Premier - Lalor
Runner Up - Lower Plenty
Goalkicker - Puffa
Medallist - Kinnear
Div 2 premier : Parkside
R/U: Lalor
Best in comp: Brad Hockey / Darren Gresham
Goalkicker: David Pagliarallo
Devilish i am an optimistic man, But not THAT optimistic.
BTW i think Millsy or Diver would win B+F b4 those two. ANd Dallas would be leading goal kicker b4 Pags.
Div 2 : Premier W'Sea or McLeod
R/Up : W'Sea or McLeod
Best in Comp : Will Box by a country mile if he is fit.
Goalkicker : Brandt He'll kick 10 every week he play as home. They enter their frd 50 at least 55 times in a match, He only need to latch onto 10 of those from the goal square. Too easy.
Div 1 : Premier Heid by about 9 goals.
R/UP : Eltham or Monty
Best in Comp : Who knows.
Goal Kicking : Dean Grainger. Now West have picked up many more talls, he will take the 2nd or 3rd best tall backman. And he doesnt have Baker taking goals from him now.
Wooden Spoons : Div 1 : Nth Heid The slime will beat them eaisly.
Div 2 : Fawk Park. No recruits, only losses and retirements.
Biggest DV story : Rd 2 Nth H vs D Creek. Huge blue breaks out. First on the ground. Later in the crowd. Game abandoned. Next time round never b4 scenes of boys in blue presence around ground.
Will Shaun Ryan and the other boys get cleared back once the DVFL season commences. I noticed they all had reasonable games for Echuca United last week.
I think you will find Gibbo will play more up the ground then just hang around the goal sqaure.
Also heard that Bundoora were supposed to host a practice match against St.Marys from the Geelong league this weekend, but have been told they can not use their ground have been orderded back off it from training. They asked my club if they could hold the game there, but I dont think St.Marys would be to happy with the extra 1 hour drive.Just speaking to a mate of mine, apparantly Aberfeldie have secured a practice match with St Marys this week...J&B can you give me an update with the progress of Ricky Frost???? Will he play, has he been training???? Cheers
i know you love putting bundoora down giveya and i, myself, wonder what they are thinking down there but i will say that the bundoora versus stmarys match is on this saturday at keilors ground in green gully rd . i was with the umpire last night who was being given the directions to get there by umpires chief. 1 pm saturday. bundoora is off the ground for 2 weeks as the council has put down seeds and wants time for grass to get hold. also on bad side for bundoora is that another big name has gone for a clearance , matty carmichael.good luck to all for the coming season, lets get it going .

Any of you folks interested in fielding a team? :p
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=314342
Regional Leagues Fantasy Footy League?
Seeking interest in players for a Regional Leagues fantasy footy comp.
This is a) not real footy and b) not pick-a-team-of-AFL-players footy. Its even lazier!
All you do is express interest, I'll do the rest via QOOTY, a crappy random aussie rules simulator I created years ago and have been trying to bring up to speed. FAQs here : http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75728
I'll try to collate a league of teams that are representative of the more popular local leagues here, so I need raised hands from the posters. I won't make up any names, I won't allow any sudden new arrivals.
So either post here or PM me if you want your Bigfooty alter-ego registered for a team.
Hopefully we can turn some rivalries into some even more potent partnerships!
I'll probably aim for starting the season, say, end of next week. I MAY have to be an inflexible prick with okaying a team and treating latecomers.
For this season, hopefully the inaugural season of an ongoing league, all we need are 20 players per team. There is already a Fantasy league, more closely based on the AFL clubs, at Bigfooty, here : http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=30 - its into its 7th season and has developed a bit of history! There is also another league at another footy forum site, this year with only 3 teams but had been as strong as 5 clubs in its 3 year tenure.
So get in touch if you're interested. Remember you don't have to do anything apart from dob your Bigfooty nickname in for a spot. Please tell me which club/league of regional footy you would prefer to be aligned with (please state both).
We'll see how we go. If it doesn't happen, ah well, if it happens later than I hope ... I'll still give it a burl.
Onward lads! ...

yeah it was very optimistic by Devilish but not sure why u think Millsy and Diver would be a better chance of winning it seeing as Gresham won 1st BnF last year with Hockey coming 2nd???...I do agree that the goal kicking would be out of Pags & Dallas though as they usually do kick a few for the Devils

