simo u seem to still know quite a bt bout this club, even though u know longer have much to do with them, r u sure your not thinking bout coming out of retirement.......or will the landscaping busniess keep u too busy:)
Retired for sure Sherman, had a function down at the ground and had a look around abit. not much you can to with a sprinkler though, you need to water the ground every week so putting some sand over it is the best option.:thumbsu:

MIght have to re-evaluate the predictions for next years ladder with Trentham and Maldon recruiting so heavily.
That Lloyd that Avoca has on the clearances is their Ass. Coach yeah?

I can give you the low down on the Avoca Recruits boys:
Daniel Lloyd - Has been appointed assistant coach under Tony Bellenger. Although I've only seen him train a couple of times he could prove to be a handy recruit. Has a bit of size, good pace and good skills. Could be useful through the midfield or perhaps as a running back flanker.
Aidrian Pilgrim - I'm sure some of you know Pilgs. Has also been appointed asst coach, which is a good thing as he has pretty close ties with alot of the Avoca boys and is also good in the set plays/tactics dept. He adds a bit of height to our line-up as well which will be very handy.
Jason Hunt - As Sherman pointed out he will be a junior player, not sure if he will step into the senior ranks this year as there are alot of good kids coming out of the juniors.
We've got a couple more recruits in the wings, but it seems that the policy on this thread is not to disclose any potential recruits until the clearence has been lodged. I'll stick with that....:)

Thats good for Pilgs I reckon! He played a bit of footy in Ballarat and around the place at a higher level so has enough experience to be able to take on that role and some young blood never hurts.
Its not cut and dry policy but its sound policy I believe ;).
Pilgrim will be a handy forward for Avoca yes. Hunty's brother leaving Dunolly is interesting too.
I heard that Avoca signed a player from Wedderburn by the name of Alex Gordon- Cooke last night - the clearance should be lodged today.
Smasher might have something positive to say about this top quality guy. We will have to wait and see.
It was interesting to hear that the Dunolly president rang Bellenger's place of residence and asked him to refrain from approaching Dunolly players.
It wasn't that long ago that he was told by the Dunolly club that his services were no longer required.
As we all know -the old saying - "all's fair in love war and football."

have seen pilgs play a few times b4 but not enough to form a genuine opinion of him,i have heard some handy reports of him, but how will he really stand up this league, no doubt his height is very handy and i would imagine he is fairly mobile but was wondering what impact he will have on a game when its in the balance? is he a match winner or just has a solid all round game?

dunolly still have some fairly handy footballers out there, for instance, brett coombes, dale thomas, and prob paul edwards would all get games in seniour teams at whateva club in this league. but yes the talent certainly drops off after there top 5

Well it certainly wasn't $$'s. Pilgs neither asked for nor was offered any money by the Avoca Club. Just a mates thing and a chance of sharing in the Avoca Club's generous incentive scheme.
It is pleasing to see that he has been extremely well accepted around the club and along with Bellenger and Lloyd, has made a big impact already.
The Avoca club seems to be getting things right off the field and these boys are taking the club to another level on the field.

Doesn't surprise me with Pilgs into his second season with Avoca cricket club that he has ended up there. I too have heard the reports that he is an underacheiver so we will wait and see. I am re-evaluating my opinion on Avoca this year all the time. They may yet push up towards finals again depending on who else they gain and retain.
Was confirmed to me today that Elliott from Rovers is definately going around one more year. Unfortunately he wont crack that ever elusive flag. Quite a number are leaving still, perhaps not as many as first thought but still a large chunk of their senior brigade. Money is tight there so I'm led to believe so recruiting is difficult.
Looks like Rovers and Royal Park will be making way in the finals this year for possible 2 of Talbot, Avoca and Maldon. Hopefully the local teams can keep the heat on the 2 top Bendigo sides.
I'm wondering if Natte had approached Pilgrim as I know height is something they crave but have gone some ways to fixing that up this year. Having seen some of their recruits this year they seem to have satisfied that need and look set to give it a big shake this year.

Fair crack on the pipe Wonker, Bellenger for 1, is a big $ man, I know he asked for big $ and know exactly what he told my club and another the same price just to play. So to coach it would be more, this isn't peanuts i am talking about either. well all i will say is that i find it hard to believe thats pilgs wouldn't be getting payed a handy sum aswell, seen as though he is in an assistant coaching position. haha fair enough , but what u have to realise is that when talbot was in it's glory years , there was something like 5 sets of brothers playing and and they made up bout 12-14 of the starting line up, so big money wasnt needed and most of them were locals or within 10 minutes.
and money wasnt a real big issue back then, wheras in the last 5 years it has sky rocketed, and going on talbots recent form it shows that even though we have a very loyal playing bunch u cant win premierships these days without dishing out some coin.

