Interesting comments about the season so far and what might come of it. As usual with Sheedy a few mixed messages:

"I know footy is a week to week, must win situation. But I have seen clubs win week to week for 30 years and win no premierships.

And while Sheedy is philosophical of where his team is at, he believes the Bombers of 2006 shouldn’t be written off just yet. While they are only two games out of the top eight, the coach believes they can turn their season around and still make the finals.

Typical kev just covering all bases like most good politicians do. Predicting tough times yet selling hope.

I know we are an average side and i would hope must bomber fans know this. We will cop a few more kicks to the guts before we make our climb up the ladder but there is enough there to suggest we won't be out of it for too long.

This week's comments:

"Don't miss Telstra Dome on Sunday. Don't miss it."

Hmm, whats the old man up to...?

Heard sheeds on SEN and then saw his comments on ch 10. As usual, positive, chirpy with a few change-ups to keep everyone guessing. He even burst into song when describing the west coast cave men. He makes me laugh. What a legend. I will admit that i am an unadulterated sheedy lover. He has been coach of essendon for nearly my whole life. I can't quite imagine essendon post the great man. It irks me a little when essendon supporters come out crying for his blood. Go and barrack for Richmond you :D:D:D:Ders!

Sheeds reminds me why i love footy. Especially at times such as these when it is easy to get irrationally emotional and far too serious. Footy is a game, and as such, is there for us to 'enjoy'.

sheedy is an entertainer for sure... remember the kind guesture he dealt out to the eagles at the dome in 00 RE:long knock.. ah it made me a proud essendon supporter all warm and fuzzy inside.. maybe thats why hes saying a game not to miss... is he going to kill all the eagle players????

That was Mark Johnson that was meant to get hit, not Long.

Long was hit, by Braun from memory. But that was at Subi.

If your talking about the Sheedy throat slit thing, then yes it was at the Dome. But the player Sheedy thought was hit (he wasn't) was Mark Johnson.

I'm almost certain Long was hit at Subi, just on the edge of the square.

mate lets not forget that he is our coach, whoin the last few yrs gets out smarted in the coaching box each week, playes players out of position, a very dated & predictible game plan that he has used for the past 5 yrs, & he a man who puts hs ego first before the club, speaks crap through out the week, & almost forgets that he has a gamer to prepare for!

all these posts bagging Sheeds for not being to change with the times...

I don't know if any watched, but Sheeds adapted pretty well to the whole international game - in fact didn't he select and coach the most successful Australian side...?

I'm not sure if that shows that he is very dated and predictable.... I would have thought that shows that he is very adaptable... Which is also probably proven by the fact that he has been able to win a premiership every 7 or so years... If could adapt to the changes in the game from 85 to 93 and from 93 to 2000, why wouldn't he be able to adapt to the changes from 2000 to 2006 - or was footy stagnant for 20 years only to change in the last 6...?

I'm more concenrned with these comments:-

"Its sort of like the flinstones, they're coming to town. All those big cavemen from over the west. I don't know where they hid big Cox, he must have been in a mine over there."

If you listen to the Press conference, Sheeds was in full swing..

"They'd have to get a plane specially made for the team. - They'd walk out domp de de domp de de (some crapie tune)"

He also mentioned that he's taking note of all the media that are bagging Essendon and is putting them on a boat - the boat from One flew over the Cuckoos Nest, the boat that Jack took them out on....

If nothing else, his press conferences must be a lot more enjoyable then say Micks...

What's our game plan?

Our game is much the same as every other team in the league- unappealing. Sheedy needs to justify his longer term tenure at the club by producing sparks when the chips are down. He can start this week with the Eagles. If the side is not competitive from now on, he should ease himself out of the club by the end of the year and and let O'Donnell take over the reigns. Round 21 at the Dome in 2000 is food for thought.