Interesting that Pakside get a fair run on here. Usually its divvy 1, or divvy 2 clubs that have a host of ex divvy 1 ppl in them. Ala Watsy and Thommo. Millsy n Diver will take out the B n F hands down. As long as the following 2 occur. They both stay injury free, and they both play around the midfield, back flank to forward flank. Then again, maybe the devils have picked up sum new talent ?? ??

if Brad Hockey stays fit and plays anything more than 12 games he will win it by a mile...Diver will be lucky to finish top 5 IMO
my prediction on players from last year would be
1st Hockey
2nd Gresham
3rd Millsy

Have heard that Rob White quit the previous night and the committee have decided to fold for current season. Is there anyone who was there who can confirm.
If so Division 2 is starting to resemble a Junior Season with only 14 games for each team now. Hopefully Wallan don't do the same when they have there meeting next week.

announced last night before training proper had strted that coach had quit
club decided not to field a senior or reserves team for 2007 as there were not enough numbers
club will still field u/19 side and have juniors running along with superrules
quite a sad state of affairs going from a prelim final to not being able to field a team
before all the rubbish starts flying around re the club and the reason why they won't field a side
club is debt free
club has its highest sponsorship numbers ever
clubrooms are being extended and renovated
off field things are going well
u/19 have good numbers
superrules have great numbers over 40 each night
it all came down to the number of players who walked out on the club.
without knowing each and every players thoughts, it was due to the fact that the some players wanted a particular players mate to coach, the club said no as the club wanted a long term comittment (3 years) not a short term comittment (1 year)
some players crack the sooks so they leave, convince their mates to leave also
numbers are low, so players who are left start looking else where, it all snowballs.

The new OPEN clearance rule has caused this. And it will contiye causing it too.
Divvy 2 clubs are now more than ever in danger of losing their top players. And there is nothing they can do about it.
Imagine if Reservoir were able to reject their clearances by using the 'Required PLayer' reason. They would still be around 2007.
Clubs now have no power, but are expected to provide everything for the players and league.
PLayers have all the power - which is good in certain respects - but will now hold the CLUB to ransom.
Or better yet, leave and take their mates with them.
Clubs need a financial hi-roller to back the club. Otherwise, they will not be able to keep the good players.
The large gap b/n divvy 2 and divvy 1 was huge before. In 2-3 years it will be the size of the Grand Canyon.
If it isn't already it will be full of rejects and has-been.
Isnt that wat the Super Rules is for?

I feel sorry for Reservoir, Watsy knows what its like, fortunately we never had to fold though. We had plenty of players who stuck around to keep it alive although not the best at least they kept it going. Of course the majority of the better players did leave. Its funny now we have people wanting to come back and we had about 8 reservoir players training with us last night who are keen to play. As I said I feel sorry for Resa, but everyone poached our players when we were down so I think its only fair we accept these boys especially if they are any good.

Any truth in the fairly strong rumours that watsy are paying twos players $50-$60 a game thats why you have been able to get (poach) alot of players from other clubs??
I remeber going to a fundraiser day and chipping in money to keep watsy afloat now they are hurting other clubs. Short Memories!

I hear what you are saying Force, and i think we all agree that Wats deserve what they have worked all so hard for - A chance at having a fairdinkum crack.
It is sad to see the demise of the once mighty two blues, but of course that is Football.
If you do pick up a player or 2 from Ressa, that is good for your club, but the conumdrum is, could this affect those who have stuck by your club through thick & thin and/or some of the younger players you have recently picked up, by way of displacing them from the Team??
You could (and I hope you don"t) find yourselves in a situation not disimilar to Ressa, where a number of your players become disgruntled and in turn want to move on!!!
Of course If they are any Good, they are most welcome at Eltham. ;)

Completely untrue. Would hate to hear how far-fetched your "weak" rumours are.
Idea was brought up by 1 commitee member but was quickly thrown out. Reasons being both financial & not wanting to reward mediocrity. That figure you mention is close to the base payment for a SENIOR (First grade) player, reserves receive nothing.
How do you mean "hurting other clubs"?

