MELBOURNE
B: Wheatley, Carroll, Whelan
HB: Yze, Rivers, Brown
C: Green, McDonald, Sylvia
HF: Robertson, Miller, Davey
F: Bruce, Neitz, McLean
FOLL: White, Godfrey, Johnstone
I/C (from): P.Johnson, Pickett, Bartram, Holland, Warnock, Ward, Bate
IN: Godfrey, P.Johnson, Holland, Bate
OUT: Jamar (foot - plantar fascia strain)
NEW: Matthew Bate (Eastern Ranges)

Quietly confident for this clash, IMO we have improved a bit every week so far and this could be a break-out game. If we give a consistent 4 quarter effort, we should win.

Sydney are a good team though, and will be keen to add to there first win of the year last week.

Jamar won't be dropped, he has been good enough in the rock to keep his spot. Plus it's been said on radio Bizzell will return... in the VFL.

I feel better about this weeks game than last week, and we tend to play pretty well on the SCG. But I'm not fooled by the Swans' slow start, they are ALOT better than they are playing. I'll be interested to see who we play on Barry Hall too.

Won't be able to watch the game as I'll be watching my brother play, but will be taking a radio with me! :thumbsu:

Well, to tell you the truth I think we'll win this game.
You might find this a stupid statement but I honestly think Sydney will miss the 8, or at least struggle to make it. Lots of solid players, no real stars, no real flair except Buchanan, therefore no matchwinners (except Hall)
Last game was an improvement, hopefully we improve again and with more time for people like Brock, Bruce and co we should hit some serious form based on last week.
Bate would be a good inclusion for this week, I think he could play well against Sydney's style of game.

Agree on Jamar and if Bizzell isn't playing I expect only 1 change. Bate in for Ward.

Tonight we only get the extended bench named. Obviously Bate, Moloney and probably Bizzell will be in there, interesting to see who gets in. Bring back phil read ireckon

Demons:

Out: Jamar injured

In: Godfrey, Paul Johnson, Holland and Bate

That was posted on the main forum, dont know whether it is official.

Obviously PJ will come in then if Jamar is injured, good to see Godders in there.

Godfrey should have been shown the door. ******** they drag out the same old hacks year after year.

I like Godfrey, hes not the most talented or skillful but you know what you're going to get. 100% commitment.

If only some of the others could follow his lead.

Well if Jamar is injured then bring in Bate and PJ for Jamar and Ward.

It is amazing that Godfrey has been named.

Holland will come in, i'm sure of it, cant remember too many games hes missed in the past couple of years as a pure omission.

On the back of his VFL performance, he will come in for Warnock.

Godfrey named in the 18, that ladies and gentlemen is closure, he will play. :)

I/C (from): P.Johnson, Pickett, Bartram, Holland, Warnock, Ward, Bate

I'm guessing PJ, Pickett, Bartram, Bate

Godfrey is a joke.
The MFC has taken a backward step in this decision.
I am fuming.

My bench(heart): Holland, Bartram, Bate, Pickett.
My bench (head): PJ, Pickett, Ward, Warnock

Holland and Bate in I hope for Jamar and Ward.
Then watch for Robbo to have a blinder with Big Dutchy blocking the opposition for him.

Barry Hall is possibly the best player in the league.

Adam Goodes is a Brownlow Medallist.

That's two more than we have.

My god Godfrey will play. He is not in the best 35 players at the club, unbelieveable. Sure pick players who will try, but most of our young midfielders will be just as hungry as Godfrey. I look forward to Godfrey's funny possessions, hopefully for the last time.

Why don't they just come right out and say it.... we want Bryce Gibbs and we're going all out to get him. :D

Godfrey. Mwahahahaha.

20 Apr 2006, 23:55
just because he was selected in the 18 there, doesn't mean he will definately play. Though, he probably will. If I had one game in which to play Godfrey, it would be against Sydney. He should do well (well as well as possible for him) against them.

Hopefully Bate comes in for Ward and ofcourse PJ for Jamar is the obvious one. Leave Warnock in so Miller doesn't play in defence. Holland in the team might give ND less reason to keep Miller up forward so I aint a big push for his selection.

I personally think Godfrey deserves 1 more year. Give him a fair dinkum go this year and if he doesn't perform then we can reconsider. He is a 1 %er player and goes in hard. If a couple of players from melbourne started doing that we would become a better side.
My bench would be Godfrey, PJ, Pickett and Bate.

Well, I think I said except Hall. Goodes hasn't been in good touch, you know how incosistent he can be.
They play an ugly style of football and recently they've been playing this ugly football in an ugly way. The only problem is our flair and attack could be choked by their defensive tactics. We should be okay.
After watching the footy show last night I know Sam agrees with me. haha
I also think Bate will play based on form and I think Gary Lyon talking him up might also be a bit of a hint.

I personally think Godfrey deserves 1 more year.
I'd say a few more games perhaps. I think we're just wasting our time otherwise, denying guys like Bate and Jones some time in the middle to find their feet. I'd much rather see us start to develop those guys than holding on to Godders and Nicho etc, aka "The Stale Brigade"

Bartram_Class
21 Apr 2006, 15:09
Godders and Nicho have their role sorted out pretty much, Godders will play against Sydney, Nicho against Richmond.

The rest will be against Port Melbourne, Williamstown etc.

Injured his calf apperantly.

