Just voted five minutes ago.

I went for 'This Mess We're In' - PJ Harvey & Thom Yorke.

I might vote again next week for Augie March or any other songs that I like.

If I win, I'll take ya to Jamaica, Mandy! ;)

Thanks Macca, but it ended up being a waste of time. AFter looking through the 443 numbered songs, and 12 late additions, I still couldn't find anything worthy of a vote. :(

I hate JJJ, but as a service to the community I voted for Roll On.

I saw about 8 songs I liked in the whole list :(

The good songs on the list were generally by Living End, Something for Kate or REM

Got to agree there, but I would have voted for The Living End anyway considering they are one of my fave bands.

I voted for "Reminds me of me" by The Monarchs.

Interesting to see The Celibate Rifles get a run in with "I shoulda". I am going to vote for it this week however I am sure that it was released in 2000 and may have even been in last years countdown. Still it is a cracking song and well worthy of my vote.

Not a great deal of quality there, but for what it's worth I voted:

311- You Wouldn't Believe

Eskimo Joe - Who sold her out

Sum 41 - Fat Lip (no, i didn't hear this song for the first time on triple m, same as smooth criminal, i already had them on CD)

**** I hope Reel Big Fish release another album soon.

Ooohhh Harsh.

My criteria is for voting is simple:

"What songs don't I have on CD yet?"

And I think I will be casting about 50 votes accordingly haha

Yeah well there were 455 songs I don't have on CD, and there's a reason I don't have them... :D

Alex Lloyd- Amazing

I never listen to JJJ but this song is played on MMM and SAFM as well.

Please, please, please don't let Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm be number 1. To me, this is merely the 2001 version of Pretty Fly (for a white guy) - a song that appears to have been saturated as the token mainstream "alternative" song.

It was OK the first few times, but now it really *****s me!

Actually, isn't something missing this year? Isn't this about the time that Powderfinger release another soppy power ballad that remains fresh in everyones mind and romps in number 1?

Some of my favourites for this year are:

Parabol / Parabola - Tool
New Born - The Muse
19-2000 Gorrilaz

I guess these songs will only end up getting 1 vote each! Last year I voted for Charlie Big Potato - Skunkanansie and I get it was the only vote it got!

CJH,

Amen to your comments re : Alien Ant Farm.

But please, don't encourage Powderfinger. I'd rather turn radio into a more whine-free zone. ASAP.

Also, I thought you were quite the fan of At The Drive In. Didn't quite knock those other songs out of the way?

CJH

Maybe I could vote for some of the At the Drive-In stuff but that was released in 2000! I'm not sure what the rules are wrt when songs are released as singles (which I never pay attention to) or as albums.

To me, a single being released is merely a marketing ploy, something that I have no real interest in. Either the albums rocks or I don't buy it!

I saw the video clip for Invalid Letter Dept. on Channel V the other day. It had the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end!

The song (and video clip) is about this town in Mexico where the female nightshift workers are routinely murdered by a local serial killer. This killer is basically allowed to do as he pleases as the police have no interest in bringing him to justice. It smacks of a cover up with the killer seemingly known to the police.

The point of the song/video is to bring awareness to this injustice. The video clip itself is presented almost as a documentary, with subtitles providing the commentary and the song itself in the backround.

It really is quite chilling.

(O.K., maybe I will vote for that one as well, even though it came out last year! :D)

At the Drive In's song was one of the many I voted for, grouse album!

I couldn't even recall who I voted for, but I seem to remember Living End, Weezer (who I would love to see get a top 5), System of a Down (must be a good chance for Number 1, it's a grouse song).

Ummm...also voted for Jebs, Frenzal Rhomb, Smashing Pumpkins.

But Darky, I have a feeling Smooth Criminal will be Number 1 - what else will beat it?

I will beat it over Lee Simon's (MMM boss) head if I get a chance. Of course it will be #1. Zillion copies sold, but has the novelty/alternative/yet still popular thing about it.

Not a bad song but I don't want to encourage the buggers.

19-2000 - Gorillaz

We should all pick a song and all vote for it. If we manage to organise enough folk, we can knock of Smooth Criminal. Really, we will be doing the world a favour!

Hope so....that would definitely be a worthy song. Weezer have a very big fan base....remember when El Scorcho (not really a strong track by their standards) got number 7 one year? Everyone I know who likes 'alternative' music loves Weezer and the new album, so one of their songs should do pretty well.

Surely there is some phantom Powderfinger B-side that will get it!? :D
