It would seem that they desparately need another backman, why just get 3 or 4 rookies?

this i really do not understand!!!!

i understand that there are money constraints, but still.....

by the way, i went down to moorabbin and for the 1st time bought a reserved seat!!!!

I wonder how many memebers we will get?

do you think it will be a lot less then this year?

and my last question

i have a feeling that the AGM will be very very heated this time, alot of people are still angry, don't trust the board, and don't trust an inexperienced coach, what do you think?

Why?? Let me ask you: would you not like to have more potential Brett Moyle. Stephen Milne & Chris Olivers?

They have all been products of our rookie list, there's a much better chance of getting a 100 game player than some of the crud on display in the pre-season draft. Name me another quality backman on offer in the pre-season draft?

No money constraints, we are one of 6 clubs eligible to participate- others have constraints.

Congratulations! Good move, thank you.

I don't know, I hope we don't lose too many.

It will be less, but I don't think ( I hope anyway) that it will be a lot less.

Ah well, turn up and we'll find out :)

i would have thought collins as a backman would be good. but i suppose in the last year we have drafted 3 good rookies but we had a few that we did not draft either. i still would have thought that maybe there would be a quality under 24 backman like collins.

as to salary cap, what i meant was that Grant had stated that the football club was trying to stay at 97 or 98% of the salatry cap, and this might affect them looking in the preseason dtraft rather than a rookie, as a rookie would be cheaper.

He's not a key backman, and the last talented but injury prone player we took was Robert Powell....I'm a bit skeptical about the pre-season draft due to the low success rate....I'm with the club on this issue. Leave the cap as low as possible to attract quality in the future.

Fellow Sainters,

It's time for us saints to grow our own sainters instead of reusing hacks from other club.. no matter if they're talented.. saints for life.. strength through loyalty... as all the 'key performance indicators' would point to home grown boys being the best.. it's what our club needs

Well I can tell you that St Kilda has picked up a good young player in the Rookie Draft called Chris Jones.

He played under Kenny Sheldon at Echuca last season, and really excelled at GVFL level in some key positions, his got height, atleticism, and is good considering that he used to be a Volleyball champion, and only took up footy two years ago.

And Kenny Sheldon has lost none of his coaching skills since he went to Echuca, and he will be a big asset when it comes to junior development, which were the hallmarks of his success this year in bringing the flag to the Murray.

thanks for that info wade. i'm extremely happy that kenny has returned to moorabbin and has already had an influence by selecting a promising 'bush' footballer. chris jones has got his opportunity by being in the right place at the right time, hopefully he has the attributes to step up to the top flight.

youth is definetely the only path to follow...we have always had and produced champion players.Loewey,Burkey and Harvs aren't gonna be on the paddock much longer so the smart thing to do is get the best young talent available and hope that the maestros can impart some of their skill and wisdom and keep the tradition going. We may have only one flag, but we have the equal most brownlows...fact of our ability to produce exceptional footballers. Grant Thomas isn't as inexperienced as it seems...he's been around footy for a while and he understands people...if he can get the best out ourplayers consistently then we're gonna be very competitive and down the track we may even have a crack at another flag. GO SAINTERS !!!!

welcome crush, agree 100%.

it is strange that this time last year there was a huge amount of hype surrounding the club with the appointment of blight and the recruiting of gehrig and hamill. all our expectations were high and we thought that our fortunes had changed for the better and we were bound for the finals. the injury toll, poor skills, the blight fiasco and the thomas process made this season the worst i can remember as a saints supporter, and i've seen some shockers.

thankfully that year has now ended and we can start to look at what our club will deliver us this year. our expectations are much more realistic and no one in the footy world expects us to do anything at all. with a good run with injuries we will be competitive in most matches and as long as the young blokes show continued improvement i would be happy with double our wins from last year.

however nothing would surprise me, we are the only side in the comp with the capabilities of making the 8 or winning the wooden spoon, hopefully for us die hards it is making the 8.

expect the unexpected, is a very apt slogan for our club.

go saints.. :D
