24/05/06 - Pro League at Paddo! - Monday night was an absolute blast! We had 93 (yes you read it right!) players total, and as far as we could tell, everyone had a great night out! Due to the numbers, we paid out Top 5 on the night! Congratulations to Mike Heath, taking out 5th place with $69.75, Tuan Tran 4th with $139.50, Brian Glossop in 3rd with $209.25, and our previous week's winner Ian Lattimore was just pipped at the post by Glenn Taylor for 1st place! Ian won $348.75 and Glenn took down the big prize of $627.75! Congratulations to everyone who played, and we look forward to seeing you at another Tournament soon!

i do, but not tonight, as i had to work due to the public holiday:mad:
its not on next monday, as the 1st aussie world cup game is on at the Paddo at 8:30
mondays will recommence on the following monday
Ah your a winner? Ive seen your name on the points tables. Yeah ive played two tourneys so far, both at the Paddo. First tourney I played I finished 14th and last week I finished 88th but got busted out on a bit of luck from the other guy.
I had AK, flopped 10, K, 2. Top pair with an A kicker so i bet about 400. He calls, fourth street comes out and another K. I have trip Kings with an A kicker. So I check him to set the trap. He bet's and I go right over the top of him for all my chips. There is no possible flush or straight on the board as its 10, K, K, 2 all different suits.
He calls me and turns over Q, J. I cant believe he would call me with that? No pair, a straight draw but only a 9 can help him cos I have the A so if an A comes out I make my boat. I raised before the flop, bet heavily after the flop then check and raised him on 4th street?? Yet he still calls me with nothing.
Then he hits the only card that can beat me... a 9. And im out. I was well annoyed!!!!
Anyways off to the Universal on Tuesday to exact some revenge.

i was the 6th knocked out last night! my housemate knocked me out (it was his 1st time at the WAPL) he ended up coming 10th.
i had Q2 of clubs. down to 1500 chips. flop comes QJ9. one club out there. so i have straight draw, flush draw and high pair. go all in, my housemate calls me with a pair of jacks. so i'm in front. on the turn, another J:eek:
oh well.... theres always next week.

I went down to the Universal Bar and played in my first WA Poker League tournament and in a first up effort am happy to say I walked away with 4th spot. I only made one bad judgement call all night.
I had pocket queens...versus ace king......versus ace queen.
Ace on the flop then couldn't find the case queen.:(
With regards to the poker league I have 2 gripes:
1) This thing about the chip race after the breaks is an absolute joke. There must be a better way of dealing with the situation of breaking up the small denominations. After the second break I had 9 $100 chips and lost the race and virtually $1k.
2) And probably of lesser importance is the fact that we have to take turns in dealing the cards. Poker is a game where some concentration is required in watching other people's body language and what they do and say. To be dealing the cards when the button comes around, I feel, doesn't allow you to keep an eye on what's going on.
Other than that I had a pretty good night. Finished 4th out of 46 people in a first up start is a pretty good effort I feel and I am looking forward to a few more nights out in the WA Poker League.:D
I had a bad week all up. Finished 51st at the Paddo and then busted out real early at the Universal. Ive been tearing it up online this week though, just cant seem to catch the cards when im playing against real ppl.
On your gripes monarch... I agree the chip race thing after breaks is absolute crap. I manage to even my chips out so I never lose too many but yeah it can be frustrating. On the dealer thing, they dont have enough staff to be dealing at 12 or so tables, then once a few guys bust out and tables are shuffled then the dealer isnt needed anymore. It would cost the WAPL too much to employ dealers etc... just isnt plausible.
Ill be back at the Paddo on monday.

