grooming Mark Taylor to take over from Richie Benaud when Richie retires/dies?
He would have to be the most boring commentator on the 9 coverage; which is saying a lot when the likes of Ian Chappell are still around.
Tubbs has that sing song, say everything as if it is a question style. And he's always saying "Austraya"!!
Have you noticed he's got punters eyes? IE one each way?
Nah they should be grooming Heals to take over - he's a top commentator Heals...
Does anybody think tubbs is a good commentator?
And what makes you think Richie is "Entertaining" :D
That scrawny old wrinkle filled face, the cream jacket, the pink tie, the light blue shirt.....the slow old boring voice....
Richie...theres a thing called Retirement

Richie is the doyen of commentators, revered all around the world.
Although the older he gets the more he reminds me of Yoda, next season they should tweak his ears, give him a cane to rest his chin on and the likeness is complete.

Why Taylor...they neeed an ex aussie captain..Border????HughesKJ(????) cant talk, so he gets the job by default. Why does steve waugh keep playing...cos life in the commentary box is worse!!!!!

Dipper, I have no problem with Taylor. I think he would be a good anchor when Richie decides to hang them up.
I also like Healy but I think he just likes to disagree with what his co-commentors say half the time just to be different. Particularly Bill Lawry. Has anyone else noticed this?
David Hookes isn't a bad commentator. Did alright with the commentary in Fox Sports coverage of the Indian Tour. Hookes and Healy ***** me on Sports Today during the footy season though ... cos they both don't know what the f*ck they are talking about. And when it comes to footy .... Hooksey has zero credibility. At least he has some when it comes to cricket.
Tubs would be alright if he didn't speak at a million miles an hour. Heals is a bit too laid-back, and David Hookes is a pain to listen to. Hopefully Richie stays on for a bit longer while an adequate replacement can be found.

lol Tubby taking over.
Tony Greig, Bill Lawry and Ian Chappel will really love that! They have been there for around 20 years, and Tubby may get the job after around two seasons! :D

They need Rabs! Even though there are no Thorpes, Hacketts or Heugills in the Australian cricket team, he could do the job. Or just get Billy Birmingham to do all the commentating by himself.
Mark Taylor is the an absolute bore :o .At one stage Simon O'Donnell was being groomed as Richie's replacement. He'd be good.
Ian Healy is by far the best commentator on 9.

You are forgetting Hooksey was actually the Fitzroy runner for a couple of games during 1996 as he was a mate of Mick Nunan! Problem was he didn't know all the players so when he got asked to make a move he had to take the footy record onto the ground with him!!! :D
If you ask me the most logical replacement for Richie is not even on TV at the moment. I doubt the ABC would let it happen, but Tim Lane is a brilliant commentator who would fill the role perfectly.

Tim Lane is as bald as Tony Greig, Richie wouldn't allow it.

Ahh the good old Dream to wear the cream. :D Who will take over Richies top job? An insider in Bill, Tony or Chappelli or an outsider of Nine (Peter Robuck, Glenn Mitchell) or even worse an outsider of cricket (Mike Munro, Eddie Maguire)
JUB x2 mentioned Simon O'Donnell who I think would be an excellent replacement. But I'd like to see them break with tradition and go for a David Boon (they would need to have subtitles to translate what he says... or grunts)

Surely he'd be easier to understand than Tony Greig.

What about Darrel Eastlake, he'll be HUGE in his role in the commentary team
