Again.
If he isn't picked next week (or more to the point, if Daniel Ward is picked ahead of him) I will scream.
Master Bater will be a superstar.

Zebs won 104-67.
This from WJ on Demonland: "Best of the Demons Bate Lamb Holland P Johnson Dunn Jones - Motlop and Smith did very little."

Goodbye Ward. Don't come back.
Does anyone else think Jamar was alright today?

I think Bate isn't ready yet. We'll stick to our game plan - ward is a champ not chump. ND is the super coach. We are a highly skilled side. God I'm good. Neal.

Love to see Bate get a run. Showed plenty in the pre-season. Ward would be the obvious one to go, though I reckon he has a go but should be a depth player now. I've got no problem with the way Daniher eases the young blokes into the seniors and I think it dpends on the individual as to how they get thrown in. Time seems right for Bate to play.
Also, Jamar is looking more and more comfortable with more gametime I reckon. Consecutive games is giving him confidence I reckon and hopefully he learns to throw his weight around a bit more.

Agree. He is going for more marks and throws himself in when the ball is in dispute.
I think he and PJ could be a better combination than expected.

Interesting report, as Bate wasn't even named in the best players after the game. It's not a case of looking through those biased glasses again, is it?

People that went say he was fantastic, remember the paper usually gets it wrong with the best players.

True, but then if he played as well as everyone is saying, then there is no way he could possibly be over looked.
I hope that SS and others are correct though, I just question the validity of it as there has been no mention of his game in the paper, or in the best players.

I wasn't there, but the official best lists are often misguided (and I reckon a little biased towards non-AFL listed players).
I remember Sylvia had a monster game last year (kicked 7 or 8) and wasn't even listed as BOG. So yeah.
But it could be a case of Demonland going a little OTT, either way Bate has to be picked next week.

Hi All,
I went to the Box Hill v Sandy game on Sunday out of protest against Neale Daniher dropping Brent Moloney (a guy who is hard at the ball) and leaving the receiver and player who seems to not want to put their body on the line Yze in the team and of course to see how Beamer and a few of the other boys played in the twos. Beamer, Chris Johnson and Nicholson did not play in the Sandy seniors (so Danners may have not played Moloney due to injury or given him a rest, but that did not appease my anger in Yze being still in the side).
Of the rest in my opinion, Matthew Bate was clearly bext on ground, he ran hard all day hit targets when kicking and even dropped back to take a few solid marks in defence. I felt like saying to him when he walked off the ground see you at the SCG on Sunday. He should have been in the best players for Sandy listed in the paper. I was shocked when I saw Holland as BOG (he played well, but was not best on ground but in the best 6 for Sandy).
Of other players to report, Godders as per usual tried hard all day, Phil Read only played half a game as he got concussed, but he did provide a highlight with a high mark (must have been getting lessons off Robbo!!), Dunn didn't do much, but looked quite quick on a lead. Danny Hughes also showed promise including an excellent mark in the third quarter.
Something that amused and depressed me was the 'form' of Nick Smith. He dropped a simple chest mark and ended up being put in the Ruck when Paul Johnson needed a rest (Johnson played a decent game too) on that form I don't know why Smith is still on our list. Interestingly Cameron Hunter played quite well for Box Hill, but he is so skinny and I can see why he was too skinny for AFL footy.
Nathan Jones didn't do a great deal (played about half a game), but he did show me why he is a great talent with an excellent snap in the last quarter for a game.
Please let me know if I have left anyone out, happy to give you a report on their form, but Matthew Bate should make his debut this week as he was extremely impressive at the Box Hill Oval on Sunday.

Thanks for the report. Whoever did the paper report must have either received wrong info or not know who Bate was, as it seems they have got it wrong.
I really wish that Nick Smith had of come on for us, but the poor bloke has had so many injuries that the game is beyond him now. I remember a few years ago watching him play, he could take some grabs and was a big kick. It's a shame he hasn't been able to develop.
Could Bate be a KPP or is he too small for the role?

Seems to me to be more a running type player such as a wingman or half back flanker. At the moment I think he is a bit to thin to be a KPP (I know this sounds funny given that we have Rivers and Ferguson in those roles), plus he seems to be a better runner and kick than Rivers, so I would probably play him on the wing.....

Where is Bell at at the moment?
StingaArmstrong

Bell has a groin strain, will be tested this week.
As far as the best players named in the paper, I read a match review of the game on the Age website which included these comments from Mark Williams
"Our back line was outstanding today, with Holland, Lamb and Biddlecombe teaming really well together and (Ezra) Poyas, (Chad) Liddell and (Matthew) Bate all in our best. We're very solid in the back line and they really strangled the life out of the Box Hill forwards."
Holland Lamb and Biddlecombe, were the first 3 named in the paper, with Sautner (kicked 7) Johnson (dominates VFL) and Summers (???). So Bate was still amongst the best, just not named. It was team effort apparently, so you can't name everyone.

Sorry guys for the late reply. I'm pretty sure that Neville played in the twos at Sandringham as he Gianfanga, Newton and Bode all sat in front of me about halfway through the Sandy seniors match, so I can't report on how he played. I also add that Buckley played for Sandy and looked to be a good prospect.

The person who wrote the article may not have even been at the game. You can NEVER take what the paper says as the best players as gospel. Green is named in our best just about every week but would you have him in the top 5? or even 10?

With the AFL reports, they sometimes just look at the stats and say "yep. Green, 23, best". Which is pretty stupid, because often Green would have 20 pointless possessions, and only 3 that go anywhere.
As for Bate, he has been sensational for 3 weeks now, which would ensure any of our senior duds an immidiate spot. Why it hasn't for him, I'm not sure. Probably because Ward is just sooooo much better.
If the selectors bring in Godfrey or Read or Ward into the side, while the likes of Bate, CJ and Bell are injury free, they should be shot!
