5. Crawford (Haw): best game of the year for Crawf. Was a great effort

4. Clarke (Haw): Same with Tim, probably not as much polish as Crawf, but workrate and effort was there, and decision making was excellent

3. Lucas (Ess): Always plays well against Hawthorn. Kept Essendon in it, and his kicking for goal and leading were first rate.

2. Fletcher (Ess): Great job on Croad. Conditions suited defenders but he still got his hands to spoil Croady on most occasions.

1. Smith (Haw): Good spoiling and marking in defence. Worked well with Jaccobs in an undersized defence.
