hey just wondering if Black is carrying injuries? He seemed to have a good Pre Season but looks somewhat out of touch at times (all players do i agree - im not having a dig - just wondering what the deal is) ...
i persoanlly am a big fan of Black, and was hoping to see him bounce back after a poor yr due to under-preparation prior to the season and injuries during the season didnt help either.
cheers - Go Cats (Lion is a form of Cat so hopefully u's get a few wins also ;) )

Yeah I'm a big fan of Black, goes about his business with minimal of fuss. He seems to be out of sorts this year, even in the games where he's collected plenty of possies he also had plenty of clangers.
Not aware of any injury problems that may be contributing to his form.

He picked up something against St Kilda. An ankle or a corky, can't remember.
I think Black's going pretty well. He's getting plenty of the ball. It just seems there is a lack of synchronisation with the forwards, which makes him look like he's missing targets.
People are talking about Black as if his best is beyond him. I don't agree with this. When he gets a bit more help in the midfield and develops an understanding with the forwards, he will look a lot better.
Just my opinion.

completely agree with Grim. Blacky cannot be at his best when his deliveries are not being picked up. There is a discssion about this somewhere else in another thread, if I come across it again I'll pop the link in here.

Disposal by foot has never been outstanding. When you think about Blacky, you don't think about him hitting leading forwards on the chest, lace out. You think about him extracting the ball and giving it to the blokes who do that - Lappin, Aker etc.

i disagree. Blacky has always been an ordinary (at best) shot for goal from a set shot, just like Lappin. They dont kick straight, they run in a loop and do the hook motion (if you know what i mean).
But on the pass, Blacky is as lace-out and precise as Johnno IMO. Blacky has been down on influence this and last years i thought, but was doing fine before he did his ankle in the St. Kilda game early this year.
In a time of need we REALLY have to get him up and fully fit, he's just so crucial to our clearances and having him delivering into the fwd line rather than one of the younger guys every time, just triples the way the team looks from a disposal and delivery point of view.
Having said all that, i agree he is generally the in and under type that handballs it out to the likes of Lappin, i just don't see his in-general-play kicking as any deficiency.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one Konstas. I am not saying that disposal by foot is a weakness for Blacky, just that it is not outstanding. Don't have any stats to back it up but as far as accurate foot disposal goes
(at least during the glory years), I would have put him behind Akermanis, Lappin, Johnson, Power, Ashcroft and maybe Vossy. Again, this is just a perception and might not be backed up by stats.

I agree with Konsta's here. Black in the years when the team was doing well was the best kick on the run to a leading player. You probably seem to think that he hasnt been delivering the ball as wel this year because he has used he right foot( he is left footed) more times than his left. Also, the forwards havent gelled with the midfielders yet too.
Yeah he did do his ankle back when playing the sainters. Very early on.

I have been keeping a close eye on Black and I think both Konstas and POBT are right. Black is the most beautiful kick when he gets it right, but he did have a few clangers as well.

Haha after i went in to bat for Blacky in this thread, he came out in the first quarter and a half against the Hawks, got lots of the footy and missed lots of targets :D having said that he did greatly improve after that and was great for us tonight, working brilliantly with big Charmo at the stoppages.
