yeah mate, gun player, i think he had a falling out with the club somehow, not sure of the details really, but i know he wanted to keep coaching. But older and retired players have come back such as Jason Langdon and Coutts, not sure whether Holroyd is back but i think he is.

Good to see the Otway Districts Demons getting a win on the board. Ian 'Hairy' Davidson in the best again! The return of favourite son Tom Sutherland really lifted the dees and they didn't let him down with a big win!:thumbsu:

16 May 2006, 13:47
RBDJAK best on in his first apperance for the dees. seecamp scoreless, quite suprising should be a big test this week to get win number 2 on the board against the imps then. But with tommy's big bonecrunching tackles anything is a chance, and with the awesome form of one pete derbyshire this season too continue another win could be on the cards for the mighty dees....
dal byars up forward could kick a bag this week with his fitness on the improve and those super duke extentions.:thumbsu:

Just wondering how are Forrest travelling this season?
Also, are their still McGuane's running around in the CDFL? There used to be a heap of them playing for Irrewillpe prior to their evolution as the Western Eagles? Some of them weren't too bad as footballers and they were good guys too.

the 12 goal win by the otways boys on the weekend was a good one. After losing the centre pivot david iainson in the 2nd qtr with a suspected broken ankle (it s broken) we struggled round the clearences, but luckly big dal fitness is paying off up forward kicking 4 for demons and big tom sutt pushing for that spot on the supp list was good again. and of course cant forget the awesome form of pete derbyshire down back quite inspiring.......
big game this week boys against the former captain get to training

once again this week the boys in the otway midifeld with their relentless pressure set up plenty of scoring opportunities for beckett and the forward line boys. big dall just gets out on the lead and gets the job done duke style.
seriously though otway simpson game on the weekend used a sherrin 'match' footy... worst football ever used in a senior match? would not spin right no matter how u hit it. absolute floating sob.

maybe the t-train should get the forwards working on extending the jukes then turtle?, conggrat's the otways boys again on another stella performance. if i was the t-train i would be worried fleet footed byars taking his spot on the sup list. with derbs staring down back and the form of byars and tommy the boys seem unstopable, go otways!!!!

season defining game on the cards this week between otway and alvie. no love lost between the two sides with a fiery display last year resulting in a 20 match suspension being dealt out, and owtay's coach and captain from last year now in swans colours. the otway boys have been on a roll and will be looking to continue this form to set up a push for finals in the second half of the year.
predictions for round 11:
South Colac v FORREST
Apollo Bay v IRREWARRA-BEEAC
OTWAY DISTRICTS v Alvie
WESTERN EAGLES v Simpson
COLAC IMPERIALS v Birregurra
Bye - Lorne

Anyway besides all the other crap that is being said here.
Halfway through the season, might be a time for a bit of a review?!
I welcome comments...
(As the Ladder Sits)
Lorne - Have not lost game! Really the surprise team of the season, have a great mix of players, don't really seem to base their game around anyone, all of them seem to be prepared to run hard and push for each other.. Their younger players seem to have all stepped up from the U/17 GF side last year.
Irrewarra\Beeac - Their heavy recruitment of players seems to have paid off. They have quality forward options and the best ruckman in the league by a mile to give their on-ballers first use. They are a skillful side and will be there at the end of Sept.
Forrest- Still rate these guys highly.. Probably should be the most physical side in the comp, looking forward to their match against Lorne again, just think a experienced physical side could beat Lorne. They have good key position players, pity none of them come from Forrest, but that just seems the trend of today's country footy.
Imperials- Beck and Hall have been prized recruits this season, I know Hall has kicked some bags, but not sure of his form against the better sides. They have had a lot of injuries this year that I know of. Have a really good group of players to build a successful side with, need to take the next step..but in saying this the top 5 sides bar Lorne are seperated by 2 games.
Apollo Bay- Injuries seem to have hurt the Bayers worse than anyone else, after having Liam, Luke & Rhani Buchannan in the same side as Seecamp, they were favourites for the flag surely, but injuries to key players such as Holt, Liam B and Perma seemed to have hurt them badly. But any team with Tate up forward just has to give it to him and they would be a chance for sure.
Alvie- Was on the fringe at the start of the year, but recruited a few handy players, certainly no lack of talls, with a good supply of ruckman, which will prove handy later in the season. Kelly is unstoppable when the ball is given to him right, fast, strong, agile and a great kick for goal, his handball must be no good, never saw it :D .They have great kids who run the ball so well, they kick to space and rarely clog up their forward line, their half backs are great rebounders.
Otway- Mixed season. Play goodfootball for 2 or 3 quarters and then go missing. Have lost over a doezen quality senior players from last years side. The side is very inexperienced and relies heavily on half a dozen players each week, the side is definitely improving each week as the younger kids gain confidence which is really good to see. Beckett is a class above the rest.Has rough draw.
Birregurra- The Saints are travelling as expected probably, they have a few key players who are very good players, but when they are down or not on the park it makes it very difficult. A resilent young side, which seems to give it their all regardless of the scoreboard.
Simpson- Simliar to Otway, have lost a of players, and quality ones too. They are a proud club which is also evident in their games, lack options up forward when Fleming is down too. Shawcross in the ruck will go all day and provide a contest around the game.
South Colac- Are a extremely young side, had a upset win against Otway early on in the year. Jenkins and McNamara are solid in the middle and is where ever he plays. Will be looking to build towards next year with a developing list if they can keep it
Western Eagles- Eagles try hard, but they lack in every department. Batters is a great ruckman, but needs a rest everynow and then. They very limited options, very young side also. Will be a good club in coming years.

not a bad review tomsut, i think that all rang true in the weekends matches, with appollo bay again showing their frailties through injury and otway putting in 3 quarters against irrewarra/beeac.

Does anybody besides Otway boys post on this thread? Not having a dig, just wondering what's going on at other clubs.:thumbsu:
I'm with you talent scout. I'm actually looking at moving to the area before christmas and check out this thread to see what happens footy wise, sort of keeping my eye out for a club but I don't know anything about any club other than Otways. Got a mate that lives in the area and I will probably play wherever he plays but still I might not. Is there many employment opportunities down that way?

well mate, there is bulla dairy foods, two massive plants that do all the ice creams and yoghurts, 4 or 5 timber mills, an abbattiors that employs heaps, heaps of builders, don't really know what field your looking for..

Yes pretty good review Tom. Agree that the best way to beat Lorne is to play a physical brand of footy and Forrest have the guys to do that so that will be an interesting match coming up.

Yeah beck gets a lot of it, don't think Hall has hit his straps yet.. As mates from GFL have rated him a lot higher than what I saw.. but must remember he is getting older I spose.. They will go ok, not sure if they will go to the last game, they haven't played finals in about 3 years i think.

Well you might say that, but they were lucky to be there also last year, mcvilly is probably not on the track enough to have a major influence in a season. He did take a couple good guys with him, Scott Mills goes ok too.
They lost of lot of players too, I think the management of the club and mcvilly had differences too

It was in the papers that there was a disagreement, so that is why he went to Imps. Brian Sweeney i think is coaching this year