Interesting. Approximate Heights and type of players please King Rich.
Pilgrim would have been approached by Natte but the $ would not have been what he wanted, he won't be the star player, or star recruit (From the sounds of it) and he knows the type of games Natte have to play in order to do what they want to do.
He will be a helpful player at Avoca and should contribute in getting them back into the finals. He's got some challenges ahead of him and I'm sure he won't let Avoca down.
It is a fact that he has been on big $ down near Geelong and Horsham Saints. He could be playing for the love of it at Avoca. Enjoying your football is what it is all about, so you've got more chance of doing that playing with your mates than accepting $300 a week in an envelope. So Wonker might be telling the truth.

Wonker always tells the truth. Would take the lie detector test at any time. Just name the time and place, set it up and I'll be there. It's called transparency. Something that doesn't exist at some club's.
As for Pilgy's girlfriend. She will be a great asset around the club - top person.

im a good egg no doubt that!!! lol.
the thing is, money in football will always be debated but what u have to come to terms with now is that ,times have changed and just like everything else you have to accept it whether u like it or not, it's part of life, yes we can debate whether certain players are worth it or not but at the end of the day if a player is capable of earning that money or the club is willing to fork it out then that is their decision.
there is no doubt there is alot of money to be made for players out there and i suppose you cant play football for ever so u may as well make the most of it why u can, to ease the pockets a little

Got this from a Wedderburn bloke for Shamui and the Avoca boys regarding this Alexander Gordon-Cooke that is coming out:
"Started out as a CHB in a struglling Burn side in 2002. Then due to work commitments has played limited footy since then. Is a great tap ruckman in the reserves and filled the gap in the ones when needed.
Very Injury prone!
Not sure how strong the ruck department is in your league Rich but if he can train i'd say he would be a senior ruckman out there!"
So he sounds like he will be valuable. Ruck was an area that you needed to improve. No match winner but serviceable nonetheless.

Monty take a look at last years Senior Talbot side and tell me who go paid. For starters about 14-15 of the 22 have come through the juniors at the club. The majority of the rest such as Jay Cameron, Gavin Webber, Ben Heathcock etc have been at the club for many years. We have a very young side with plenty of local boys. No need for money there. Unless you can come to me with some proof I win and you lose.

Talbot have been training Tuesday nights with Natte so we've had a look at a few of their recruits. One new bigger player is their new assistant coach. Prob 6.3 ish and fairly athletic. Good hands, has played at a higher level and will go well. Another one they had who is close to over the line is prob the same height and very very athletic, moves well, like the look of him. With these 2 alone they will have got some more height.
They have picked up a couple from the Maryborough area also. I'm not gonna tread on any toes and name names on here.

Yes your club is on the Junior trail now, & it is a good thing but like people are saying you have to payout to get guy's this year they don't come for the love of the lovely Botters club. So by me saying that currently we dont pay out much you are now acknowledging that this is correct. That's all I was asking. I doubt we will be paying significantly more this year also. Most recruits will be coming coz they want to play under the coaches and with mates.
Enough about this anyway Monty..... Must be getting tiresome for people to read! Lets move on.

Also Kingrich if you log onto that website there may be a club guernsey or 2 left blank and you could tell cfscores the club colors he doesn't have
maybe the MCDFL is up to date on that score and perhaps it's only the LVFL and NCFL which needs 2007 club colors added.

ALSO KR I had occasion to go to the Talbot market last month. We go regularly in the summer months.
Had a look at the Botters' ground. Had no idea you were like K Flat with a caravan park abutting the ground
What are the facilities like on match days I could swear we saw folks going in and out of the facilities we imagined would be change rooms on Talbot home match days
Looks like the ground advertising signs as well as the buildings could do with several coats of paint, for starters, to smarten the joint up a bit.

The position etc of the caravan park is not ideal but provides a valuable income to the club. We are looking at ways to expand and provide a suitable facility for the town but also ensuring we maintain the income.
There are a few working bee like days that have been planned which will be happening before the season starts to smarten up the place as the ground and surrounds has been neglected of late you are right Jock.
Our rooms etc are fine and the visitors rooms are probably the best in the comp. The Cricketers also use the rooms on Summer weekends and any number of committee persons etc could have been down there in and out of the rooms. No idea mate.

Hey Rich, any chance you could do me a favour and get someone to fill in the hole behind the goals at the town end? I rolled my ankle in it last season and spent the rest of the day watching from the bench, probably the main reason you blokes beat us that day :D :D

Haha I actually remember you hobbling around the boundary line quite clearly Shamui!
Perhaps if you stayed within the playing arena this wouldn't be a problem?? LOL
I think there is a sewerage pipe up there or something. It has been there as long as I can remember anyway and many ankles have been rolled there at training.

I know Brook are playing Wedderburn at Brook in one....
No idea who we are playing...... We played Moyston-Willaura and Dunolly last year and those 2 games were, for want of a better word, a bit of a joke.

I'm with Thoroughbred here.
Think of it this way. There are 8 weeks to go until the season. We are training Monday, Tuesday and Friday nights.
If we pull a Tuesday night match it would probably mean that we lose both Monday and Tuesday sessions. With 8 weeks to go, that is an unacceptable loss of training time.
If we were to play a Saturday game, we could move our Friday session to Thursday and have 3 training sessions in the week and still get the practice match in.
I think a team should dictate when they play their practice matches. You could screw 2 weeks of training up for a couple of low intesity matches.