111 turned up at the paddo tonight
i came 14th. was very happy with the way i played. no bad calls, no bad beats. i had pocket 4's with 20K left on 8K blinds. went all in and the guy i went against had pocket Q's. didnt hit the 4 i needed.
good points though, should keep me in the top 10:thumbsu:
I finished 48th at the Paddo last night. Had pocket rockets in one hand and managed to win quite a lot as A, Q, 2 came on the flop so i made my trips but I was cautious about the straight draw. Then another Q on 4th street made me my full house. I checked it to set the trap but he checked behind me. Ended up betting about 500 to see if i could get any more out of him but he folded.
Then I got a real bad beat when some guy had pocket cowboys to my AK. I never learn about playing Anna Kournikova. She looks great but never wins. Then I couldnt catch a hand and watched my stack get blinded out pretty much.
Frustrating game....
How long do they last, ill get down to one next week probably. WHich tournaments are better to play in, buy ins or free league, im assuming the buy-ins are smaller...
Do the top 10 pay off or only top 3??

Actually, the pro league has more people that play i believe
pay outs depend on how many people are in a tournament. the more players, the bigger the cash prozes and the more people get paid. if 120 people play (maximum) top 8 pays out.
Tournaments start at 7pm and 11:30 is about as late as it will go. the blinds go up very quickly.
Paddo events seem to consistently have more people (1st venue)
Finished 4th earlier tonight at the Paddo. Got major points and took home 120 bucks. Very happy with the way I played and I have moved back into the top 25 on the leaderboard.
Go me.

Nice work Jod,
i finished 16th and have moved back to 12th for the season.
Played some really tight poker and was very happy. Biggest bust for me was when i had 43K in chips, a guy goes all in for 20K, i'm holding Q10 off so i call, he turns over pocket K's, 1st card out is a K , turn and river, 2 Q's i have trips, but he has a full book. but that was the only real mistake i made all night. won my first 3 hands at the 1st table too. big pots too, i had 9K in chips at the 1st break :D

But alas, you have to get past me :D
And you might find that difficult.....:p (hopefully)
Haha ... we shall see. Ive been pretty good of late, fairly consistent. I just need to get lucky at the right time. The final tournament should be interesting. I think it will be tight early as it's not 30 dollars your losing anymore, it will be 100 and winning the tourney will be worth thousands!
Im nervous just thinking about it! :D It's weird though, when i was on final table a few weeks ago at the Paddo and there was a $900+ kitty for the win, I wasnt even thinking about the money. It only occured to me later how much money I could have won. I was only concerned with taking the title. I hope thats the mindset I have for the final tournament because playing for about 10,000 dollars or whatever will be pretty freaking nerve racking.
I just won my first online tournament too! $2.75 buy in and there were 48 players who entered. I took it down!! I won 36 bucks :D Go me!

I'm thinking 1st place will be around the 20K mark.... if its a $100 buy in. The top 24 will be getting paid out.
If you think about the money, you will freeze, and will make some not so good decisions. Just have to think of it as a bigger version of the Paddo :thumbsu:

Pokerchamps.
Won another tourney two nights after my maiden win. This time a $5.50 buy in with 14 players, winner took $40 bucks. I won. $76 bucks in two days in back to back tourney wins. Gonna play another buy in tourney soon see if I can make it a hattrick.

hmmmm would i be able to join this tournament at this late stage???
This is from the WA Poker League website.........I hope it answers your question :D
When : Saturday 2nd September, 2006. Registration for qualifiers 11:30am-12:30pm. It is very important to get registered before 12:30, as our timing for this event is critical. If you are late to register, you forfeit your seat, no buts. At 12:30, any seats not taken by qualifiers will be open to other members, starting from those closest to 240 ranking in Pro League.
Basically what it is saying that registration is open to the top 240 ranked players. If there are some spots available at 12:30 (ie: some of the top 240 ranked players haven't registered), then spots will be available from rank 241 onwards.

What time should we arrive to organise membership prior to the start of play, and how well is it run

Its not the best at organisational skills..... its ok, but rarely starts on time.... (although free league might be better, as there are less players)
Very quick blind levels make it hard to get into, rock up about 45 mins before the start should see you there in time to register