Same time last year we had the constant predictions of the end of civilization because of Strathmore recruiting players. Greenvale does the same with extras and its just good recruiting. Wheres the whinging about the money these blokes get? Wheres the geniuses telling us the club will be in B Grade in a couple of years? What about defending all those "home growns" who are missing out because of the mercinaries? Just proves that last year the critics were playing the man not the ball.
Funny, Strathmore win the 2006 premiership and are actually having a winge about people talking about how much money they spent. They may or May not spend the same money this year who gives a f##k enjoy it.
All your prized recruits surely don't just come for the cash surely they must enjoy the surroundings of the club as well?? (I hope).
If Greenvale, Douttas and Abers hapenn to recruit well dont go looking for people to bag them about the money enjoy the healthy rivalry that is making the EDFL such a strong comp.Don't look behind just keep moving forward or you may get caught up with.
Anyway it's not so much Srathmores money people worry about it"s the arrogance of SOME fo the people on the band wagon.:thumbsu:
Hmmm, seems strange that Jim Beam would have a go about Wats (possibly) spending money and yet seemingly condones it in a EDFL post.

Hiya. Its a simulated footy league. A computer program plays the season randomly. Each team will consist of 20 players, these being all your Bigfooty personas.
Each match creates commentary sheets, so you can stir each other up about one pole-axing the other or kicking a bag on someone else, and there are plenty of stats kept.
You don;'t have to do anything, but most find it amusing to play along with the sim and stir each other up through posts here.
We then get an invite to a special party and are asked to try various mysterious substances handed out by a selection of elite AFL Footballers.
The last man standing wins.
Hope this explains better?

I feel sorry for Reservoir, Watsy knows what its like, fortunately we never had to fold though. We had plenty of players who stuck around to keep it alive although not the best at least they kept it going. Of course the majority of the better players did leave. Its funny now we have people wanting to come back and we had about 8 reservoir players training with us last night who are keen to play. As I said I feel sorry for Resa, but everyone poached our players when we were down so I think its only fair we accept these boys especially if they are any good.
What are these players like skill wise? Always good having numbers at training - i would have thought though that Ressa's top players from last season have gone elsewhere however - McGregor, Breeding, O'Meara, Keyes, Pretty. Although, they did finish 3rd, so must have had a bit of talent through their line up.

Sorry J&B,

BTW, i have been in a very good paddock over the summer and have litterally been swimming in green cans. So hopefully your form is in top shape as well.

I'll always have a crack!!
But - you might had me covered before you went in the paddock... I'm conceding that this might be an uphill battle ;)
You're saying this is what we will win by Turtz??
Bold - but I can see it. You heading out?
Not this week. i will be there for when we beat heidelberg by 50 goals the week after though! :D

i have seen a few of the names that have put in for clearences from reservoir to watsonia
there is 1 decent player i know of who is going across
there will be a few that over estimate their ability and looking at the number of players who are getting cleared to watsonia from div 1, they are just going to be bit players in the 2's at best
not sure who the full 8 are but once it becomes clear who they are, it will be easier to comment on it.
it fair to say thay have not picked up the cream of the crop as most of those players have gone to div 1, other comsp's or retired.

As you said mate, " Don't look behind just keep moving forward or you might get caught up with"
Hmmm it's a bit different a 2nd division club rumoured to be paying twos players after they were struggling to survive not long ago than Strathmore, Greenvale, Doutta stars,Heidelberg Bundoora, Montmorency
If it had been true I simply was going to Question the tactics.
I would like to think my money wasn't going to be spent on reserve players more like the Gibsons etc.
Heart and soul players make the club and if you can recruit players to take you to a flag and up into div 1 with the heart and soul players staying put the club will go forward in a big way.
Hows life at Eltham going had a fair crack at my Brother Nice sign on fee Plus $450 a game but once he saw the other cattle he decided to stay at a club that would at least play finals think Maylin needs a reality check.:thumbsu:

Dont worry were not spending money on reserves players just like Whitelinefeva said. The only money that would be spent is on good players like Gibson for example. And we are definately still looking after our heart and soul players!!

Xcllant all the best for 07 will be watching how Gibbo goes with much intrest!!!
Now that that rumour was "SQUASHED" for me I know Watsy are obviously doing something that can only move the club forward.
some players crack the sooks so they leave, convince their mates to leave also
numbers are low, so players who are left start looking else where, it all snowballs.
THe new clearance rule may not be perfect for all but it atleast it provides an even playing field, everyone knows where they stand and it eliminates the restraint that clubs have put on players in the past (mine included) by forcing players to stay put because the rules allowed it, this created a situation of players either playing begrudgingly, standing out for a year or ridiculous demands of payola for release. The reason for the change to the current rule was because the old restrictive rule would not stand up legally (restraint of trade). It`s sad to see any club go through what Ressa has gone through but I`m sure that there is more to this than just resentment at a coaching appointment, every club has it`s achillies heel and perhaps in Ressa`s case it was there inabillity to foster a loyalty and commitment to the club. Any club that allows a power base to develop within the playing group is asking for trouble, a case of the tail wagging the dog.
No one wants to see this happen - from someone living in Kilmore Id hate to see the same thing happen to Wallan but two conversations Ive had tonight are eluding the same will occur Tuesday night if the huge support required dont arrive at their special meeting.
C'mon Wallan fans get behind your club and keep the doors open.