As for the person who says Godfrey deserves another go.... yes, lets bring Grgic back while we're at it.
Give it up already, he is an average tagger, has the disposal of an under 9 and the football brain of Carroll.

Godfrey suddenly becoming a good option is as likely as Nick Smith finally becoming a decent footballer. It just ain't gonna happen.

goDees22
23 Apr 2006, 12:57
Yep life membership, i really think that we're gonna find a way to lose this week as well, but the signs were good in the second half last week, we are improving, we just need to start playing the direct style of footy that we were so good at at the start of last year

God I love the national anthem before the Dees play.
Cmon boys, lets pull it together.

EDIT: Trusty old Godders just cost us a goal. Rather than grabbing hold of the ball on the wing he tried to tap it to whoever, miss-hit it, turnover, goal. Not only can he not kick, he is too soft to take a hit. Disgraceful.

i wouldn't go as far as saying he is soft, but Bate would've been a much better choice in the team. Ooops im sounding a bit like Robert walls

Half time, we're up by 5 points. Once again we are showing we can play well at the SCG and are a good match up for the Swans. The game is fairly even, but the umpires have been shocking both ways (we have received more free kicks but that doesn't mean that we are being favoured necessarily).

Best players so far have been White, Yze, Pickett, McLean, Brown and Rivers I would say.

Neitz is off injured with a groin/quad problem and may not return.

Canna7
23 Apr 2006, 15:44
They just confirmed Neitz is out for the rest of the day and McLean has the trackies on and is sitting on the bench with an injury which is a big loss.

Well we won, yay!

Whoever selected Godfrey should be sacked. He directly cost a goal or 2 and nearly a couple more. Shocking skills and a shocking game, if he gets another game for Melbourne this year it will be a disgrace.

Yze has proved today why he must be played up forward. He can be as soft as he wants there but will at least kick some goals in the process.

Injuries to PJ, McLean and Neitz will hurt. If Jamar doesn't come up next week at least who will be the backup ruckman?

At least Bate will surely get a game as long as he gets through Sandy today uninjured.

Long way to go before this season is even partly back on track. Lastly; White sucks in the ruck.

Marns
23 Apr 2006, 17:04
Thank god for that. Talk about a much needed win, and we earnt it. Especially with a 1-man bench.

Those injuries are going to be a nice old kick to the balls, but hopefully we can overcome it.

Byron played his best game for us so far, I'm stoked for him.

Nathan brown has some beautiful, beautiful hands.

EDIT: Brad Miller had a very good game on hall, but PLEASE let it be his last down back, for our sake.

What a relief to finally record a win. Our season is back on track, now we face Kangaroos, Geelong and Hawthorn at the MCG I think so we can even our season up again.

Firstly, disgraceful umpiring today. We probably got a little bit luckier in general, but there were some shocking decisions all round. That 50m against Rivers was a joke, that umpire should be dropped. Then again Barry's two free kicks against Robertson's were perfectly fair and legal so he can feel a bit stiff there too.

Up forward we were always going to struggle as soon as we lost Neitz and Johnson. Barry was all over Robertson but it was guys like Yze, Bruce and Davey who stepped up and scored the goals. The midfield was good, it was a very even battle. In and under we matched them I thought. Pickett was probably our best midfield all day as he put his body on the line every contest and used the ball well. Bruce also played well but Johnstone and Green had very quiet days. Down back I thought our talls were very good. Miller shut down Hall, Carroll was tight and Rivers had another great day.

So good to get a win on the board. That is 3 years in a row that we have won in Sydney. Maybe we should re-locate?

Sandringham 4.4 9.9 12.10 .

ExTasDeeMan
23 Apr 2006, 17:13
Miller, you are forgiven.

Johnson of the Paul variety, outstanding hustle and great work in the ruck. For a ruckman to chase down his kick and put the body on the line was awesome. Davey fantastic, Rivers a rock, Bruce playing early medal form like last year and Pickett showing some great form.

Pi55ed off at the umpiring decisions like the River's 50 and the downfield free. Also the Barry free.

Edit: Its good to see Yze in the FP - need the opportunism.

I don't think our season will be 'back on track' at the very least until we have a positive win-loss ratio. 1-3 after 4 rounds is crap. Season on life support.

Canna7
23 Apr 2006, 17:21
But it's not as bad as our 1-3 record seems.

We played a shocker against Carlton, the wooden spooners from last year.

We played one good half and one bad half against the Bulldogs, currently top of the ladder.

We played three good quarters against Adelaide, minor premiers and premiership contenders.

We played four good quarters against Sydney, the reigning premiers at their home ground.

We know have the Kangaroos back at our home ground - a team we usually have the edge over. Then two more matches against Geelong and Hawthorn at the MCG.

Hopefully next week we can get Moloney and Bate in the 1's and godders back to where he belongs, although he is a great trier, thats all he is. Bit harsh on Whitey Sylviasaint, he had 24 hitouts but Chambers was beating him near the end i suppose. At least he is kicking goals these days. Great win, we didn't deserve to lose imo. Miller was good, Hall got 1 goal from a crao holding the ball decision and 1 from a worse downfield free, so he really only got 1 real goal, well done Milsy, now get your asre back to centre half forward. Rivers was great again, never get injured again Jared. Everyone did their bit today, hopefully McLean and Neita will be right, McLean dominated the first quarter does anyone know what happened to him? Anyway, great win Dees, the pressure is off now, hopefully we can get back on the G and back to our free-flowing best against the roos
