What i saw tonight was RUBBISH.
7 minutes of chipping a football around a ground to hold off your opponents because you are too scared and are unable to win a contested possession is bull********.
Chipping it from CHF to FB IS RIDICULOUS!!!!

Its unaustralian!

The sooner the AFL implement the rule a backwards kick is play on, the bloody better.

After the game, many radio station's had a crack at Carlton for not maning up, but if West Coast couldnt do it in last years grand final, how the hell are our young boys meant to.

SYDNEY, u are a discraseful football club.

PLAY SOME REAL FOOTBALL!!!!!!

Mate, we are the only ones to blame... yell all you want at Sydney, I did too.

But don't you realise, we should have played man on man. Each player should have stood next to a Sydney player.

Of course they will kick it to a free man, any right minded person would.

The Carlton team are the only ones to blame, we did not man up.

Sydney play possesion football. You can't lose if the other team can't get the ball. They don't like to kick to contests they're going to lose - unfortunately, they're out of touch at the moment, so the only contests they are confident to win are Hall and Goodes, and they won't kick long to anyone else...

At the end of the day, last years premier beat last years wooden spoon by 7 points. A better team than us could have done 3 things and won the game easily:
- make each possesion a contest by physically checking players closely; we did this after quarter time well, but by then the horse had bolted
- winning the contests and stoppages - probably broke even after quarter time, but when the game was on the line we didn't get the clutch plays
- Looking after the ball when we get it. Too many missed targets, poor decisions, poor execution of basic skills. Sure, they ran the clock down and held onto the ball, but every time we won it we gave it straight back to them, which didn't help

A decent team who did those 3 things would have won last night by 7-8 goals, especially given Whitnall did such a fantastic job on Hall. Lets not worry too much about what Sydney do - we need to focus on what we can do to win next time someone tries the same thing against us

I must say I felt exactly the same after the game, but after i'd had a chance to think about things, it was just a simple thing that the Carlton players play man on man, although that would have had to come from the coaches box.

I just couldn't believe how many times Lewis Roberts-Thompson was allowed to stay unmaned in our forward 50, meaning that Fev had at least 2 players on him at every contest.

However, to only lose by 7 points to last years premiers shows that we are heading in the right direction.

After watching that game the one person in our side that needs to man up is Scotland he has no accountability what so ever, in the first quarter, which by the way is where we lost the game not in the dying minutes, Scotlands direct opponent was Buchanan who set up 3 of Sydney's four first quarter goals because Scotland was nowhere to be seen so Buchanan had time and space to hit a target inside 50 lace out, it is just not good enough from a senior player to let his man run loose and set up goals at will. After that Bentick went on to Buchanan and negated most of his influence with some tight one on one contests that didn't give Buchanan the time or space to place his kicks into the forwards arms, a great example of how to play accountable footy from a young man that should be learning lessons from senior players like Scotland not teaching them how to play accountable footy. Not good enough Heath Scotland and it is far from the first time either.

You can't blame Sydney for what they did. They don't give a crap about how attractive their game is. They just came for the 4 points. Seriously, why didn't we man up? what could we possibly lose by taking a chance and playing man on man footy?

Last night will be remembered as the night our flooding bit us on the butt.

I really thought we might have changed our game plan after half time and just go out there and play man on man football. Sure we had a better second half, but it just wasn't working the way the game was being played.

Hopefuly we'll learn from that when the next time we play them.

We don't seem to be fast learners when playing Sydney. What's that, 9 losses in a row now?
