View Full Version : Englands injury problems
Are they going to have a decent side over here come Ashes time?
I've just heard that Jimmy Anderson has a stress fracture in his back,Simon Jones twinged his knee again Vaughn's knee causing problems and Trescothick struggling with his knee also.
What do we think about this?

Good, but I like simon jones so I hope he is ok.
it's all good hype. they'll have a touring squad of 16 or 17 raring to go.
australia has its own problems with trying to pick its best 11. if langer and mcgrath are right i say 8 spots in the team pick themselves. 2 batting spots and 1 bowling spot up for grabs.

Anderson's fracture is not thought to be bad and he should be back before the end of the summer unless further complications develop. Simon Jones' fitness does seem to be a constant worry but he doesn't have any recurring problems as such, he's just a niggle magnet.
Giles was thought to be in some trouble but I understand that his recovery was merely complicated by hernia problems and he may even be back for England's series against Pakistan. Vaughan is apparently also on course to make that series but we don't really know whether his long term fitness is in doubt with his dodgy knees.
Chris Tremlett is probably the most injury prone of all England players and he clearly has problems due to his great height. He'd be an assest on Australian pitches but I think he's the most likely to miss out on a touring spot.
Got all that?

I hope they're all fit. I don't want any excuses.

Ahh but...
and i dont care if its against englands injury riddled side, hell we lost the ashes 2-1 with an injury riddled side.
Therefore under the Bennycoff precedent we can claim to have an "injury riddled side" should we lose one player for two test matches.
The injuries may well be a blessing in disguise for them...Cook has already been exposed to Tests, as has Pansear....because some of their regulars are out, it gives them an opportunity to develop a squad that has some experience. Problem will come if they have a lot of success- who then gets picked to defend the Ashes?
Imagine if Australia had been forced to experiement because of injuries to Langerr, Lee, warne and Ponting- we would know a lot more about Jaques, Cossie, Cullen and others as Test players....
I'd say the quick bowlers will be the most fun to watch...with harmison, Jones, Anderson and Tremlett on the sidelines, you really will have a new look Pom attck- and they can't bring back Darren Gough- he's injured as well.
Andy caddick, anyone?

Sajid Mahmood's been called up, so I'd expect him to get the nod.

If Simon Jones isn't fit for the Ashes then England are stuffed.

Why? I thought Aussies claim the ball never reverses in Australia anyway

I'm glad you've noticed this.
I was a little worried about the standard of geography among Australians after bombersno1 objected to Andy Murray being described as "British".