I have heard the same stories about Wallan, hope they get the support they need and keep the numbers on the track, they were looking good last year and looked like they were moving in the right direction, but there is some serious unrest if you lose as many players as they have. Good luck to them.
i hope the similar stories i hear about Parkside and Fawkner Park are going to be wrong as well.
Bring on round 1 :thumbsu:
I am extremly familiar with the restriction that the old 'clearance' system upheld. I have been to appeal, and know that its difficult recruiting players, b/c of the appeal process.
Now it is open slather. The club with the most money, will attract , recruit and poach the best players. Turn into the English Premier League. ala CHelsea and Man U.
ONly positive is that NOW the player is in control of where he wants to play.
Disadvantage - Clubs can't hold players - The weaker clubs will fall by the side and fold, Teams in DVFL will become less. Divvy 2 will be full of Has-beens and juniors. Heidelberg and the next big money spender will always be at the top of the league.
Postivies and negatives. All thats gonna happen is we'll start to lose our good players to a better run league. IE Eastern Footy League.

Had a look at Northcote Park v Macleod today. Macleod had at least 8 out of the grand final side from last year with Puffa being the only big in. Northcote Park rested several players early and came home well to just get over the line by 5 points. From what i saw today either Macleod are well on the way to 1st Div or Northcote Park are in for a very long year.
Northcote Parks players were s h i t scared of Puffa. I feel sorry for the full backs from Parkside, Heid West and the like. He'll go close to kicking 20 against them if an injury or report doesn't come first.
Also a whisper one N.Lynch is far away from a return!

Watsonia got beat by Riddells Creek by about 10 goals. Had a couple of players in what looked like Reservoir socks who would seem to struggle in Div 2 Senior football. If it was their first game with them then that might be a reason. But overall just another practice game, you woud need to ask the club as to what their thoughts were about it.

Heidelberg, just got over an undermanned Panthers today.. ( i think it was around 15 maybe 16 ... goals!)
Some very impressive (and expensive) cattle running around for the Bergs. Murphy had an unbeliveable amount of stats , nearly all receives, but he used the ball incrediably well. Not sure exactly how many he collected in all, but I honestly wouldn't blink an eye if someone said it was 50.
Eltham will take a lot away from the game, and it was very pleasing to see our young brigade coming on. A few inclusions of our more experienced players should see us be very competitive through the season.
As for Heidelberg, well I can't see a team getting within 10 goals all year. Very very very impressive is all I can say.

Mate, the old system was no impedement to Heidelberg. If players want to go to another club because of the dollar, then new or old system good riddance. As for players going to better run League, the League you mention has had the same clearance system for a few years and in case you have not heard those people who have got it to where it is are now instrumental in guiding the D.V.F.L. (N.F.L) to a position of strength. also clubs that linger at Div 2 level for an amount of time will always be in danger of losing there better players/juniors to a higher level and as sad as that may be it is a reality of all competitions. On a brighter note the club we played today in Hurstbridge have attracted 20 plus players to there club this season and by all reports are not offering big money but a good environment and a one of the best grounds in the comp, so it is possible to survive and thrive in this comp, even at Div 2 level.
Also heard today that Fawkner Park will announce they are folding, sometime this week.

How much did puffa kick Bobby. Anyone got any other results from practice matches.
Puffa kicked 3 and missed a few sitters too. Rested for the 2nd half.
Watched two divvy 2 matches yesterday.
P.Hill Vs Parkside. P.Hill were being toweld up in the 1st half. Parkside seem like a very fit and fast side. SMall down back, but quick, strong in midfield, quick elusive in forward line. Caught last qtr of ressies match. Will Box (7) played 2's. Couple of Ressa guys running round in P'Side two's. Parkside also had a couple of what have been their senior players playing 2's. Maybe their numbers are strong?
Watsy were very dissapointing in what i saw of their 2nd half. With all the pick-ups i thought they would have at least produced something better. Maybe a lot of better players out? Force?
The opposition R.Creek, were a team of Dwarfs, but definetly made watsy look 2nd rate.

