You'll be waiting a while, Spide! 'The Chair' won't be releasing their newie until late 2002. The Jebs should be out very soon, February or March from memory.
Cheers.

ah good ol Silverchair, the most pathetic band on the universe. Just about every female i know that likes them, doesnt like them cos of their music, they like them cos "daniel johns is sooooo hot". That says something about their fan base! My ex girlfriend was OBSESSED with them/him. And it was obsession, i wont let out some things she did, but god were they strange and well....sick!!
Neon Ballroom is one of the worst albums ive ever heard...but Frogstomp is ok (only just). Such a pity they had to change their style and sellout to the masses.

all the girls that i kno love Silverchair for their music despite wanting to bang Daniel Johns. Although at their concert with Everclear a few years ago there were a number of screaming teenies cryin over Daniel
As for Silverchair selling out i don't think so. They just keep getting better and adding new dimensions to their music which is more than i can say for some of those try hard metal bands who have sold themselves out so much that they would probably get a gig on TTFM by now i mean come on even video hits bl00dy play these softies clips and block out their swear words
Not to mention the fact that if u went up to someone wearing a Silverchair shirt and asked them to name the band members for example they would tell u like that then on the other hand go up to a little try hard skatie in a slipknot t-shirt and he probably wouldn't even be able to name one of their songs let alone the band members!

It really does depend where you go.
Im guessing you have 'Sanity' music stores in Perth. They are the worst. And the Muses. SHOCKING!!! Back in 2000 i asked someone at Sanity when they would be getting the new Marilyn Manson cd in...the reply "does he have a new cd coming out??"
Went to Verandah music (metal/alternative music store in adelaide...very small) and they told me straight away!
I went with a mate to Muses cos he wanted the Mudvayne cd, and the chick at the counter hadnt heard of the band and thought he made it up.....went to Verandah and theres a display of 25 of them!!!
I always find that the 'major' or 'popular' stores no sweet f*** all about the music scene, or only really know about pop music. Its always better to go to a smaller store or a store more into alternative music as they are bound to know.
Or you could check their website...or their record label website...im sure if they have a release date for the Jeb cd it will be there

Crap. The "metal" (use that term loosely) they play on video hits is crap. Stuff like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit etc are not what i call metal bands. THAT is the same stuff as Silverchair.....crap for the masses.
As for skaties not knowing slipknot songs or whatever. I strongly doubt anyone in the world who wears a tshirt of a band doesnt know any of their songs or band members. Why would they wear it?? For the 'image'?? pfffttt....thats what fubu is for.
As for the selling out comment. How come with Silverchair its "adding a new dimension and getting better and better" but when a metal band adds a new dimension they 'sellout and are softies'. What is the difference??
As for Video Hits....pffttt...who gives a stuff what Video Hits does. Bands dont ask for their videos to be played on certain programs. Its the program that decides what is played or in some cases (like video hits) the viewers. If the total population of 15 year old girls that have suddenly jumped on Limp Bizkits bandwagon (cos they are soooo cool cos they say f**k every second word) request a Limp Bizkit song...its hardly Limp Bizkits fault.
As for swearing. I thought youd be smart enough to realise Spidey that there are certain rules to follow when it comes to television. They have to block the swear words. Watch Rage at 3 in the morning and see the same videos with swearing. Some bands create video clips with the swearing blocked anyway.
If Video Hits played an uncut version of a song with loads of swearing in it they would get a truckload of complaints about it...not to mention a 'please explain' from the television authorities. Hardly a bands fault that television has certain rules and regulations to follow.

Sanity is HOPELESS!!!! They wouldnt know if their store was on fire. Youd think being a record store...and probably the biggest music store franchise in Australia that they would at least hire people with knowledge on music!

Might i also add that the majority of the time, the bands have no say in what singles they release...as you would know, only really the radio friendly songs get released on singles. On Slipknots new cd...they have one commercial sounding song (Left Behind) and the rest is nuts....if they had all songs sounding nuts, it wouldnt get played on radio, there would be no singles released off the album and they would have no exposure to the public. But often the bands have no say in what they release, thats usually the labels job. The label choose what songs should be released as singles.

I have heard it's due out around April, however the date seems to constantly change. Apparently Daniel wants to record another song for it, which may delay the release date even more. I love the first single, 'The Greatest View', and can't wait until I hear more from the album.
As for chicks only liking them because of Daniel, I can't speak for the population however in my case, that couldn't be further from the truth.

Actually, programs like Video Hits are usually "sponsored" by the record companies, so it's the record companies....and not the programmers per se.....that decide what gets shown on these shows.
I can't remember the name of the documentary, but it was about the music industry. One of their programs dealt with how MTV drives the popularity of bands....one example being Limp Bizkit. When the nu-metal thing came in, MTV arranged a Limp Bizkit gig and paid teenagers to attend and act as if they were having a great time. When Slipknot did their first tour for Australia, a reviewer in Beat magazine noted that for a band who took such an "anti-marketing/corporatisation" stance with their lyrics, it seemed a bit contradictory that they were doing a roaring trade in Slipknot masks/t-shirts/posters/tour momentoes etc.
To my mind, it doesn't matter if it's Slipknot or Backstreet Boys...there is always someone in the background guiding them and making money not just from the CD sales, but also t-shirts/posters/calenders etc. with the bands name/members on them. Even one of my favourites of 2001, the Strokes, are largely a marketing creation (or as someone put it, they spent a million dollars producing their album so it sounded as if it was recorded in a garage over a weekend or two).

I've never bought a CD from Sanity. The only franchise where I buy CDs from is JB Hi-Fi and only because they're so cheap there. Your best bet is to stick to the independents....in Melbourne, that's places like Missing Link, AuGoGo, Greville, Heartland, PolyEster, Sister Ray etc. You know that in these places, the people that work behind the counter love their music and will always happily recommend new music to you.

JB Hi-Fi is my choice for music, unless I get a voucher at Sanity.
If you want great metal gear Macca, when you're in Melbourne, I'll take ya to a shop called 'Metal Mayhem'. You'll love it. ;)

Check out Utopia in Sydney - best 'metal' store in Australia (even if they have let a little mainstream stuff infiltrate recently).
Is Metal Mayhem the shop down at Banana Alley? The last couple of times I went there, the place was half empty (as if they were either goining out of business, or restocking). Not a bad shop though.
Smoke Dreams also had some good stuff if I remember rightly.
There was another shop owned by Daniel Janecki (sp?)(who runs Modern Invasion record label). It was once called 'Extreme Aggression', but changed its name to something else. Does this ring any bells? I think it was near Missing Link records. Is that still there?

Metal Mayhem is on Flinders St, towards the Crown Casino end. It's in a little bay of shops, and seems to be doing well.
Smoke Dreams is an awesome little shop, picked up my Nirvana wall flag from there for 25 bucks. Lots of metal stuff, albums, shirts, parophanalia etc.
Must take you around the city when you get here Craig. Can't wait! ;)

I remember Extreme Aggression Records. It's no longer in Flinders Lane though. Not sure whether it's still around either under the E.A. name or something else.

It's a black background, with the Nirvana logo/name up the top, and the giant face with a tongue in yellow. :) Hangs proudly on my wall next to my bed.

Funny that someone calls Silverchair crap when they like s hit like Limp Bizkit and Korn. Kind of a contradiction i would think.
In my opinion Silverchair have come a long way. Certainly get more respect that the like of Korn who are so contrived its not funny. And Limp Bizkit well same sh it different a ss hole!

So true. My local Sanity store only seems interested in stuff like Michael Jackson, Oasis, etc. It's a bit of a shame, really.