Maybe low intensity was the wrong term. But I feel the night series matches lack the seriousness of a real game. People seem to roll up 5 minutes before the game as they finish work late and etc. Where as on a Saturday, people turn up early, do a proper warm up and treat it with some respect.
If its such a low intensity match, what's stopping you from training on the monday??
Perhaps the Lightning premiership, similar to what the BFL run, would be a good replacement to the current night series set up. Have all the games on a Saturday maybe with the grand final to be decided under lights that night. That way there is no interruption to a teams training regime during the week

Will Princes Park even be able to hold the Night Series this year? I'd prefer to play 1-2 full hit outs on a Saturday for no real reason expect personal preference. Practice Matches in country footy are a little overated IMO. No one takes them seriously, coaches just want to take a look at their players to make first round selections easier. Plus with hard grounds etc no coaches want to put their players through too much too early anyway.

Yeah but they can plan their intraclub and the majority of the practice matches to take place at a day and time that suits them.
We've got guys coming from Ballarat, Melbourne and etc. If they have to make a 6pm game on a Tuesday, many would have to take the arvo off work.
A Saturday game works much better for our team.

IMO it is important to have a mixture of full hit outs and intra-club games. Ideally you'd want to have the intra-club games first so coaches have the ability to move players around at will and get an idea of who plays well where. Coaches also have the opportunity to practice specific set plays in a game situation by having the ability to stop play and explain what is working/not working. A full practice match after that would give the team the chance to fine tune leading up to the first H&A game.

No idea Roo Fan. A couple of the Bendigo posters may be able to shed some light but they didn't have too many good players last year so there is a high likelihood he is not super, I may be wrong though.
Travis Nolan from C/creek....whats his story? How's he go?
Seen him a couple of times when I went over and watched, he's fairly tall but pretty lean guy who played mostly as a Ruck at Creek. Not sure how he will go in a better league.
Clint McLeod has also jumped off Creek and put in a transfer to Maldon.
Both Maldon and Trentham are doing a hell of a lot of work this off-season.

Does a player have to put in a certain number of clearances before they can appeal a club's decision?
How and to who is the appeal lodged?
Is there a deposit reqired when an appeal is lodged?
Where is an appeal held?
What people make up the appeals board?

Once a clearance has been knocked back 3 times you go to appeals. All you do is call the clearance secretary of your league and they'll take care of it. I think it's $500 for appeals. Loser pays, winner keeps their money.
Any team trying to hold a player will lose unless that player has a financial obligation to the club (money or a jumper) or they have signed a contract. You cannot stop a player from leaving unless one of the above reasons is applicable.
My info could be wrong, so to find an accurate response you should try the clearance secretary listed on the mcdfl website. They will give you all you need to know.

My word Sherman. Blokes are generally quite forthcoming with information when they are charged up.
Another interesting point of note that I have heard around the traps of late is that the league will be voting next meeting as to whether the Senior Games will be shortened. At the moment we play 25 minutes plus time on and they are looking at changing it to 20 plus time on to be in line with the AFL. I dont think its such a bad idea as some senior games seem to drag on forever.

Talbot had a couple of signings at training the other night. Coach Wills obviously finally got around to putting pen to paper and young Darren Hansen who spent a year playing 18s at Maryborough. Didn't get many opportunities in there and I reckon with some confidence will be a handy depth senior player and in years to come should go alright. Always good to get boys back that played juniors at the club.
A couple more signings have occurred but there is going to be a delay in submitting those for various reasons.

Princes Park is still in just average condition Jock so Maxy probably not too far off the mark. Needs a few more showers to get it into shape. That rain will help. About half the grounds in the MCDFL are good to go at this stage with most others tipped to be right come round 1 with bore water and hopefully a few more showers.

It will bore you more Thoroughbred when you are standing around on Saturday not being able to play football - or playing 20 minute halves so grounds can be shared. The water situation is the worst it has ever been and rain is the only saving grace.
It's all well and good to use recycled water, but when people put in greywater systems, tanks etc. It doesn't leave much to run back down the pipes and then onto the oval, hence Princes Park's average condition.
It's a big issue and warrants discussion in my opinion.
Rich/Sherman, How much longer will you blokes and Natte keep training together? Any further news on the recruiting front?

Yeah I think there will be one more night this Tuesday but then Talbot moves back to Tuesday and Thursday at Talbot so that will be the end of that. However it allows Ballarat guys an alternative run if they cant make it up and has been good to mix with another club I think. A very valuable exercise IMO.
Spoke to a Harcourt person in Bendigo this week and contrary to what was reported earlier in this thread, they believe that Michael? Blake will be staying at Harcourt. They were not aware of anyone leaving at this stage.
In responce to Thoroughbred etc, whilst Talbots oval is currently not yet playable it always comes up each year and we have a water supply which will be fully utilised about a month out before the season to get it right. I dont think MCDFL is in as much trouble as Bendigo etc to be honest.