Coming back from an injury. They just want to ease him into it . He would still be an interested observer in macleod as his mates still play there and his old man still plays active role in the club.
Brutal, I am fully aware of the happenings within the DVFL commission, and the previous and current clearance system.
I am in favour of the player being able to dictate where he/she wants to play.
My point is that it is going to be a huge up hill batlle, for the stuggling clubs. The clubs that have survived year by year. Maybe not winning games, maybe not playing in divvy 1, maybe not playing in finals. But having a big old supporter base. Are full of the dedication from volunteers who service the club year in year out. Providing a good environment for players and families.
I could list a huge amount of pro's / con's of many things, in this case the clearnace change.
As could i regarding clubs pro's / con's for attracting and keeping players.
Ala H'Bridge = location , history , commitee , small finacial base. to name a few pro's.
Call me a pessimist, i prefer a realist, but there are going to be quite a few tough times ahead in the DVFL (NFL)
Clubs will now need those players contracts signed prior to each season. And a 1 yr signature will not suffice either.
Clubs may need to ask a junior 17 +, to sign a 3 yr contract. I just dont like the way things are heading.
And i am open to listening to the postivies of the changes.
As to Heild - I could name 4 clubs that in recent yrs have rejected players clearances - taking the maximun to appeal, cancelling out any future clearance for that yr to that club.
Until each and every club get a financial backer - they will struggle to survive.
I am wonerding if this will have a postive or negative effect upon Ammo league?
Also heard Parkside U/19 have folded.
Another avenue for guys to play footy, closed.
Compare the two = 1) A strugging Divvy 1 or Divvy 2 team, low on finances , no financial backer.
They build the family aspect, comraderiship , freiends / mates feeling to attract and keep players.
Day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year the clubs with finanical backers continue to approach and poach these stuglin clubs numbers, eventually depleting their stocks, and forcing the club to fold. Ala Ressa - Fawk Park, and who knows who's next.
2) Old Parade F C. Are a recent living example of the above scenario. They promote family club, clean football, mate/freinds aspect. Better than any DVFL could ever do, seeing the players have attended school together. No finacial backing. DVFL cashed-up clubs continue to approach their players, and eventually get them.
Do their Pro's help them survive? NO. Due to the Ammo section ranking, Parade have been able to drop Sections (From A-grade -to B -to C -Now D1 - almost in as many yrs) and continue. And all this from a club that has the best recruiting ground a club could ever want. Parade College.
A divvy 2 clubs has no where to go, except bottom of divvey 2, then fold.
Ressa didn't even have to be at the bottom of Divvy to to fold. Success couldnt even keep the club aloat.

Outs included:

there needs to be some guidelines in place
ie. you can clear 5 players out without restriction
every player after that, you need to have a player cleared in before you can clear 1 out
note: figures used are just example
would stop clubs having large numbers of players walkout. dvfl need to do some research into their clearences to see what figures would work.
Is is true Watsonia were missing 13 players who would usually start in the 1s?
That's correct! The best players were sitting out on saturday. If we had a full strength side it would have been a different story. The coach just wanted to have a look at some new blokes especially those from reservoir. The majority of the players in that team were practically a reserves side.

really disapointed that I was not able to be there...
However full run down from the boys:
Some very promising signs and our best hit-out so far. Balwyn were close to full strength (minus Harford).
Plugger kicked two and gave away a few....
Curtly Swino was very good on a wing...
As explained on the Mont website - Gutto was apparently unstoppable.
No specific news on the recruits (apart from Plugg)- but McGough has been good in the previous games.
Also really, really important that Grimes is back on the track..... looking forward to having a look at H'Berg next week.

Lower Plenty beat Hurstbridge by 5 points on the weekend in what looked a good game.
Yeh was a good hitout. Very competitive, which is what you want at this time of year.

Are these players definately returning to North Heidelberg once the DV season starts, or staying up there? Must be very tempting to stay with Echuca United, given their impressive start to the season and the expectation that North will struggle this season.

Does anyone know if Baker played for West Preston on the weekend.
Unsure If Bakes played on the weekend, but have heard Ice that Adrian Baker signed at his old stomping ground of Broadford last Thursday night.

DIVVY 2 WATCH - Watched Kinglake training last week and then saw them play against Kilmore on the weekend. They were creamed by more than 13 goals. Kilmore, however, are going to be a very good side and, from what some of the supporters were advising, Kinglake weren't at full strength.
Looking ahead to this weekends round of matches Lower are playing Watsonia and I might wander over to see how both teams fare.
