After Google now holds usenet posts for the last 20 years i thuogh id look up what was said about our beloved Port Adelaide back in those times.
THeres a quite a few interesting posts...ill post a few of them here for you all to read:

Port Adelaide are into the Grand Final next Sunday against Glenelg
after eliminating North Adelaide in the preliminary final on Saturday.

Sorry about not posting last weeks results but I nicked off to the
AUUG conference and didn't get a chance. There is no truth in the
rumour that I didn't post them because Port lost :-).

Over in Adelaide the Black and Whites completed the major Trifecta.
The Port Adelaide Magpies, in a top performance, snatched the SANFL
title from Glenelg. With Swan Districts winning the week before in
Western Australia, Black and White teams have won all three major
Aussie Rules titles.

I can't supply too much more information stats wise as Victorian
papers have no time for anything except Collingwood at the moment.

None the less, it was a top game with a heap of incredible goals.
Hodges kicked 7 goals ( I think ) to break the SA goal kicking
record of 151 goals in a season by 2. The kid looked gone for all
money after a bad collision just before half time. To his credit,
he came back, limping, and still played well enough to break the
record and be one of the best on ground.

Port Adelaide has now won three SA Grand Finals in a row. More power
to them.

Not that i can work out at the moment Chris.

Ill keep posting some posts from there if anything overly interesting (or abusive) shows up. Looking at the posts from 1990....there really wasnt much hatred towards Port on usenet over the AFL bid at the time. There was a few posts from Victorians.....one guy wrote "whats the latest news on Port joining the AFL?? Does any one know how many other SA clubs are gonna make the big jump and join the AFL next year?" haha!

I didn't discover news groups until late 1997, when I upset the Cows followers by lampooning their club song, even though they'd just won the flag :(
