently. Will find out more Thursday night at the meeting no doubt.

Maybe now the Diamond Valley can start going forwards, by taking a new and more MODERN! approach.Having said that these men did serve the valley for a long time and there services should be appreciated. There are alot of people who have the knowledge around the league to be able to
start pushing our competition forward.
Anybody can see that besides H'berg and Bundoora last year that the comp is sliping on and off the field.
So I have to agree football probably is the winner.
P.S I these blokes weren't made scape goats theres probably some other heads that should roll.
